Video: Race Highlights from Peaty's Steel City Downhill

by Mat Massini

Peaty's Steel City Downhill is Sheffield's premier race - and the biggest little race in the world. With a morning of practice under their belts on the brand new track riders were raring to go and left nothing out on the course. The blisteringly fast race track and rare UK dusty conditions lead to incredibly tight racing - here are all the race run highights.

It's the sub tropical paradise of Sheffield, never a cloud in the sky

@mark31taylor: this is sub tropical Queensland calling...can we have our weather back!

I believe it is near Grenoside in Sheffield. As shit as any place you'll find in the UK. The video in the woods makes it look a lot nicer than it is.

Yes it's near Greno, but really there are much much worse places in the UK. Given you can ride across the road and hit dozens of rider built masterpieces of trails that range between black and treble obsidian diamond, it seems pretty damn attractive to me...

@G-Sport: You can - except you'll be lucky to own any bike longer than five minutes before it gets nicked by some pondlife bottom feeder.
Like most UK cities, Sheffield has a fantastic collection of rent seeking plebs.

@JiminOz: Eh? Have you been bitten by something poisonous or something? Spent hours and hours in Greno and Wharny and never even had a sniff of trouble.

@G-Sport: Poor old Jimin must have had a bad time on his gap year, probably didn’t like the brutal honesty of Sheffield folk telling him he’s a cu*t! Either that or he just bitter that every trail he builds in the forest gets burnt down every summer

@Maccadownhills: and yes, some great trails near me were in the oath of a bushfire two years ago - they've since been rebuilt and better than ever. Unlike the slop I rode in the UK for 15 years, we get to ride in great conditions for most of the year (a bit too hot on summer). You can also leave your bike on the back of your car while you have a beer after - and it's still there when you come to go home again.

Completely wrong. I am originally from the UK in another shit hole City not far from Sheffield. I lived there until I was 40. My sister in law lived in Grenoside. It's a shit hole populated by plebs.
Easy for people to comment when they have no knowledge of these places.

Most UK cities built on industry and manufacturing in the 1800s are now partly occupied by familes that haven't worked in three generations and live off social handouts and petty crime.

Everything you own of value has to be bolted down and locked up/alarmed to the hilt or it gets stolen.

Go live there for 12 months and then tell me different.
