Video: Remy Metailler & Christina Chappetta Hit Classic Squamish Gaps

Mar 29, 2021
by Rémy Métailler

Christina Chappetta has been sending some big jumps lately, including the famous Poacher road gap, that Miranda Miller and a few other shredders went and did. It's been awesome to see her and so many others progressing, but she had a few more jumps she wanted to check out.

We met in Squamish to study and ride some classics jumps, including the famous Grin And Holler.

Going forward, I will not say so-and-so has big balls to denote courage. I will hereafter say, "damn, they gots some ovaries"

@Clavdivs: I see your point. I'd personally avoid both

@Clavdivs: “Damn, they gots some gonads”. Works for all types.

As of now Christina has just as much or more shred cred then the other pb staffers in my eye. Pinned!

Can we get the usernames of the 3 POS who downvoted this? That really bothers me. She is progressing and kicking ass exactly as all women should. I'm pretty sure we're on the same rider level. Double high-five (high-ten) (jumping?) to you Christina!

@kungfupanda: May have been accidentals. Non reversible so I’m told.

 Totally incredible rider!

Alright, I can't take anymore of these rad Squamish edits... Open the boarder so I can haul ass up to Squamish and shred these trails.

As soon as our country stops sucking so hard at vaccinations we'll let you in.
  • 190 0
@chwk: that's where you're going wrong - they are meant to be injected
  • 4 0
@Molesdigmyjumps: hehe, just like suppositories, also not meant for sucking Smile

Every time I see a new video I'm blown away that these type of trails exist in the wild.

@chwk: US is good at vaccines. Why can't we come if we have ours?
  • 14 13
@chwk: the boarder is closed because your southern neighboars are hording vaccine stocks.
  • 8 4
@mi-bike: We have manufacturing capacity. Canada made a decision decades ago to not maintain vaccine manufacturing. theconversation.com/the-roots-of-canadas-covid-19-vaccine-shortage-go-back-decades-154792
  • 4 0
@HB208: There must be a misunderstanding. I was making light of OP's typo, not Canada's lack of manufacturing capacity or the US' surplus thereof.
  • 19 0
@mi-bike: Canada is like 43rd (last I checked) in the world as far as vaccination rates go. Our government royally screwed up in procurement and manufacturing ability. The US can hoard them for themselves if they want. They have the factories/investment to make them so I don't blame them for wanting to get their citizens vaccinated first before exporting to others.

 @mi-bike: Oh, makes sense, sorry.

One thing that is important to note is that Biden's political future relies on fixing Trump's issues, one of which was COVID. It is not surprising that he is going to make such a huge push for the US to get vaccinated before sending them to other countries. The US is nearly at a point where there will be open vaccines and it is already happening in some states. My guess is that within 3 months, we will start heavily exporting vaccines.

 @Lukefuelex: Go away.

@HB208: I’m all for the vaccine jest making a joke about those that are scared of a little shot

I waited tooo long to visit Sqaumish and area , and am jonesing to get back all the time.
  • 1 0
@chwk: Didn't US already start sending the AZ vaccines to Canada and Mexico?
  • 7 0
@Lukefuelex: Lol, ok, it's hard to tell these days.

If it is any help, I have my first Pfizer vaccine and it was less painful than a flu shot (both the actual shot and the size effects). The 2nd shot put my wife down for a day, so we will see what it does to me.
  • 1 1
@withdignityifnotalacrity: Yes, because it isn't approved here. I think the US did hold back quite a few vaccines though.
  • 3 1
@HB208: right, just saying we've already started sharing with our homies. Hopefully more of that to come, really hard to politically bare the cost of sending vaccines abroad, while the locals population is still having a hard time scheduling appointments.

@chwk: I'm double jabbed, how do I get a coaching day with this legend?
  • 2 0
@withdignityifnotalacrity: I got you. I am really hopeful that we will start sending more abroad soon. A lot of countries need help. We are really getting efficient at producing vaccines, so hopefully that pays dividends later.

Open the border so I can go up and ride something much easier!!

@chriskneeland: Nothing to see there. Those trails are hollywood fakes like the moon landing lol. Remy and Christina were using green screens

@chwk: Hold my beer while I check SAs immunization stats...

I love these kinda videos and btw mad props to Christina who was sending it deeeeep! Sick sick sick.

Remy is the hardest working cat in mountain bike, the guy is everywhere!!
  • 20 0
This is how it's done. Don't "just send it". Loved listening to the breakdown and approaches to each jump...lots of factors involved.
  • 16 0
Really great point about popping using a bunny hop technique rather than yanking off of clips for certain features. This is something that I have seen a lot of friends do that switched to clips soon after starting mountain biking. Remy highlighted perfectly the advantage of using a bunny hop technique to jump by the control it gives you to push your bike into the landing when you want to at the right angle. Also amazing job sending those jumps Christina!

This reminds me so much of how I progressed as a kid and progress now. My bff growing up and still my main guy today is waaaay better than me, so we were always scouting lines and he was always sending them first and leading me in/getting me ready and helping me push the envelope. I really enjoyed the long format of this vid and the reality of what it's like out on the trail on those kinda days...which is also the most fun imo / most fun days I've ever had, going out and just chilling in the woods, sessioning features and gauging your confidence and skills. Best days ever, thanks for the edit!

Such a badass Christina! Thought this edit turned out great and fun for everyone. My 11 year daughter loved seeing this and is excited to get out and ride. Nice work Remy and Christina!

  • 10 0
Way to go Christina, i haven't hit those yet but have seen them and they are huge
  • 7 0
Part 2 please. Great video. Remy always appears cool and collected. His comment about teaching and over analysing, so he had to just go and hit the jumps is so valuable. It shows that even on things that are so far within his comfort zone, if he looks at them too much, breaks them down to every detail, risk, speed etc. then he gets his head a little messed up so he just went and hit them. Know your limits but know your skills, confidence in your abilities is so important.
