Video: Remy Metailler Follows Matt Bolton Down his Wild New Trail

Oct 28, 2021
by Rémy Métailler

Matt Bolton is known to be building crazy trails and features around Squamish. This build is no different! A short but super intense trail. Useless to mention that the step down in the middle gave me some trouble!

That lighting was unreal during the full run through. Beautiful footage; sick line.

It was sunny all day and the fog rolled in just before we did the top to bottom, perfect timing!

Looks like a great trail, I often wonder after all that work how many people can actually ride it?

Thanks for checking out the video! I enjoy building trails that push my limits for both digging and riding. There are a ton of great trails riders can practice and work their way up before riding something like this.

@mattboltz: That was sooo sick. The article showing each feature had me curious as to what it looked like linking everything together. Was that the first time riding it from top to bottom without stopping? Checking out the stepdown really shows how monstrous that tree is. Unreal.

@powderhoundbrr There definitely should be trails out there for all skill levels, from beginner riders, to guys like Remy and Matt.

The problem is that when someone is passionate enough about the sport to build trail, they're likely already riding at a high level and they'll want to build something they want to ride.

And I can't fault those folks for this; when you spend hundreds of hours building for free, it sure as hell better be something you'll get enjoyment out of.

Here in BC, most trail building is volunteer, and I speculate that our trails on average are on the more difficult end of the spectrum because of this.

@scott-townes: yes the top to bottom run was our first attempt at linking it all together, worked so well!

This is so rad! Also, the lighting for the full pull was both amazing, and had to have been brutal for the riders. Gotta love the PNW rainforest magic!

Amazing! I’ve never been to BC to do any riding, but the way this trail in that forest looks is what I imagine it might be like. In my wildest dreams anyway. What a beautiful beautiful place! Absolute money of a line too!

That log stepdown is a beautiful way of encapsulating old and new!

Not sure about this technique of measuring drops from waist height though?

So Remy is not clipped anymore?
  • 14 2
I was clipped in. I just unclipped with the force of the impact. You can see my right shoulder (that I injured years ago) gave up on the flat landing and I twisted my body which caused me to unclip. Also my pedals were not super tight that day.
