Video: Remy Metailler Rides Exposed Alpine Trails at Kicking Horse

Aug 5, 2021
by Rémy Métailler

From the top of the resort in Kicking Horse, and after a 30min hike a bike starts an epic descent all the way down to the town in the valley. From a difficult double black trail to a super fun black and then a very fast blue trail with incredible 360 views we were not disappointed, that's for sure.

So lucking you got to do this epic trail before the smoke rolled in. Great Vid.. Awesome to see you outside the Whistler area doing what you do.

I’m glad someone finally expressed their fear of bears while riding. Being alone in the remote woods is a weird experience. Adding bears on top of that really shakes things up mentally.

Growing up in WA it never really crossed my mind to ever consider bears. I'd only seen way out in the giff on dirtbikes, much further removed than anywhere I'd be able to get on a pedal bike. Spent a summer in Anchorage and riding my bike every day after work and weekends in some more remote spots took an incredible toll on my nerves. Feels like a considerable portion of your concentration is spent worrying about bears of calving moose around the next blind corner. It didn't ruin riding but honestly I think it took some of the fun away.

@nskerb: the moose!!! They are the scary ones for me in eastern WA.

@Beaconbike: For real! I had one charge me in alaska. I saw a shit load at silver when I rode there a lot going to school at WSU but they usually just spooked and ran away.

So cool to watch these insanely talented riders ride my local trails...impressive speed! Makes me realize how slow I am . Not as impressed with their lack of preparedness...that trail is pretty remote and a rescue could take some time...as mountain bikers transition from trails low in the valley near roads to remote alpine rides we need to consider packing a few more items to give us a greater margin of safety...unless Remy was packing all the extras...

I've had a trip planned for two years now that starts at Calgary airport, hits Banff, Golden (Kicking Horse), Invermere, Cranbrook, and finally Fernie before taking back off from Calgary towards home. Pandemic killed my chance in 2020. Pandemic pricing in Whistler was too tempting to pass up in 2021. But 2022 is the year I will finally ride Kicking Horse and this video is exactly why.

If you get all the way to Golden, you have to keep going to hit Revelstoke before heading back south. Between the natural trails and lift access/bike park, promise you won't be disappointed.

@Basketcase889: Don't worry, I've got it on my hit list for a separate trip, maybe 2023. The most I can do at a time is a week, so getting everything in one trip would just be too hectic.

Rode this trail combo a few years back, it's absolutely epic. I was more worried about the trail killing me than a grizzly, especially the top section, it's super janky.

seems like a great trail to do with a few friends that ride out of bounds and come prepared. higher pucker factor for sure at the top...a bucket list candidate.

Feature request: Can Pinkbike add the possibility to filter out features by tags, like with e-bikes, races, etc?
