Video: Remy Metailler Shreds Rocky Whistler Trails

Jun 17, 2021
by Rémy Métailler

Whistler is known for the flowy and fast bike park trails such as Aline, Dirt Merchant but the valley has some of the best Mountain Biking trails in the world. The Thing is one of them.

Recently built by Ken Melamed, The Thing is an awesome trail that connects some slabs by some man-made rock puzzles in order to create some flow in the no-flow zone. There is almost no dirt and it's a pretty unique experience.

amazing control on those rocks...that opening 2 minutes was fantastic. ....still at work so I don't have time for the remaining 8+ minutes Razz

On a side note, loving the videos with no music or added effects...sound of tires on dirt/rock is all we need

Fun facts. Ken Melamed was a Stonemason and ski patroller, then the Mayor of Whistler and also active in Canada's Green Party. He is also a heck of a trail builder.

Half shell helmet, no pads. It's only a trail ride anyway....

Sort of funny when you realize there was a second camera guy filming the first camera filming Remy

See the authentic product integration... I'm no less frustrated with Camelbak than when I worked there. I like Remy, I think his content has evolved and it's rad that he uses the Chase Vest (@shepridesbikes - it's super stable). What gets me is CamelBak doesn't tell real stories about hydration... It's the one thing they can own in this space, especially when as mountain biking evolved. They created the category even if times were different back then. When you ride park you dehydrate, when you ride enduro you dehydrate, when you ride an epic day ride you dehydrate, etc, etc. Women, men, children... every damn one of us, in every place we ride. Most of us don't actually know when our performance is actually impacted (which is 100% is). You can still make a shredit with a little useful info... Rant over!!! #drinkwater

It was a joke. A lot of pinkers dislike packs for some reason. I personally ride with one.

@shepridesbikes: just switched to bottles after being a camelbak user for decades. Love the lower center of gravity the bottles provide and I have better body temp control now (I ride in texas). The OneUp integrated pump and tool set allowed me to make the switch, now that I no longer need to carry the tools in my pack.

 This is inspiring. Nice stuff.

Hahaha. Left our sandwiches in the car! No worries man. Water is more important which is why you have a camelback.

But can he shred small or even medium sized features? Doesn't seem like it.
