bigquotesDon't think that because I'm on a unicycle this is going to be riding down Bell Rock Pathway... No - this is some of Sedona's hardest lines. Hangover, Hiline, and perhaps lines you've never seen done.Erick Gonzalez

Sedona. There's so many reasons we all love this place, from the endless opportunities to shred to the magic of life that speaks directly from the towering red earth. While I am also a mountain biker and know the joys of freewheels, In this video I want to show you both shredding to make any enduro rider lean forward in their seat, as well as all of the magic that I've found here - on one wheel.

Now, don't think that because I'm on a unicycle this is going to be riding down Bell Rock Pathway... No - this is some of Sedona's hardest lines. Hangover, Hiline, and perhaps lines you've never seen done.

Whether on a unicycle or mountain bike, this video speaks to the absolute joy of riding down the gnarliest things we can find, our capacity to ride as an expression of something consciously chosen, and our capacity to connect with the land that we ride on.

To be honest, this film is a work of the heart, and while the film will speak for itself, here is my introduction.

This is going to blow your mind.

My goal is that when you finish watching this video, you will pick up the pieces of yourself that shattered to the ground, put yourself back together, and feel different.

Different about your capacity to be and move in life, better aware of the possibilities of the magic that is here for us, better aware of the limitless possibilities of motion and all things, and better aware of your relationship to the earth and land you are made from.

This is my offering to you. From my heart and this earthly body I am in which loves to move.

I am honored

And present to you,

MITAKUYE OYASIN - Mountain Unicycling in Sedona - The Possibilities of Motion

Get your headphones, your big screen, or your presence. And get ready to watch riding on this red rock that will inspire you to push your own possibilities.

So keep shredding, keep progressing, finding new places to ride, expanding your possibilities of motion, and enjoy this film I had the pleasure to create and share with you.

My name is Erick Gonzalez. I live in Flagstaff, and ride in Sedona. While I'm a mountain biker, I'm even better on a mountain unicycle, pushing the limits of what has been done. If you want to keep up with this type of riding, get to know me, and see more, here's my social media.

Thank you Remy! Ran into you at the Sedona MTB festival but was too starstruck to say much haha

 Must have a uniBMX background...

Bi.cy.cle noun a vehicle composed of two wheels held in a frame one behind the other, propelled by pedals and steered with handlebars attached to the front wheel. I'm offended that Pinkbike is trying to stuff unicycles down my throat. They don't even have a filter like they do for e-bikes. Save this propaganda for pinkunicycle.com!

title of the site is pinkbike, not pinkbicycle

you must be fun at parties.

@adrennan: *scratches head. Well, my sarcasm is certainly easier to read at parties. Oh well, back to lurking.
  • 7 0
haha, I'm glad it got sorted that this was sarcasm Smile To be honest I would've gotten a laugh out if it either way Big Grin Thanks for commenting!

Big unicycle is really getting out of control.
  • 1 1
 Stop trying pinkbike

@Dixonm: At least it’s an analog unicycle.
  • 2 1
@hamncheez: the prefix bi- in both bike and bicycle means two.
  • 1 0
@Stihlgoin: pretty sure I would be deathly afraid of an E-unicycle.
  • 1 0
@Dixonm: I can see it happening with a 36” uni and freewheel hub. It may be a thang already…. I don’t really follow these contraptions unless Pat Smage is fooling around on his in a video.

this whole thing is awesome, but "the trees step back and let the earth speak" is a truely beautiful line that describes the desert in such a simple and effective way.
  • 7 0
Thank you for noticing and appreciating that! The desert is so special Smile

Struggled a while to get over those shredding 8 year olds. Still receiving counseling because of 73 year old north shore Betty. Sadly this video is the final blow. Farewell pinkbike!

 Don't leave us! Smile

Should we talk about seat tube angles now?
  • 8 0
 infinitely adjustable seat tube angle
  • 8 0
wheelbase could be more aggressive tbh
  • 2 0
@bkm303: longer wheelbase would definitely be nice for steep rolls haha but as it is I love how it lets me land on precarious rocks Smile
  • 2 0
 Needs high-pivot stat
  • 2 0
@threesixtykickflip: nah. Those concentric with the axle designs are where it's at. Just ask DW or Trek.

Erick you are amazing! And the things you can ride on one wheel blow my mind! Thank you for always sharing such good energy. Every-time I watch this video is amazes me! We are truly capable of so much and thank you for that reminder!

Thank you Joanna! The possibilities are immense Smile Grateful to be in good company and love all the shots you helped me film in this!

To add to the collection of bikes, I purchased a unicycle during the depths of the pandemic. I still have not yet learned how to ride that dang thing (even on flat concrete). So this video is amazing!! On a side note, I also purchased a Yuba cargo bike and really love that bike (my second favorite next to my Yeti).

Last summer, I noticed a unicycle rider on the top of Tahoe Mountain in South Lake Tahoe. I had just finished riding up and was pretty beat. To watch someone accomplish the same task on unicycle was pretty impressive.
  • 3 0
Thank you! It's hard to learn haha. And there's a good crew of mountain unicyclists in Tahoe! Gorgeous out there.
  • 5 0
wow incredible riding. I haven’t seen someone do a 360 on a unicycle ever! And equally incredible words. This guy is next level.
  • 2 0
Thank you! It's an honor to share my words and riding Smile

 Yes! More mountain unicycle content!
  • 1 0
 Love it!

When will the Eunicycles be available?
  • 1 0
 hehe
  • 1 0
Yep, unicycling is really impressive to watch. Our youngest son got into it for about 18 months. We went mtbing at Falls Creek in Australia, and there's some very rocky and steep trails there. Anyway, of course he bought his unicycle and pretty much rode every track there on it. He was 14. And l can't remember if he actually had his 24" mtunicycle or just his 20" street. Thing is, they'll go just about anywhere. It was a shame he stopped.

I both appreciate it, and cringe in that anytime I see anyone on a Uni I think of clowns.

A famous youtuber made a great video about this sport: www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ad_YdOCLOH8 - so good to watch!
  • 1 0
 So well made!
  • 1 0
@erickgonzalez: Jimmy makes a ton of great videos. Been following his channel for a while now.

When I was a kid I got a signed jersey from Norco unicyclist Kris Holm. That guy was so inspiring back in the day
  • 3 0
 Unicycle field test please!
  • 1 0
 I'd be down!
  • 1 0
Lol. I will lend a circa 2010 Kris Holm 24" to this effort!
  • 1 0
Could a hammerschimdt hub mounted, or a 2-3 speed kindernay be practical on a unicycle? (assuming you disable the freewheel functionality so you can backpedal)
  • 3 0
Schlumpf makes a 2 speed internally geared hub for unicycling. You switch gears by a tapping a 'button' with your heels as you pedal
  • 1 0
@Xyphota: Ok now about an e-uni? Hub motor with battery integrated into the saddle.
  • 1 0
So much skill, but the need to constantly have one hand jammed into your crotch is super awkward. Maybe if there was something down there to strap it to ...
  • 3 0
Haha, there's a small handle bar down there with the brake lever attached! I keep it super close because I like the control Razz
  • 1 1
@erickgonzalez: I had no idea there was a brake, thanks for the education. Cheers
  • 1 0
 Hmmmmm. E-unicycle. E-unicycle……….(taps fingers impatiently) E-unicycle?

E-unicorn! Did I win? (Hangs head, leaves comment section)
  • 2 0
Damn, that is even cooler than dandeming!
  • 1 0
 Thanks!
  • 2 1
Everyone (myself included) who ever looks at a line and says " oh I'm on the wrong bike for that ".... god damn.
  • 7 0
And that said I could't do most of these lines on my bike Razz
  • 1 0
@erickgonzalez: Exactly! I couldn't do those lines on your bike either, you probably need a new one? In all seriousness I couldn't do those lines on any bike.
  • 1 0
@erickgonzalez: To be clear, I assume that's why you went with the unicycle! no issue with mechanical failures.
  • 1 0
Unicycle learning curves are weird. Like 3 pedal strokes one day to a half dozen stairs the next. I can't ride these lines, but there was a time back in my XC days where I was more comfortable doing things like meter drops on a muni than MTB. Being able to slow hop and pick your way through things lends a lot of confidence!
  • 2 0
this is a unicorn just for cuckoo heads
  • 2 0
no water bottle mount, wouldn't buy
  • 1 0
Anybody know why the brake is on the right side instead of the left? I've never really looked into unicycle design.
  • 2 0
Where's Kris Holm?? All you OGs out there know who Im talkin about!
  • 1 0
The inability to coast and just let gravity take over is what gets me the most about how hard this must be.
  • 1 0
Erick is one of the nicest humans you'll ever meet. Such a great rider and an even greater human.
  • 1 0
Just Awesome! That is on another level, well done!
  • 1 0
 Thank you!!
  • 2 1
 dam that's actually super sick!
  • 1 0
 Thank you!
  • 2 0
 Muni!
  • 1 0
 Kris Holmes would be proud!
  • 1 0
 Following in the tradition Smile
  • 1 0
Disappointed there aren't any comments about the weight savings.
  • 1 0
Think they'd get some performance benefits there if they clipped in ...
  • 3 0
definitely but I might be dead haha
  • 1 0
This guy probably is way into yoga, not that that is bad.
  • 1 0
That wasn't just 'unreal' - it was 'one wheel'!
  • 1 0
Finally something that doesn’t require a bmx background
  • 1 0
Do your balls get smashed a lot on the seat?
  • 1 0
 Yup!! I am impressed....
  • 1 0
This is absolutely moving. Such a beautiful thing to watch.
  • 2 0
@WildboiBen Thank you! Such a pleasure and honor to make Smile
