During the first week of UK lock-down I decided to create this video to stay sane. Making videos and riding bikes are my favourite things to do so I have been keeping busy just that.
Filming, Riding, Edit & Poor acting by Matthew Davies @blackveinmedia
Luckily they have the same knee protections. Imagine the nightmare of changing them like the jumper at every single shot.
Congrats for the video, it must have been a lot of work!
originally i wanted to use different bikes, clothing & kit but i could only film on cloudy days for continuity and wales decided to brighten up, so i had 3 days lined up to film under a cloudy sky. and that wouldn't have been enough, so i went for a jumper instead. i ended up filming it in 2 days because the 3rd day brought sunshine and i couldn't get the shots to match up with the light hitting the dust. thanks dude! really enjoyed making it
Yeah, was beautiful. What was the music? It sounded like The Slackers but I've heard Hepcat (or something like that) sounds similar. I've seen The Slackers several times live and I've got a couple of their albums, but I didn't recognize this tune.
Shiiit that was mint. I make a lot of self flimed ride films as it keeps it interesting when i ride solo. this is next level,. well done and thanks for the inspiration
Dude! your photography is what got me shooting myself.. what trigger do you use? i've been wanting to get in touch but couldn't find you. I'm keen to try some photography self shooting while on lockdown to keep active with my camera
And, while a great video, the entire delusional premise of "Social Distancing" was, is, and always will be stupid. No one anywhere, of any title or any profession, can quantify a single life "saved". But, we can now account for massive alcohol and drug use (USA), domestic abuse upwards of 400% spike (USA), bankruptcy, and joblessness at 1930's levels...
If I were to lift my rear wheel in a corner (+/- 6min), I would need a helicopter ride out of the trails.
@seanryan: let’s talk about the fact that staying indoors, staying away from other people, constantly washing your hands, disinfecting everything, not shaking hands, and wearing a face mask.. are all things which will impact your immune system.
@tobiusmaximum: Shhh... that's still a big taboo it seems. As we avoid the spread of covid, we also avoid the spread of all other virusses and bacteria we need to develop and keep our immune system in check. We've got a buffer as adults, but for kids in particular, lacking this exposure is a big deal. They're snotty for a reason, that's their immune system developing whatever they need to stay healthy later in life. Stick with this behavior until the vaccine is there and we've end up with a generation of kids with all kinds of allergies and and weaknesses.
@vinay: Let's send all the kids out to lick Ebola and TB patients so....
"end up with a generation of kids with all kinds of allergies and and weaknesses"
We'll also end up with a generation of kids who never knew their grandparents or one of parents because some people were too selfish to be inconvenienced for a few months.
@lance-19: Pretty sure they're aware of this too. They're experts after all. The whole point of keeping the spread in check is because the medical workers don't have the capacity to help everyone who needs help. It is a big deal and obviously keeping that in check has priority. But it is good to be aware of the compromise. Go do trail maintenance, go open water swimming, loads of ways to get your daily dose of infection without increased risk of spreading covid per se. But you need to keep that immune system busy. Staying home and washing your hands too isn't necessarily helping there. But obviously do so in situations where you'd otherwise spread this decease as the capacity just isn't there to help everyone who already doesn't have a strong immune system, diabetes, elderly, obese etc.
@lance-19: ‘thousands of experts’? There are plenty of experts saying the opposite of what we’ve been told. But for some whacky reason regular people always listen to the experts who are affiliated with government and on a revolving door to the pharmaceutical industry.
@tobiusmaximum: I cannot understand the logic of people who think that the governments attempts to reduce the spread of an infection that can kill anyone (especially certain at risk groups) is somehow an attack on their rights and freedom. Every day the UK appears to drift more towards the backwards paranoid lunacy that you see in America.
@vinay: Definitely don't disagree with this part! I think there are plenty of benefits to getting outside (safely!) during this pandemic. Was responding to the original comment because I just don't think that framing it in a way that suggests that social distancing is a massive evil is useful. And suggesting that the measures governments have taken "haven't saved a single life" is just flat wrong.
@tobiusmaximum: If you think this virus is a massive conspiracy to enrich pharmaceutical CEO's, more power to you! I just prefer to think that the understanding generated by peer-reviewed science is more reliable than the conspiracies peddled by content farms.
@tobiusmaximum: If you can explain how my rights and freedoms are being exploited and taken away from me?
Only major changes that I have noticed over the last couple of decades is not being allowed to smoke indoors, stricter drink driving laws and not being able to stamp on peoples heads in rugby, all of which i think is beneficial to me and my fellow human being.
But please do tell me how i'm being repressed and the Illuminati and deep state and trying to exploit and harvest my organs.
@tobiusmaximum: So are you going to explain how my rights and freedoms are being exploited and taken away from me? Or are you just going to keep deflecting.
@seanryan: You are not in the United States, so, I can not explain a thing as to your rights (or lack there of)...but, there was a reason that the US even came to be, some couple hundred years ago.....
@seanryan: dude, I don’t have the next three and half days to explain what’s going on right in front of your face. If you are the proverbial fish that doesn’t know what water is, I can’t help you.
(Translation: seriously, what is the point? you aren’t going to take my word for anything after trying to gaslight me about the Illuminati)
Yeah, having public healthcare is really an attack on my freedom, how dare they not charge me hundreds of thousands of euro to save my life, horrible government.
"there was a reason that the US even came to be" What reason was that? So the rest of us could look over and say "well alt least we're not as bad as them"?
@seanryan: Sure, and, that is why the preponderance of educated Americans simply want to cut off all of Europe, NATO, UN and on and on and on. Let them all die again, as they have historically done, over and over. It would not be long for Germany to (once again rightly) rule the continent.
I have been to Europe many times, seriously, is dental hygiene that hard? I mean, as long as I can get my German and Italian cars, Italian road bike parts...I have no need for the rest (who, again, would be speaking clear Christian German without the US and our sacrifices).
LONG past time the US stop bailing out the shithead mistakes fo the rest fo the planet. Well, and then there was Brexit....now, now, now....seems a swing to the right there as well.....
@lance-19: Seems like my comment was taken out of context. There are some virusses and bacteria the body simply won't be able to deal with. If you're infected, you'll get ill and won't heal. Ebola and HIV are horrible examples (in the sense that they are correct, they're just horrible for those affected) which are to be avoided. What I meant to say (if it weren't clear already) is that the immune system is a "use it or lose it" kinda system. It needs to be triggered for it to be active and alert. And this triggering is particularly necessary in kids' younger years. They're being exposed (in the "old" society) to all kinds of virusses and bacteria and their immune system is working and learning. That's how teens/adults no longer notice a mellow virus attack whereas that little kid got all snotty. These adults got snotty when they were kids, that's how their body learned, developed and got strong. It won't work for everything (so ebola and HIV are out of the question) but that doesn't matter, the body just needs something to work with. And this strong immune system isn't just useful to deal with the "regular harmless" attacks, it also needs to be strong and active to deal with a vaccine. After all that's what a vaccine is. The weakened virus that isn't as harmful but still upsets/triggers the immune system. If it has gone dormant, it won't properly react to the vaccine and as such, the vaccine just won't be as effective. Now obviously this lockdown and social distancing has only been a couple of months which for adults isn't that much of a deal. And we're still be exposed to all kinds of "attacks" so that's fine. But for a strong immune system that's both able to deal with new virus attacks as well as that vaccine, it just shouldn't take too long. For kids even more so.
So my suggestion wasn't to mess with social distancing, knowfully exposing yourself to virusses that can't be healed or taking risks on the level that would get you in a hospital if it goes wrong. My suggestion however was that just like we should keep our muscles, respiratory system etc active during this time to have it "ready", we should do the same with our immune system. You likely won't contract covid with open water swimming, nor by being cut by torn and branches. And it won't land you in a hospital either (unless you can't swim or the water is just too dirty). So just like we can't train our muscles anymore in a crowded fitness center, we still want to train them elsewhere. Similarly, just like our immune systems aren't any longer triggered by visiting crowded places, we still need to trigger them elsewhere. You need it to be ready for when a virus (whatever virus) strikes or also whenever you get vaccinated.
@vinay: Used to be (good) parents would have "Chicken Pox" parities to expose their kids. Not too long ago a parent was arreted for the same thing....yes, "The Man" has gone way, way too far and needs to be put back into check.
@underdogscult: Went mountainbiking yesterday morning and this morning. Went supping yesterday afternoon. The commuter bike is being used every day. Are you trying to keep track of what I'm doing throughout the day? Good luck.
@vinay: No, No, NO!!!!!! You are supposed to be an ignorant and compliant mush brained loach sitting at home fearing the mortality of apathetic people you do not even know. You must assimilate....jerk.
Oh, BTW, I love it when places ask me if I had been near anyone who was diagnosed with COVID (you know, a diagnosis with an asymptomatic person)....what I should say is "lets test your hands for fecal matter, 90% chance I find it)....but, instead, I say "yes, all day most every day" and walk right past. Of course, not wearing a useless face mask.
My god, if nothing more this whole deboggle points out the ignorance of the masses.

Sounds like he wrote this just for you. It’s no wonder you don’t see that you’re living in 1984.
