Rob and Finn Iles are on the hunt for one of the most stunning trails in the world and travel to Los Nevados Mountains. Immersing themselves in the local culture, the duo warm up with a ride through coffee fields, milk cows in a mountain farm and show their coordination at salsa dancing before attacking a descent through the jungles of Colombia.
That trail looks a lot like La Alegria which is absolutely incredible. If anyone wants to explore the same area with the wax palms and ride one of the best trails that descends almost 3,000 vertical feet over 4 miles, hit up Salento Cycling! If this is the same trail, that gap Finn hit is wild. Awesome episode despite the lack of Tejo.
It is actually Alegrias.... to much editing involved, they missed some cooler sections and some other cool riding areas... any time you wanna ride over there, just let me know....a couple of personal friends are local riders, and I normally visit the area 3 times a year...just love it
@Katiefortuna: Stay in Manizales and you can get plenty of riding in right from the city. You can do an overnight trip to Salento to ride La Alegria. The riding in Medellin is also amazing but Manizales is the perfect city to spend your days enjoying the best of Colombia regarding culture, Food and coffee and really friendly people.
@skinnybex: We tentatively have plans to stay in Salento...hadn't thought to stay in Manizales. Biking wasn't meant to be the focus of our trip (but we're not going to add it in!), so we will only get a ride or two in and will have to rent bikes.
@Katiefortuna: I have what you need....I am able to arrange any kind of mountain biking experience in Salento and other sweet places of Colombia with local fellas...
Good show. Used to be that getting a tattoo was cool and rebellious, maybe now its cool and rebellious not to. (Not sure if Finn has any or not though).
Rob's tats make him look like a turned-out old hoor outside the shipyard tavern. That said, he definitely stepped up his manual (coaster-wheelie, really) game this episode! Must be due to a couple of PB comments last time. Well done boys.
I agree with what you said, but I'm not sure how old you are so let me provide a little context for your statement. I'm 53. In 1992 tats were full blown "cool and rebellious" in Seattle and just starting to gain popularity outside hip cities. Within five years, long before 2000, they may have still been cool depending on your tastes, but were a sign that you were a follower of trends, not a rebel. Remember those asinine tribal tats? Apparently it's taken nearly two more decades for the cool part to fade also.
I sacrifice myself and volunteer to accompany Rob in his next adventure....Finn must have had a "nightmare" in these "terrible" places...we all envy you guys.
The guys @ Salento Cycling are awesome! Just ask them to do the "special trail" and they'll get you there.
-Some A-hole had to say it.
