He's on the lower trails under the gondola in Queenstown, NZ. Queenstown MTB Club generally discourage riders from using the trails in the winter because it f***s them up so much, as is being shown in the video.
@notsofastoverfifty: rotate the trails, if given 1 season they will grow back to what they were before. I do understand the lack of man power to be able to accomplish this though.
Most of the trail in the video wasn't all that wet looking honestly (potentially jaded PNW rider here). Sure a few little puddles, and it was clearly wet/damp. But the trail surface didn't look soggy at all, and the mud didn't look like it was really clingy/etc. Honestly that looked like great riding conditions for most of it.
But that last berm was huge, sloppy muddy, and DESTROYED. Thats the sort of mud that can cause issues though. Looks sticky.
Also, I've been really liking my WTV Verdict this winter. A big improvement over the Vigilante in traction. The new shorty looks fairly similar, and I bet it would do great here as well. Maybe I'll give it a try next winter .
Needs a disclaimer: Professional rider on a private track where no trails were harmed (or they were immediately repaired after the filming) in the video.
