According to some of the top women in mountain biking, these are the qualities that have pushed the best to become even better, paved the way for a new generation of all-stars, and brought female participation in the sport to a whole new level. Hear Kialani Hines, Vaea Verbeeck, Miranda Miller, and more, talk about what drives them to persevere through every peak and valley in the world of competitive mountain biking.

 Loving this series!

I don't know if other people or women feel this way, but I greatly prefer watching women riders because I don't relate to male athletes quite as much. Like, when I see Casey Brown pop up on my live feed when watching an event, I get WAY more excited than when the top male athletes pop up. I wonder if other people feel that way too?

Regardless, it's such a cool time to be a woman in this sport and I love seeing these kinds of media projects Smile

 I kinda prefer the female dh wc as well, even though I'm male. Probably because of Thanee and Rachel going nuts on each other

 Women's DH is good - I keep rooting for the local ladies. But women's XC right now is on fire. Even though my competition preference is enduro, the women's XC is so competitive and intriguing that I get drawn to it more than most other events.

 To be honest as a male rider I can relate to some riders, male or female. And very much not relate to some others, male or female. In fact being from The Netherlands and now in my late thirties, I've been rooting for Anneke Beerten ever since she was on the BeOne (B1) team. She's about my age, same country so that's why I could relate to her and I really wanted her to do well. I was so stoked when she placed second at the Lisbon Urban downhill race on a tiny Specialized Enduro SX (first gen) right after ACC (who was considered pretty much unbeatable at the time). I was impressed she was working in a record store in the off season to fund her racing. Such determination. And I was really rooting for ACC at the first Olympic BMX finals. I almost choked when she was attacked in the final corner of the finals. I don't know much about the male finals of that year (though iirc Maris Stromberg won and Jared Graves crashed out placing fifth). Dutch BMX ladies swept the Worlds podium last year so I was stoked about that too. Yet at the same time I'm always rooting for Gee Atherton. Who else picks up several DH titles and a second place at the Rampage too? And I was hugely disappointed when Tracey Hannah had to leave the WC series after such a great 2007 season.

In short, contrary to what some women seem to believe us male riders are interested in both male and female racing and it is by no means all about the looks. Both have inspiring stories and achievements and that's what matters.

 Excellent series! So many inspiring women! And all these "lessons" can be applied to us, men, too. Way to go. We want and need more and more girls mountain biking.

 I just started riding last summer and have never felt so welcomed in a sport by other women. Almost all the girls I have some across on the trails have either smiled warmly or come up to introduce them selves. I feel like the new kids at school but with out all the drama and superficial mumbo jumbo. This series has definitely made me wanna keep shredding!

 Really enjoying this series. The more I listen to Miranda Miller, the more I like her. I had no idea that 2017 was her first year with full factory support. And she won Worlds. That is nuts.

 I'd say that close to half of the friends I've made through mountain biking are women, many of whom are way more ballsy and technically capable than myself. All of the coaching I've had since I got into MTB has been with Katy Curd, a hugely talented rider and an exceptional coach, who has also become a great friend. It's great to see more and more women getting into this sport of ours, so hopefully the positive coverage will continue and so help to grow the sport.

 I love coming across groups of girls riding the local trails. One of my favourites was up on the Shore riding a challenging blue (borderline black run), when I see two girls merge on to the trail. We chatted for a bit and then I found out that the one girl had been riding for a month! She had the biggest grin on her face. Love it!

 Great video- keep em coming. Good advice about having a back up plan for the months when injury keeps you from riding..grabbing my ice pack and watching it again.

 I get that this is a “Crankworx” series, but find it so strange they didn’t mention that Miranda Miller won the DH World F**KING CHAMPIONSHIP in 2017.
