Video: Showcasing the Very Best Trails of the Maritime Alps

Jan 5, 2021
by 1001sentiers

The Maritime Alps, South of France, is not only the birthplace of some of the greatest MTB riders of the world (Vouilloz, Bruni, Barel, Vergier, Nicolaï...). It's also an awesome puzzle of wild mountains full of trails playing between the summits of the Alps and the Mediterranean coast. You may have seen some of its iconic trails, like the grey earth, red canyons, alpine single-tracks, switchbacks madness and Roman roads by looking at some videos, watching french enduro races reports or following the Trans-Provence coverage.

A true mountain biking paradise where Greg Germain from @1001sentiers is guiding tours since more than ten years. In his last video “Life is too short to ride boring trails”, he's sharing the beauty and variety of his playground and the spirit of the MTB Adventures 1001sentiers.

Video by GenepiFilm

Enjoy the video and check the riding program 1001sentiers to taste these lovely trails with Greg.

@sarahmoore: Thanks Sarah for sharing my video!

I used to live there and did a few races( Trans V and loup du bois noir)... wonderful and rocky singletracks 100 % natural.. most of them were used by shepards or guys working in remote olive fields... Basically that s the exact opposit compared to BC trails but we share the same passion! Definitely worth riding especially with a guy like Greg who will show you the most secret spots...

I must say that we miss some super funny trails like the ones in BC, but shaping here is a bit harder than in Canada, because of rocks and because of the administration, and also the culture of mountain biking has been used to take multi-century paths for riding since the beginning. Hopefully lot of them are really playful! Thanks for your words ;-)

@greg1001sentiers: Please keep it that way! I loved the 'into the wild' unshaped, naturally grown trails while riding the TV and its neighbourhood a couple of times. If riders want bikeparky stuff, Finale and Pietra Ligure is 2hrs away.

@jeroenk: So true. That's the way we love to ride bikes here, wild, a bit challenging, lost into the mountains. And I must say that for me nothing is better that finding the flow and having fun on a trail which has not been initially designed for our toys.

Very Nice (06 ;-)) video Greg.
I went last september to ride with you in the Mercantour. The video reflect what we rode.
I recommand a weekend with 1001 Sentiers. It's an amazing weekend.

Rode in this region in the 2015-TP race. I can attest that the terrain is super varied, from alpine meadows to rocky ledges and everything in between. Would love to get back there someday.

Great race! We definitely miss it. For those who would like to relive it or who never had the chance to ride its stages, I've convinced Ash to organise with me a Trip T-P Relived on September 2021 : www.1001sentiers.fr/riding/trip-trans-provence-relived

Wow this is lovely! That's exactly what I love to watch and ride. Haven't been in the Maritime alps yet but I surely enjoy our Austrian alps. Maybe one day I'll visit. Thanks for the refreshing and unique video.

Thanks. You definitely have a wonderful terrain in Austria with so many scenic alpine trails.

I can't say it enough, but Greg is a really good person. You should consider a ride with him if you travel to Nice.

Very nice (06 ;-)) video Greg. It's a good summary of what we rode during the enduro weekend organised by you.
I recommend a day or a weekend with 10001 trails. You will ride what is shown in the video

I feel really blessed to have been able to life in Nice for some while two years ago. Certainly one of the most beautiful places in Europe.

Indeed, lucky us to have everything we should dream about just around: big mountains up to 3000m, the sea, 300 sunny days a year, picturesque villages, wild nature just behind the coast, good food, and tons of trails with so much character to ride our bikes!

 @greg1001sentiers:
Just so you know, I kind of hate you now.
I happen to be lucky enough to have ridden in the region a bit, some of the best biking ever to be done there.

I've seen as many MTB videos as the next person, but the gulch at 2:56 jingled my ornaments real well.

Such a wonderful spot indeed, about 15min in a row playing in these grey gullies, insane!

J'espère que je pourrait revenir bientôt dans le 06! Cela me manque trop maintenant.

Every mountain biker should try the Transvésubienne!

So true! Only the Brave! You did it?

Il y a des discussions en ce moment pour que le 06 récupère le roc d'azur...
Des infos Greg?
  • 1 0
@lecriquet: Jamais entendu parlé de ça personnellement. Où as-tu eu/lu cette info ?
  • 1 0
 @greg1001sentiers:

You Canadian forests and mountains are not bad too, I had the chance to ride once around Squamish, amazing. Here in the Southern French Alps and along the Italian border, it's totally different in terms of landscapes and vegetation. From 0 to 3000m we have so much variety, and an endless trails network to enjoy it. A must-ride if you never did!

Stunning video, can anyone tell me the name of the song?
  • 2 0
It's a song from Universal pro list dedicated to editors, I don't have the name right now but I try to get it with my cameraman.
  • 1 0
@greg1001sentiers: that would be awesome thanks!
