This summer I wanted to tackle a few trail features across the border. Just a short trip from Vancouver, Bellingham has a vast trail network and you'll meet tons of friendly faces out enjoying the sunny weather. With Nic recovering from a broken wrist he offered to take the role of filmmaker and we headed into the forests of Bellingham. Four hot and sweaty days later I've compiled my favourite clips in this video.

Air in and hang on.

Hand built to the highest standard!

Galbraith's newest jumpline. Shoutout to @Spencerbhamx & @Andy-Grant for this sick build!

High speed feature.
Low speed feature.

Huge shoutout to the trail builders and maintainers.

Riding: Sullivan Reed
Camera: Nic Vlak

This is Bellingham, Oaklahoma, not the cesspool without trails or any beer in Washington.

I nade the mistake of going to bellingham washington thinking fun stuff like this was there! Boy was i dissapointed, i would definitely never ever, ever, everrrrr recommend riding in bellingham washington
  • + 28
@blob425: for real it’s flat and it all it does is rain here :/
  • + 32
I'm from near by Bellingham and I'm always pissed there isn't better riding around.
  • + 20
Sorry, I think you're confused - that trail is clearly the one in Bellingham, Armenia. Whole different continent.
  • + 20
Bellingham, Washington is literally the worst place ever.
  • + 9
Would never ride here, the people suck, the trails are crap, and the scenery is filled with pollution and smog.

@blob425: just to let you know that's all in Bellingham and all pretty close to each other, you weren't looking in the right place
  • + 13
I have the same sentiment. The trails are not challenging at all, its incredible how flat it is, and there are no good breweries to hang out at after the ride. Might as well ride Southern California. On Beach Front trails. The whole NorthWest ride mecca thing is so totally overblown.
  • + 16
@Poulsbojohnny: I hear the Bay Area is sweet. And lots of free Sprinter parking.
  • + 4
I also hate this place. Pretty close to Canada which also sucks. @timmigrant:

This definitely looks like duthie hill mtb park in Issaquah WA. There is a big parking lot, & lots of fun trails!
  • + 9
@robokfc: Dude stop letting everyone know where it really is!
  • + 1
@Nathan6209: one of these is not like the others.
  • + 22
I built a good chuck of these trails! Rainbow road, Mohawk and Gnar Shore. I have no issues with videos or photos being posted. I love to ride and I love to film just like Sullivan. Dope video man @sullbikes

Love the opening aerial scene at Duthie.
  • - 3
@n1ck: the opening scene is just south of Bellingham I logged that spot right there

Hi Sull. I've mentioned this to you before, but I'll mention it again, since you continue to be completely oblivious.
Do you not wonder about the implications of posting up relatively precise info regarding the location of illegal trails? You obviously like riding this stuff as much as I do, and access to them is on very shaky ground. They are a limited resource, built by a dedicated group of people, in areas that are already quite contentious. Maybe just don't name and place them? I don't know.
Thanks, Dan P.
  • + 3
 yeah
  • + 5
Or use drone shots that include the surrounding terrain.
  • + 4
@danperl: Not oblivious Dan. We have slightly different views and I want you to know I've read your comment. I'll leave it at that and any further discussion should take place outside the comments thread.
  • + 4
@sullbikes: Nobody cares what your "views" are. You're a guest here and as a guest you are expected to show some respect. If you're not able to do that, you're welcome to stop coming.
  • + 4
Am I missing something? I don't see any mentions of where these trails are specifically. Just PNW and about the new jump line on Galbraith
  • + 3
@ihatetomatoes: I'm with you man. Sullivan is a friend of mine and I still can't figure out where these zones actually are even though he's explained to me over the phone lol. Now it's just a joke where I ask and he says 'across the border by the big tree'

@jefe: you are correct that they are guests. Most offen complaining about our politicial views yet coming across the border by the thousands every day buying everything in site and now posting about trails that they had no hand in and clearly not caring!
Maybe Trump is building a wall at the wrong end of the country?
  • + 7
@MX298: fine with me. My hometown is overrun by Americans coming up for cheap mountain bike holidays. Less people on the trails, less people in the lift line and less people in the surf.
  • + 10
@ihatetomatoes: yeah, I'm willing to bet all the north shore/squamish/whistler/island/rest of BC boys are reading this classic elitist American comment and just chuckling to themselves. What else can you do?

Washington bans BC mountain bikers for leeching off of them, since America has exclusive rights to all good mountain biking.

Read that out loud and try to keep a straight face.
  • + 11
 @KennyWatson @sullbikes @ihatetomatoes & @MX298 :

FWIW, I helped build trails in Bellingham 10 years ago, then moved away to Sydney. At that time someone had posted an article showing the illegal (yet insanely fun) trails near ANTSO/Menai. Same thing happened, the locals went crazy that the article was posted, and within a few days the contributor took it down. ANTSO is Australian government property, so whether or not the contribution helped eliminate what was shown is debatable.

Anyway, this whole segue into nationalism is just dumb. Who cares if you're Canadian or American or whatever? What does it matter what political views one has, where one buys things or where one chooses to have a cheap mtb holiday? It's almost as if pointing out the whole American vs. Canadian thing is just the lazy low-hanging fruit for those who can't articulate their perspective but don't want to seem wrong.

The whole gist of it is: have some respect for the people who built what you ride and if they ask you to not identify the location, either rectify the problem or take the contribution down. This goes for both sides of the border. FFS guys, getting into arguments over national differences is downright petty, especially when you're fortunate enough to live in that area of the world.
  • - 1
@MX298: you want Canadians to stop buying American? No problem.
  • + 6
@frankreynolds: seriously, this got out of hand really fast.

I live in bellingham and love showing people around. The same has been done for me when i go north. Politics don't belong in pinkbike threads.

Andy Grant chimed in to a different thread, and he has built way more than most in this town. If he's stoked, I'm shutting up.

 duthie looks sick!
  • + 25
that duthie back-country is really comin along

A few too many obvious shots of what trail and the location for my taste. Next time leave the trail signs and aerial clear cut shots out of it. Galby is fair game, but the other stuff is a little more sensitive. It's important to keep it low key so we don't lose access. If you want to give a big shout out to the trail builders that's probably the biggest one you could give. I've heard the riding in Cascadia is pretty dang good. Great riding by the way.
  • + 9
@sullbikes agreed, leave signs and aerial shots out, dude. You said "shout out to the builders..." but then completely disrespect them by threatening access.
  • + 2
@hockeydavey: +1...a link to the WMBC donation page at least....c'mon, @sullbikes!
  • + 4
@geephlow: I have donated to WMBC because I want to support the work being done and highly enjoy the trail network in Bellingham. Those watching this video for entertainment that have never ridden at Galbraith are likely NOT going to donate. Those that get to take advantage of Galbraith's trail network are the ones most likely to donate and Trailforks is a great way to do that.

I have a friend who can only whip it one way too.
  • + 19
Whatever happened to NOT naming where less than legal trails are located? Comeon guys.
  • + 9
Where did you see anything named that was not official? Good point, but only one trail sign showed up and most of Galbraith is shown on Trailforks.
  • + 16
There's 10% increase in the Sprinter population every time one of these "look how cool Bellingham is" videos comes out.
  • + 2
The world needs more Sprinters. Houses stuck in one location are bullshit.
  • + 15
Metal, skill required features, and a sexy Evil. This should be longer. It ticks everything that should be in a mtb video.

Including shitty music. Every good video has to have shitty music.

Nice edit. Love the sections where the trail seems only theoretical.....just a series of take-offs and landings amidst the ferns.....

That one roll is shit-your-pants scary in person, annoying you make it look somewhat easy in the video haha
  • + 3
Man, I felt bad that my comment got down-voted and now it looks like it's been removed. I was simply referring to the name of one of the trails the dude here hit awesomely and made look easy......trail is actually called Retarded Awesome and built by one of the coolest and best MTB riders I've had the pleasure to know. Anyway, guess I gotta add the R word to the litany of other words my almost 51 year old mind has to purge.........
  • + 5
Lovely style but I came here expecting technical stuff like shore and skinnies, I leave not disappointed but perplexed as there was little of that
  • + 12
 Dude, it's 2018.
  • + 3
@JDFF: and??? Does wide trails and big jumps now class as technical ??
  • + 1
@sewer-rat: Maybe the rock roll to drop has more of a risk factor involved than technical ability Smile
  • + 3
Honest question about Bellingham and Galbriath...are these trails commissioned by the land owners or are these being built underground? The width and scope of the trails seems way beyond a couple guys going rogue on their own. The more I see the more I add it to the 'gotta go hit it list'
  • + 62
The trails are all underground. Bring a flashlight and bat spray if you come
  • + 3
Some of what you saw is totally legal and on Galbraith. Other stuff is rouge but land owners turn a blind eye.
  • + 11
These are all commissioned by the landowners, specifically the trails in the video which were all filmed at Galbraith.
  • + 5
Proximity to Canada is a compounding equation on the level of radness.
  • + 2
@joe1989: You win PB for the day.
  • + 9
The Galby trails are all legal, and the landowners JUST gave the city (county?) a permanent recreation easement meaning we never have to worry about being shut out of the trails. This is a HUGE win for WA mtn bikers.
  • + 2
@Tarekith: Yeah, the easement is amazing!
  • + 3
@Tarekith: Amazing, locally in Laguna Beach it's a constant battle/evasion from the Rangers. We lose a couple of trails a year.

Oh, and thanks whoever for downvoting my simple question! WTF? Ha!
  • + 1
@Tarekith: I rode Galby once, it was amazing. I didnt really know what the land situation was, but is the mountain owned by a logging company? They just let the riders and the city build on the land, and whenever they have to log, they clear a section?
  • + 4
When surfing and MTB coincide and not in a good way Looks like the locals didn't like a Canadian dropping in on their break.
  • + 5
Sick dude!!!! Be sure Don and I are not riding front of you anymore on jump trails ahah!
  • + 5
You guys can follow me Smile
  • + 4
Holy shit not the skinny XC guy I remember. Way to rip! Inspiring me to go a little bigger next ride!
  • + 1
 Thanks dude! Go big!
  • + 5
 Wow, well done.

  • + 1
 haha thanks man!
  • + 3
Ok I guess dirt jumps and drops are tech, but we found some downright scary slow old school cracks and slab in Squampton.
  • - 1
 And your point is....?
  • + 2
@Wigal123: I think he's getting at the fact that these are big features, not so much tech features
  • + 4
Awesome video Sully, making it look so easy.
  • + 1
 Thanks Brian!

@sullbikes: Great riding and video. For more fun come back and ride these in the wet.

Fucking amazing I got down voted for the first time ever. Some folks so easily triggered, some just posers who know nothing about music. Keep up the good work brother!
  • + 3
That did NOT go for long enough.!!!
  • + 3
 super trails, nice town too
  • + 3
Fuck Bellingham. I heard it rains there.
  • + 2
Is 77 degrees considered hot and sweaty like itnis in Oregon? Haha
  • + 14
Yes. Anything above 72 is miserable and intolerable.
  • + 7
@JustinVP: LoL, it's upper 80s at night with 85-90% humidity at night and 90-100 with 65-75% humidity during the day here in South Korea. Talk about miserable...
  • + 1
 @richierocket: humidity should be outlawed
  • + 1
@underhawk: Right! It's Friday at 3:24pm and 97 outside (93 inside except for my AC bedroom) and 74% humidity in and out... TT
  • + 1
@richierocket: I have lived in Georgia 3 times throughout my adult life and do not miss stepping outside in nice clean clothes just to be soiled two minutes later. I compared the humidity to perpetually walking through sheets of moisture dangling in front of you with every step you take.
