Video: Team CRC Unveil 2020 Bikes

Feb 20, 2020
by Chain Reaction Cycles

After a barnstorming 2019 season in which Sam Hill claimed a record-breaking third Enduro World Series Championship, we’re pleased to bring you the new Team Chain Reaction Cycles bikes and website for the upcoming season.

As well as maintaining a number of long-term component sponsors including RockShox and SRAM, the team will also be riding onboard Nukeproof bikes and wearing the brand’s clothing. You can find out more about the bikes, sponsors, riders and more via the team website.

Pre-season in Peille
The world-famous Peille downhill track was the base for the team’s pre-season testing with SRAM, one of the team’s major sponsors, working to dial-in the new bikes and suspension settings.

What a great week in the South of France with SRAM! The downhill track was super rough and a real challenge for the bikes and riders, but it’s a great track to test wheels and suspension with a quick turn around on the shuttle.

SRAM had technicians working on each rider’s bike, with food and drink laid on, social media staff covering the camp, and a physio to keep our bodies in check. All the support we had was a huge help for the riders getting their bikes dialled and ready for the upcoming races.

Sam, Elliott and Kelan were all riding great and put in some quick laps on the rough track.

Check out the GoPro runs from the guys!

Winning Strava KOMs in Dolceacqua
After the two days of testing with SRAM, one of our other long term major sponsors, Mavic, came out to meet us for wheel testing and to film some video. The Mavic guys are an awesome bunch and fun to be around - look for some cool video footage from them in the not too distant future. It was great to have Rob, Michael and Dale to help with bike setup and testing too.

Jacy Shumilak, Sam's long-term mechanic, making some tweaks to the Nukeproof Mega

Team Chain Reaction Cycles' 2020 Nukeproof Mega - you can see the full spec on the team website.

Set-up in San Romolo
After four days of riding in Peille, we headed over to near San Romolo in Italy to ride the Antigravity track. Ben from Michelin met us there with some amazing tyres. This is a great track with a bit of everything on it with rocks, corners and fast sections. It’s a really good track for bike testing and set-up as well as being super fun to ride.

For the last day of riding, we headed down to see our friends at Supernatural in Dolceacqua and they shuttled us on an amazing track called Apocalypse Now, which is such a fun track. We had a great time riding this track and the lads put in some fast Strava times especially on Gnarly Charlie and Pie Man ;-)

We also got some great footage and photos during the week from TJ and Laurence, while Lyn from CRC was looking after the social media as well as cooking us some great meals in the evening.

All in all, it was a great week of riding, testing and set-up, getting ready for the race season ahead. A huge thanks to everyone involved:

* Sam, Elliott, Kelan and Jacy.
* Everyone at SRAM
* The Mavic crew
* Ben from Michelin
* Supernatural, Dolceacqua
* Lyn from CRC
* Rob, Dale and Michael from Nukeproof

We are all set and ready to take on the world again in 2020, so stay tuned to see how the team gets on.

dudes - let the hate go, move on btw, I am not fanboying but have ordered hundreds of items from CR over the last 20yrs and they have all arrived rapidly, efficiently and cheaply. The only time something wasn't quite right I called them, spoke to a real person straight away and got it sorted immediately

I've recently had the opposite experience. Ordered some Dainese shorts, only to receive product that does not match the item described/pictured.... at all.

This is what I ordered (you can see my review)
www.chainreactioncycles.com/ca/en/dainese-awa-black-shorts-ss19/rp-prod184619

This is what I received:
www.dainese.com/row/en_CA/bike/awa-black/awa-black---short-203769479.html?dwvar_203769479_color=OMBRE-BLUE&cgid=bike-awa-black#start=1

Right name. Wrong product. They still have not fixed this on their site. I just want them to send me the correct short, which is stock in the right size, but apparently their system can't handle exchanges....? I've been nearly 3 weeks trying to resolve their error. Lesson learned, will stick to the LBS from here on out.

@billyno @akchurchill As a matter of fact one of my mates just bought a Mega 275 from CR. It arrived 1 day early and the box was in fine shape. We're on the West coast US. I will gladly buy one myself next month. Cheers!

CRC always been good for me.
  • 4 0
@akchurchill: Gotta admit,i laughed out loud! That shit looks nothing alike!
  • 3 0
 Heeey Taxi!
  • 7 0
More than 20 orders total, correct items every single time. Haven't tested their customer service yet. That's type of business I prefer.
  • 3 0
@akchurchill: what you do is, return the wrong item and get a refund, and then order the right item. It’s even quicker if you don’t wait for the refund before ordering again.
  • 12 0
@akchurchill: it’s your fault why would you buy dainese in the first place
  • 2 0
 @jakketayylor: LOL!
@akchurchill Aw mate those are adorable. You can always give them to your significant other...unless they're a man. ;P
  • 2 0
 @mybaben: yep i bought a mega275 frame in 2018, arrived just fine!
  • 1 0
Their returns policy is great too. Haven't used that part or worn that piece of clothing (excepting underwear) because it's not quite right and you want to send it back after 11 months because you forgot to do it sooner? As long as it's in saleable condition, no questions asked. Definitely takes the stress and guesswork out of getting sizing right.

flag sherbet Plus (Feb 20, 2020 at 15:20) (Below Threshold)
I ran a little internet give away on a discord and had my most recent issue with them.

I ordered the winner a pair of shoes on discount. I got an email 5 DAYS later saying those shoes were no longer in stock and I could select another pair of shoes with in store credit. The EXACT SAME SHOES I had put on order that were "out of stock" were in stock and no longer discounted. I contacted them, which resulted in a week long back and forth fight over trying to get my money back. I eventually had to contact my credit card to pursue it as a fraudulent charge to get my money back.

Kicker? A few days later I got a snide facebook message from them telling me to stop wasting their time and that this issue had been settled. Yes. It was settled. By me. Outside of your service support line.

That was the last straw for me. Have had a few other issues, but that's the most recent and my post is already too long. Fuck CRC.
  • 1 2
Mistakes in orders can happen but, they are expensive too. Their discounted products are often more expensive that other online shops (Germans) non-discounted prices. Every time that I spotted something in their online I bought it cheaper from the other guys.
  • 1 3
@sherbet: they could start to sell drugs since they cheat like that with a lot of people. I wonder if the manager is the responsable for this criminal atitude.
  • 2 2
@mybaben: Your right, when it goes well, it goes well. When you have to exchange, or return anything it is HELL. IF you can even afford to return the item. I got a pair of 510s back when you could still order them through CRC, but messed up on the conversion. My bad. Ok, lets return them. Oh, $400cad shipping to return. That's a quote from Puralator, UPS, and FedEx. Yeah, i'm not paying that to ship anything. So I had to sell them for next to nothing on PB.

Sorry gotta disagree. CRC used to be great. Good prices and awesome customer service, however everything changed after they were bought up by Wiggle. Last few times they have completely screwed me over - with wrong inventory information, paid extra for fast shipping but never arrived on time, packages that never arrived at all and a general lack of customer service and efforts to fix a wrong they have created. Now mostly use the german sites such as bike components and bike discout. Great prices and great customer service. Even bike24 which is owned by CRC is far better to use and has good customer service
  • 3 0
@cky78: WHAT?? Really? Why? I literally just sent some shorts back last week and it was $19.00 US.
  • 1 0
I ordered a tyre, a bottom bracket, a pair of gloves and a pair of socks in January. When the box came, no tyre or BB. I messaged to them and they sorted it out immediately. I had a replacement tyre and BB in a couple of days.
  • 1 0
@mybaben: eah, I don't know if it was because the item was being shipped from Canada, or what, but it was pricey as shit. Then the last thing I ordered was a complete delivery eff-show so I told them I wouldn't ever buy anything there again if this is the delivery company they're using in my region. Too bad as I used to buy lots of stuff through them.
  • 1 0
@cky78: Sorry to hear that mate!
  • 2 1
I’ve ordered two Megas over the last three years and they have both arrived early and in fine shape. Both made it from Belfast to the U.S. in five business days. Best bikes I’ve owned in a decade of riding.
  • 2 2
@rb716: the Mega is a really good bike. It should be on anyone’s shortlist.
  • 1 1
@rb716: One of my mates just bought a 275! Same, early and in fine shape! Super good bike!!! I'm going to get one too!

FINALLY they've ditched those terrible blue kits - bet that design choice was a battle with the CEOs...

watch it come back for the actual races XD
  • 1 0
Yeah but I don't like the big Chain Reaction logo on the legs. Frown
  • 1 0
Hated last year's kit, I always liked the moto style one they used to have.
  • 1 3
They'll want the old ones back once they realize how fucking hot a full black kit will make you on the transition climbs in 30 degree baking sun.
  • 21 5
Bang for buck you ain't getting a better bike than a mega.
  • 6 2

 +1 for sure!!

 @hhaaiirryy

Loved my Mega 290 for the most part. Plus i got the disgusting 2017-model fluro yellow/red; which i assume no-one wanted as i got it at a since-unrepeated sale price.

It's just slightly too long for me/my body profile (and/or the 29's didn't suit me) to really get the best out of it. I really struggled with jumps and drops at the bike park.

For trails though, absolutely loved it. So much so that i couldn't bring myself to sell it when i changed bike.

Would have loved to try a Mega 275.
  • 1 0
The Mega 290C is awesome, but its far from being the only awesome cheap enduro bike. Canyon Strive YT Capra Commencal Meta AM
  • 20 12
Am i the only one who despite the bikes being lovely and obviously very fast can't quite get over Nukeproof sounding like a cheap Argos bike brand that's trying too hard to impress 12 year olds with dual suspension and disc brakes for £200.
  • 31 7
 Yes, you are.
  • 4 1
In my experience people ohh and ahh over Nukeproofs more than just about any Trek, Spesh or Giant you'll see out there. They might be half the price and nowhere near as well-specced, but they look and sound exotic next to the big boys to people who don't necessarily know the difference between a Pike and a Factory 36, but know exactly what a Trek is.
  • 3 0
@gkeele: Not sure what you mean really. NP are specced VERY well, at least the top 2 or 3 models. Look at the Factory build Mega. That is an amazing kit and for under $5K US, that's amazing. As good or better specced than Trek and Spesh.
  • 1 0
@mybaben: I'm not saying Nukeproofs are specced poorly. I'm saying they stand out as different in a sea of very familiar names.
  • 1 0
@gkeele: Oh, I get you. Cheers.
  • 2 0
I agree with you. Even considering I was riding MTB when Nukeproof was a coveted brand making premium carbon hubs. Brand name aside, it will always be an uphill battle for legitimacy for any house brand bike. Having said that, this team is as legitimate and respected as it gets, which is going a long way towards raising Nukeproof from just a house brand CRC bike.
  • 2 0
Nukeproof gets lots of recognition and trail cred in my group of friends and is nearly as popular as YT, Commencal and Canyon. Way more than any bike-store brand.
  • 9 0
I wish they sold the bikes in that colour.
Wonder if Sam can make it 4 EWS titles in a row?
  • 9 0
The all black kit and bright yellow bike looks cracking!
  • 8 3
Surprised they had enough parts in stock to make one complete bike, every thing is out of stock year round at CRC for a long while now.
  • 6 1
Thank the good lord Gord they got rid of their old kits. New ones are a huge improvement!
  • 2 1
But now these ones are boring though, and I'm not digging the big Chain Reaction logos everywhere. They went the opposite extreme. LOL.
  • 4 0
Poor photographers this year. Nothing worse than trying to get sharp photos of a rider in all black kit. The yellow bike will help a bit, but not much
  • 1 0
 So true...
  • 1 0
The Supernatural guides of Dolceaqua should be not that far, they are also sponsored by Nukeproof:

www.super-natural.it

BTW next week there is an Enduro race Dolcenduro2020 (the URL has 2019 in there, but the info is for 2020): www.super-natural.it/dolcenduro-2019
  • 2 1
Just amazing to see the difference of speed between Hill and Hoel/Nicole on Peille track, it does not look like it on this video but this track is a real arm destroyer in real with almost no grip, unbeliviable to ride it like that on an enduro bike
  • 3 0
I kinda miss the blue kit, was always easy to spot.
  • 1 0
Those horizon pedals look interesting. Looks to have a huge platform with the benefits of being clipped in.
  • 1 0
And that's the narrow "trail" version
  • 2 0
I need those tires! For Christ's sakes Michelin, take my money....
  • 2 1
Chain Reaction wants all of us in San Remo and Peille, in this way they will sell so many wheels!
  • 1 0
Wow what a track full of chunky rocks - still looks flowy at sams run - only there
  • 1 0
I like it.. not a boring color, something different not those boring black and white color. lol
  • 2 1
I like that they haven't significantly changed bikes or component choices. Shows confidence in the product
  • 2 1
More like didn't really change anything compared to what they were riding at the end of last season. At least Sam's bike looks identical except for color. Which, you are right, shows that the products are good and they are happy with them, but I wouldn't really call it an unveiling like the article heading suggests Big Grin
  • 2 1
Michelin can suck it for not providing the new tires to distro.I only have one lifetime.....

  • 2 0
I would sooner see him on his Enduro bike. So don't include me in your "all"
  • 1 1
I came to see how they topped Sam's previous one-off paint jobs. Yellow was not what I expected.
  • 2 2
Last time I received an item from CRC it got here before I ordered it. Dudes are fast.
  • 1 1
@CRC Please! can we see the follow cam of Heap following Sam Hill full run.
  • 1 0
 The Dissent Mullet ????????????
  • 1 0
I always thought it was team nukeproof, not crc.
  • 2 2
Surprised to see they aren't running the new Totems.
  • 2 0
