Follow some of New Zealand’s best riders on a tour of Central Otago, in perfect weather and some stunning backdrops. From dirt jumping in Cardrona Valley, to DH runs at Skyline and epic trail riding up at Coronet Peak, the intrepid Wide Open crew took care of it all with super steeze. Featuring Conor Macfarlane, Matt Scoles and Kelly McGarry, as well as a special guest appearance from Wyn Masters. Caleb from Spoke Magazine tagged along getting some awesome still shots and Rossco Mackay getting all the live footage locked away with some creative camera work.

Whistler seems cool, but NZ looks like the place to be. Every pro rider seems to be making trips out there on the reg and i highly doubt guys like kelly who live there have any interest in moving out.

If you haven't been - do it. I make a yearly pilgrimage to Queenstown in NZ. The Skyline bike park, plus all the trails around the area, its amazing. Plus the locals are pretty friendly and its got a great relaxed atmosphere there. Queenstowns just the tip of the iceberg though, to many places to mention.

 And they've got sheep.

The biggest advantage of NZ riding is that is truly is year round. You could even do laps in Queenstown if you felt like pushing - it just doesn't snow much there.

I don't think its as good as Whistler, but it could well be the best place to ride during the northern hemisphere winter

Not compared to "snowy" places in the rest of the world. Does the lake there ever really freeze over?

I feel like there is a rule in NZ stating that every jump, berm and trail has to be just perfect, because thats what all those trails were, positively cherry

Great to see Matt Scoles... Easily one of the fastest racers NZ has ever produced but so underrated. His last European season (For an Italian Trek team who's name currently eludes me) was so successful, it was a crying shame he didn't get a full WC ride out of it. He won pretty much all the Italian races he entered and was top 20 or better in all the WC rounds he entered that year as well. I so thought he was going to get named on the Trek World Racing team for the following year when Justin Leov retired but it wasn't to be... Frown

Sweet to see the North side of the Crown Range getting some props for a change. Pedal or Die to DD is so damn fun.

What's potential? My teacher reckons I've got it, but I don't think I do.
