Video: Technical & Exposed Alpine Ridge Line Riding

Nov 3, 2020
by StefanEberharter

Cleaned Episode #3 is online! This time it's about doing an exposed ridge line and technical alpine riding in general. I hope you like it!

Last winter when I had an injury and couldn't do any riding I learned how to do simple edits and so the idea came up to do this series. I am still learning a lot about film making and I try to get better with every episode, so I would love to hear what I can do better for the next ones. Let me know in the comments!

Moments before the sunrise
After we spent the night in our sleeping bags directly at the top, we were there in time to enjoy the sunrise. Priceless!

The tricky part directly after the top

The tricky part directly after the top. Took me some tries till I could do it nicely and without too many correction hops.

My POV
My point of view during the most difficult part, which looks more like a trials section than a mountainbike track.

Love the view up there
I really love the view up there. It was definitely worth to be there very early to have this peaceful and calm atmosphere in the early morning.

Making my way down the ridge
Making my way down the lower part of the trail. Less technical but still exposed.

I guess that explains how I can never seem to get on the best line.
  • 12 0
Yep, beats all the top 10 easy!

Good for him,,, I will pass on that line 100%
  • 1 0

3 easy steps to quick income:

1) Place hunk of coal in pooper.
2) Watch this video.
3) Remove diamond from pooper.

 CLASSIC!!!
  • 4 0
 That was gold!
  • 10 0
Well, that sucks. I didnt find any diamond.
  • 8 0
I got a squished canary instead.
  • 7 0
Is the diamond hidden in the soft part because I'm not seeing it....

I love how the mountain bike can be enjoyed is such diverse ways. Tech lines, Downhill, Trail, XC, Bike Packing, Freeride, and etc... our sport is RAD!

 Agreed!

that's what the trails in our backyard like like. We have to adapt our riding style. well, he took that verrrry seriously. respect!

That's not a trail. Aren't those markers for rock climbers?? Wow.

-what trail?
  • 1 0
@rrolly: Those are conventional labels on Alpine trails.
  • 1 0
 @milkdrop: exactly
  • 2 0
@milkdrop: but be aware that "conventional alpine trail" can sometimes encompass lower grade climbing and/or massive exposure...

ill just assume that this guy isnt using a gopro because this is clearly the best line

@thg80: Stefan got robbed! This is definitely in the top 10, in fact its at the top of the top 10.
  • 3 0
@danielstutt: I haven't seen the other submissions, but maybe this isn't sensationalized enough. The km drop-to-flat isn't that palpable, and rider is strangely calm. Based on 1:33, video could have been called 'Remote Austrian-Italian Border Crossing with Stefan'. His day job could be bomb squad.
  • 1 0
@danielstutt: I agree - Stefan got robbed - watched all other entries and he would have - in my opinion - easily should have made the cut

Amazing that this doesn't get Best Line nominated, but some blokes can lock up their rear brakes and skid down an alpine tundra for a nominatino.
  • 13 0
 Your mom must hate these
  • 9 0
"We are just trying to adapt our riding style to our local trails" Hahaa! Understatement of the year
  • 9 0
Can someone get me a change of pants?
  • 9 0
Is there a classification above "Pro Line"? That's what it looks like.
  • 8 0
 Tripple Black Diamond?
  • 1 0
@Zany2410: Yeah, thought about this... Wink
  • 3 0
 I'd say "No Line"
  • 8 1
And I thougth all the guys on liteville bikes have no balls because they are eaten by the suspension design. He cleary has balls.

 golden! Big Grin

This is the kind of dude that will ride down Everest one day. I would not be comfortable walking what he just did with a bike.

this is the first time i've ever watched a mtb video and thought "i hope he's wearing a flying squirrel suit and a parachute-you know-just in case..."
  • 6 0
New meaning to "It's lonely at the top" Now I know why.
  • 5 0
If trails in my backyard look like this, i would sell my bike and buy a parachute.
  • 8 4
Beautiful and very impressive, but is the risk on this one worth it? Stay alive out there
  • 4 0
someone should have told this guy that there was a contest for a ride like this. oh well!
  • 3 0
Incredible skills. I thought for a second that his namesake - Stephan Eberharter of ski racing fame - had suddenly decided to try his hand at mountain biking in his fifties.
  • 2 0
me too, I was imagining some grizzled brick sh!thuse of a dude doing flow trails or something on an ebike.
  • 1 0
I'd have voted for this POV in the GoPro Best Line contest! Great video...such accuracy required when there is that level of danger, essentially on the knife-edge. Wouldn't like to fall from there, that's for sure! Now I'm gonna look for episodes 1 and 2 !!
  • 4 0
risk vs reward scale is off the charts.
  • 5 1
I get the same feeling when watching base jumping videos, should we really support this?
  • 2 0
That was insane, 2 seconds after he sets off he's straight into a do or die manoeuvre. Very impressive skills, I would struggle to even walk this trail.
  • 3 0
 Why? Why?
"just because you can does not mean you should" - Jeff Goldblum in Jurassic Park.
  • 2 0
Wow, you made that look waaay to easy! Such delicate tire placement and shifting of body weight... insane!
  • 2 0
Is he member of the "Vertriders"? They ride similar stuff on Liteville bikes.

  • 1 0
Wow! great video. Love riding exposure but that was way more than I'd be comfortable with. Amazing.
