Radio Bikes' prototype frame and freecoaster hub (that allows you to ride backwards without backpedaling) get a full workout from Niklas Tilk.

bigquotesNext level Freecoaster madness from Radio Bikes team rider Niklas Tilk who’s currently riding our prototype MTB Freecoaster hub and Griffin Pro aftermarket frame which will both be available early 2020. This hub is super light, has a larger adjustable slack setting and uses our own internal system which has huge strength advantages over a traditional clutch style Freecoaster hub.Radio Bikes

 Incredible bike control.
25 years ago I used to ride flatland BMX and my friend (who was better than me) was trying to tailwhip bunnyhop. I questioned if it was even possible at the time but nowadays they are thrown down so easily - even with 26 inch wheels.

In the midst of broken swingarm controversy, this video flew under the radar. Amazing riding.

uhh what just happened? I haven't even seen a manny to 3 on an mtb before and he popped one out of a down facing transition... I'm guessing we're going to start seeing manny to 3's in slopestyle after this. Best park rider I have ever seen on an mtb hands down

 Damn that was good!

I can't wait to throw a coaster on my gyro-equipped Dartmoor Ghetto. The only style of riding I like cassettes for is dirt. For everything else coasters feel way better.

A MTB disc brake 135mm freecoaster already exists. KHE Bikes had the Geisha a few years back. I had one for awhile, but didn't like how squishy it felt.

Profile has one too. Bmx has had them for years. It's not a new innovation, it's that they are pretty expensive. Hopefully this one works well and is cheaper.

Seriously insane amount of bike control. Never seen so many different combo's on a tiny little wedge.

What was the artist and song name in this video?

I need to know this also. Lots of folks in the YouTube comments on this video are asking the same thing. I tried to Shazam it and also Googled the lyrics, but no dice. And isn't that Notorious BIG at about 1:18? If its not, its his audio doppelganger.

I've loved hip hop music my whole life. And have never seen seen an action sports video where it hasn't been total shit as the soundtrack.

 HipHop Anonymous?

Ehhh kind of a garbage take. So many skate (and bmx) vids out of NYC and San Fran have dope soundtracks comprised mostly of hip hop. www.youtube.com/watch?v=NBky7peIVUg&feature=emb_title

GX1000??!?!?

Also in snowboarding like any JP walker part back in the day got me hype. Might not age as well as some of the classics, but at the time it was fire.

@jds0912: So you're saying that song with that video is a "... garbage ... fire."

Totally agree!

@jds0912: maaaan, when walker and walsh were on forum! those were the days!

@fruitsd79: you give him all the easy ones!

 But can he even barspin?

So glad I clicked on this

What exactly is the science behind freecoaster?
  • 3 0
Its basically a clutch between the driver and the hub body. One clutch plate is fixed to the hub body and the other is screwed onto a coarse thread mounted to the driver. When the wheel turns backwards but the pedals don't move, the plates move apart as the inner friction surface is driven outwards along the coarse thread until the clutch disengages and that allows the wheel to spin independent to the driver. Pedalling forward will force the plate back along the thread until it engages the outer friction surface at which point the wheel can be driven by the pedals again.

Not Scientific as such, clutch type or are other type like a fixed gear, but driver unscrews allowing coasting, screws back in to pedal again

@petehaddock: cool! I will check that out! Thanks
