Goddamn, I love slow-motion of real race footage. None of that $#!tty YouTube crap showing the same thing again and again from different angles. This is real racers in the midst of it all. Great fun.

Interesting that the Athertons weren’t front and centre this year. Understand that Rachel is expecting and Gee is out with a massive injury (heal up soon) but no Dan in any of the coverage I’ve seen. What’s the deal?

Affy is never in the spotlight. Not his style. He's a digger not a media man.

 Sick video, thanks

Oh my gosh I love bikes

I'd love to see this as a real WC race. Could be pretty interesting to see how some of the "simple" tight single line areas could be raced. It'd give Kerr a good shot at a proper podium, and it would be cool to see a flat out scary big world cup course. Make it happen UCI!

Watching those FOX forks fully compress then regain composure in slowmo is very satisfying!
  • 4 1
Watching any fork in slow-mo is satisfying (probably not a suntour XCM)

Laurie Greenland for the next to play the Joker!

those top 5 runs are so freaking fast, its mindbottling

Awesome event! Great to see there were no mayor injuries. Also great to see Gee chilling in the pit (6:1Cool heal up soon!

Just a quick question: if you're riding one of the most intense and challenging DH tracks, why you're not using elbow pads?

Pinkbike , based in Squamish Canada. No coverage of the Canadian Downhill championship that happened last weekend. But non stop coverage of a Red Bull invitation only event in the UK.
  • 29 3
bro, the canadian dh champs were covered. only cost me $3 to read it.

i'm actually tired of that joke, but have been offline for a couple weeks and couldn't help myself.

Got to keep the sponsors on side. Keep drinking the stuff

Hardline > Anything else that happened last week
  • 2 2
@Dnik: there was some proper racing round the world but not sponsored by a drinks company

That green Propain Rage is so sick.

 Infuriating slowmo

 Why aren't there women riders?
  • 2 0
i wonder if no women would ride it, or if not enough would to have a separate class. for the record, i def could not ride this.

Probably for the same reason you dont see every Pro male DH racer and his dog competing. Its freakin gnarly, and its just a reality that there are no female pros hitting lines like this. As an event, Red Bull Formation still is not in the same league as this. I'm sure there are some women out there who would be keen to try it, but they would have a hard time being noticed in the months leading in order to get the call up.

@Lloydmeister: it can’t be that gnarly if you can race it on an enduro bike.

With triple clamp forks , downhill tyres ,170 mm coil shock .
Proper Enduro bike that . @CM999:

@flyingfox49: everyone complained when Graves did that at a WC DH said it proved the course was too easy and not worthy of WC race
  • 4 0
You’re not seriously comparing Hardline to Pietermaritzburg @CM999:
  • 1 0
And whoever said it was ever going to be WC race . Only the top 30 riders could even attempt it and most of those probably wouldn’t if the course was wet @CM999:

No digg against the ladies.... You show me any of the the top lady riders that can land hits that big... Not once or twice at a jam... Or a freeride comp. But consistently.... Hitting features that big at those speeds..... There are none in the planet. That why there is no women racers at Hardline. It's not a sexist thing.... It's literally a skills thing...
  • 3 0
I was replying to CM999 who seems to think it wasn’t such a hard track , lol
Totally agree it’s nigh on impossible for females to carry the speed to be able to clear the features@OlSkoolJake:
  • 2 0
@CM999: Aggy did Rampage on a similar bike (with less travel), is that event not hard enough either?
  • 1 0
@flyingfox49: show me any female rider hitting a feature as big as something on Hardline. And not just a one and done send... I'll wait.
  • 1 0
@flyingfox49: sorry. I see we are in agreement. I miss read what you wrote.

Paywall. J/k. It’s the same reason women live longer. They make better life choices. Ever notice fail Friday is about 99.99% male riders?
  • 1 1
@flyingfox49: I’m just pointing out that the last time a dh was raced on an enduro track everyone said it proved it wasn’t a proper dh track. I’m not making comparisons just quoting the pb comments
  • 1 0
@flyingfox49: most of whom didn’t want any part of it
  • 2 0
 Don’t get your point tbh.
You’re comment says if it can be ridden on an “enduro frame “ it’s not gnarly enough .
But then again you’ve dissed the whole event from the start .@CM999:

Another enlightened comment from CM999 on the track walk article: "That’s because hardline doesn’t matter to anyone. Let’s face it most of the top pro riders don’t go anywhere near it. It’s a pr stunt".

It's about pushing the limits of riders and their bikes. Just because you don't see the value of the event, doesn't mean it's not important to the competitors or other mountain bikers.
  • 1 0
@usedbikestuff: i think last Friday actually featured a few ladies failing.

@mammal: no it’s not it’s a pr stunt to sell drinks. If it has any real merit then the top riders would all be there. But they aren’t because they want to win world cups which do matter. I’m glad you enjoyed the show
  • 2 0
@CM999: Yes, we all know it's put on by Redbull. So is Rampage, and world cup riders attend that event too. A quick look at the rider list shows 8 Elite UCI DH riders there. You don't think they're interested in winning world cups? It's laughable how you just ignore that this is the most difficult race course out there, and only focus on who puts on the event.
  • 1 0
Because women are way too smart to ride a course like this. It's almost too gnarly. Just watching it I feel uncomfortable.
  • 1 0
@OlSkoolJake: surely rachel could ride/has ridden this?
  • 1 0
@therevfryslim: if memory serves me I don't think she has ridden the full course. Probably bits and pieces of the original course. I could be wrong. I think her reasoning is, everything technical is no issues anyone could ride those bits. Male or female. It's the size of the jumps and drops, and the relative physical strength pull them and to hold on, without blowing up. As much as I would live to see a women's category for Hardline. I think the risk vs reward is to high for the female riders. What they need is a ladies version. Similar to what Formation is to Rampage.
  • 1 0
Seeing the difference in the women’s downhill times compared to the men’s , usually 30/40 seconds slower. It’s pretty clear how they couldn’t possibly clear the obstacles in the current format @therevfryslim:

 @OlSkoolJake: this makes sense Smile
