The 2021 Red Bull Rampage practice is well on its way. After a week of teams dialling in their lines, it's time to figure out how to impress the judges on their runs.
F ya'll dissing throwing down with a bs or whip is pussy shit. LOL Bring it on brah these are guys f ing insane.
Riding a single crown to a speaks to a riders ability.
@vinay: sorry not feeling it after a quick listen. thinking more, killswitch engage - my last serenade. tho yeah they could have at least picked something off the nwd song list. anyways hopefully they’ll have a full explanation for the chosen “soundtrack”
@robdpzero: Yeah, Carcass is youth sentiment for me. They've been pretty relevant to the scene yet unfortunately often misinterpreted. If one is looking for more of a groove, Machine Head may be a nice suggestion. They just turned 30 this year so having one of their tunes up there would be a nice celebration. I've only got their Burn My Eyes album but of course they've released a good bit after that.
Can RedBull open up an additional wildcard spot for Rampage each year to be filled at random by a PB commenter? I'm picturing the wildcard winner would read their comments about Rampage being 'soft' or 'too manicured' into the mic right before dropping in for their run.
We need a "Rampage Academy" show. 5 episodes in different classic freeride locations: Hanksville, Green River, Bartlett Wash, etc. Season finale in Virgin. Winners qualify for Rampage or Formation.
How about this, bring back the Ultimate Freeride Challenge but instead of a cash prize from online submissions, the top 4 riders compete at 4 different locations that are truly the classic freeride locations....
1. Farwell Canyon 2. Kamloops 3. North Shore 4. Virgin at the original Rampage site
@scott-townes: Correct me if I am wrong, but they aren't able to hold rampage at the old site because it is BLM land, the land needs to be state owned in order to obtain a permit?
@Greener43: You're right, frigg it move it to one of the multiple Rampage sites that's all on the same private land. Either way, gotta hit up all the legendary freeride spots.
@Greener43: I don't know if it still does, so much has been built up and previous massive lines/hits from 15 years ago are still there and are rideable with a slight touch up. I mean highschool kids are hitting the Bender Sender now like its nothing and Zink's line from Where the Trail Ends linking up Super Ts drop into flipping the Sender... I'm not sure what else can be made original from there or how to top it. Its like a museum though, its so cool to explore and ride. Perfect proving grounds though.
@scott-townes: I was just thinking Utah for logistics, plus there's good diversity (in the terrain, not people obviously). Could probably work a sponsorship with Utah tourism board -- making permitting easier.
Crazy how little footage of Brage there is. Seems like he's still out there doing a lot of digging because he's not using that much off other folks lines.
Really looking forward to his run partially because I have very little clue wtf he's doing besides smashing down the side of the mountain.
was thinking the same thing... also wondering if because it's his first year he doesn't realize how much you need to partner or use old lines to create new stuff and his line may not be quite finished or all that great because it just takes so much time?? Has happened to a couple people in the past... who knows it might be insane... we'll see I guess.
This is so sloperide it’s like freestyle but more like freeslope in stylish riding sort of way. I totally hate it but am in love with it. I am also pro ebike but anti motor, I think everyone should get assistance with pedaling but hate pedal assist. Rampage should be an uphill only event.
I’ll say this much Slopefest or not Rampage is Badass The amount of good quality video coverage from this years event have been pretty spot on in my book (w/the exception of Ole BRAge whos prolly just hold’n out on us for the mac daddyiest f%#kin.Viking Shreadfest well ever witness ,in our lives) So much good PB comment section drama allready too Yeeeeew lets git it f^%#kin Rampage How you wana make it how you wana
Havent really payed much attention to Rampage this year, but watching this it didn't feel like riding in the desert at all,can anyone at least spot a bit of dust on the air? Not hating, but this doesn't seem to be the right way for Rampage IMO.
@nozes: What do you mean "the right way"? Do you expect the organisers to magically change the weather? It's been raining there so the dirt is packed and less dusty. It's that simple.
It’s amazing how the music can make an edit memorable or in detract. One memorable one that jumps to my mind is Danny Macaskill’s 09 Inspired bike edit with the song The Funeral blending with the sound of his free hub and bike impacting, perfect. Anyone have a favourite?
What comes to mind first for me is Brage's real MTB clip, music really matches the vibe well without being distracting, and the cuts/silent parts match up very satisfyingly.
I second the MacAskill-edit! Further i remember the "Remy Metaillier burns Whistler"-edit and a veery well fitting hiphop-track. Oh and Semenuks unreal oneshot with Buffalo Springfields "For What It's Worth".
Run-outs look so much longer and more groomed this year. Kind of turned into a giant slope event with big rowdy drops? More than spectacular nonetheless.
DAF.
Huge sends
Gnarly lines
Watched the Viking on Hard line. He brings some great character to the show.
Would be cool if a few Canadians made the podium. Could happen .
Holy Comments! Nice to see people getting stoked on the BIG show. Can't wait to watch the replay after work but need to avoid any social media, etc to avoid spoilers.
Is anyone else feeling like the damage they're doing to that hill is a little excessive meow? Not enjoying seeing so much bike park being stamped into that zone.
Heck, I like a well groomed run as much as the next guy, and of course rider safety is super important for doing the big tricks that have become de rigueur at Rampage, but I'm half expecting Nino Schurter to show up any minute to show us that Rampage could be ridden on an XC bike..... now that would be some Edit.
Pinkbike Academy and Pumptrack World Champs coming up. Just finished Sea Otter, Grim Donut, new SJ Evo, etc... half the team is at Rampage and the other half is making their way up to Pemberton for our Fall Field Test.
*thrusts fist into the air
Standing at the edge of that drop is freaky!

I'm quite sure he has a series of tricks set up for that drop depending on weather, scores and flow.
I'd venture to guess that it'll end up being something like a whip to bar, flip whip or a 360/whip... oppo.
Either way... it's going to be a game changer and I think we'll see folks bring 2 bikes next year.
More than spectacular nonetheless.
Brage...
Not complaining, but there is basically only rampage content right now. Are there really no other things happening?
