Complains about someone passing him for 150th position, then yells at everyone in front of him for being too slow.
  • 15 6
I'm pretty nearly everyone would do a bit of that.
  • 28 1
Haha, ya, it's funny because that guy that passed him (Charlie Brown) that he complains about... was the same guy just a few mins earlier that he had did the exact same thing to (running with his bike underneath him while everyone is stuck in a big line of riders).

Human Nature, Or my brakes were boiling up and it went on for some time?

"some people fighting for 150 millionth..." I'm going to adopt that if you don't mind.

I suggest everyone watch this clip, Connor Macfarlanes (dude who Ben almost kills behind he snowbank) and Ratboys clip. 3 seperate angles of the carnage.
  • 2 1
Anyone know the vertical of this race in meters or feet? Has to be bonkers.

@the-deakinator: just watching the footage made me rage. tell me you passed the bloke in the black and yellow zig zags, don't even know the guy, probably a lovely bloke, but wanted to see him flip off a cliff.
  • 5 1
This is like the road warrior of MTB. You see everyone stoked on top, then after a couple crashes, 1000's of meters it turns to gets dafuk outta my way.
  • 2 0
 @fecalmaster: start 3330 m finish shy about 850 m. Circa 20km long. Massive fun!
  • 2 0
My forearms hurt just thinking about that.
  • 2 0
 @fecalmaster:
My Strava recorder 10500 to 2300 feet, so you do the math on that, one thing I'll tell you, half way thru it, the armpump is painful as fk
But at the same time so rewarding
  • 2 0
 3327m/720m @fecalmaster:
  • 2 0
Wow, that's as redicilous as the video shows. I know a thing or 3 about arm pump but that's on some next level.
  • 3 0
@fecalmaster: I honestly lost about 60 places at the end due to arm pump. Actually had to pull off the track and shake it off for a min.
My maguras have now been binned back to saints. They stopped working halfway down
  • 3 0
@the-deakinator: brave to broadcast your rants on the way down. I called someone a f*cking prick and regret it, just garbage mouth in the heat of battle. Didn't think the train was too bad this year, no one stopped on the rock gardens.
Lucky for me had a clean run down the glacier....88kph!.... But on the flat bit
Nice and quick at the end well done pal
  • 1 0
@fecalmaster: its fine. just let go off the brakes Wink done it twice going again next year!
  • 1 0
@maddiver: Not too worried , I just don't like riding in crowds down the say trail unless we are getting mad Max with it.
  • 1 0
 @fecalmaster:
Think it's about 2700mtrs
Starts at 3300mtrs ends at 600mtrs

Years from now, aliens will look to this event to try to explain how humans drove themselves to extinction

This looks just like the Brooklyn bridge during rush hour bike traffic in the morning.
  • 3 0
@fecalmaster: Biking across the BK bridge during rush hour is like playing Dirt 4 on Pro. You better come prepared. Imagine a road race combined with 4cross. Makes biking in the car traffic feel like a cake walk.
  • 40 0
Looks like one of those racing games you played as a kid, where you never bothered to brake, or practice... you just sent the car bouncing right off the walls in every turn
  • 27 0
Shame there was no masters category for you to sandbag in Smile
  • 3 0
 Hahahaha
  • 18 0
Looks like fun. Stupid things are fun.
  • 14 2
When I did it, I realised pretty early on that my skills were lacking and the best way forward was to just sit on my butt, bike on top of me and just slide down. Worked a treat, overtook a lot of people. Did get hit by a massive snowy icy boulder in the gentleman's area...
  • 16 3
what a complaining whinny bitch. Talk about someone who cant have fun.
  • 2 4
Tell us how you really feel.
  • 4 4
See I wrote a comment complaining about his whining whilst applauding his riding skill. Yet my comment was deemed deletable by an admin. I was less harsh than this too lol. Triggered admins
  • 5 1
Yeah, I had to stop watching. Talk about taking yourself too seriously.
  • 1 0
@Freerider-Dave: it got downvoted to the below threshold section. not deleted.
  • 1 0
@jaycubzz: Ah your right, triggered people then haha
  • 12 4
This bloke is generally pretty entertaining and its good to see someone chasing their dreams with the pros.... but dude... whinging bastard at all the nutters that got better qualies than him and better line choices and luck up the top of the track!! Better luck next year pal!
  • 6 0
I will repeated again and again and again!.. This BIkeWAR deserves way more coverage and prestigious!...I mean 25 years now from this race or so... And we still not have a live coverage or a proper one!... I don t know who is fault, but please arranged it and lets see all best riders of the world on the front row!... and taking more share on Tv than the fricking roadies on le boring Tour de fraanceee!... I will race it again then and I ll get milionare!.. :d
  • 7 0
You know... that fine like between stupid and crazy
  • 5 0
Looks like all the joys of a morning commute. Yet I still want to participate.
  • 3 0
I'll watch a bunch of POV's now - love the guys who are back and charge through. Mega is the best race going on the planet - I'm 56 - I want to do it so badly before my fitness or aggression wanes too much more.
  • 2 0
I love that someone finally also shows the beautiful lower section of the race. Sure the upper section is iconic and all that. I just happened to have so much fun on the lower bits. See, I love woods and I love corners. This just went on and on and on. So much fun!
  • 4 0
That dude at 2:21 must have thought his number was up when Deaks and bike came flying past him at head height!
  • 4 0
 That dude was Conor Macfarlane
  • 2 1
wonder if you could run super low tire pressure in the snow, and then stop and nitro it back up once your out of the snow... or maybe it wouln't help or maybe its not worth it... super hairy - looks awesome
  • 1 2
Or you could just ride a fat bike or 650b+. But I don't think it really matters
  • 4 0
The glacier is about 10% of the whole race. It's super important getting a good position at the start, but having specific snow tires doesn't pay. You still have 20km of rocks, grass, dirt and roots to negotiate.
  • 11 0
It'd make no difference really, it's all technique and luck up there. Tyre pressure is so far down the list of things that matter, you'd be better off eating beans for the extra thrust.
  • 1 2
 What about running spiked/studded tires?
  • 3 0
Cable ties around your tires? Will mostly last the snow section then eventually rip off on the rocks.

Damien Oton's full length winning run

The guy at 1:27 was pinned
  • 14 1
OK, Maybe I have mental problems but in the Unior Devinci Team video at minute 18:18 'Damien' (his shadow) throws horns at a spectator. 18 is three sixes. \m/

Damien 666:666

See for yourself: www.uniordevinci.com/2018/07/12/damiens-winning-run-on-the-megavalance

HAHA leaving no cross unturned in the search for truth.

Now DV me to the depths of hell.

@endlessblockades: this is a high level shitpost. Impressive!
  • 3 0
 @brianpark:

thank you Master.
  • 6 6
The appeal of the format is beyond me, the snow part seems just unnecessarily dangerous, even if you do everything right, you can easily get wiped out by someone else. And then riding in a train on a narrow singletrack waiting for a place where you could pass the rider in front of you. I mean I'd love to do it, but I'd most probably hang back at the start and then just enjoy the ride.
  • 2 0
RIght. It's not really a race so much as it is just a fun ride. The more competitive you try to make it, the less fun you'll have.
  • 2 1
That looks like a super fun run but....It looks like you could get seriously hurt by some knuckle head crashing into you. Also, I don't think I could do that run without stopping.....that was long AF
  • 6 0
Long? That's a 15 minute video. Ben did the Mega in 49m48s!
  • 3 0
I would buy a huffy for this event... Death is certain either way, might as well save the nice rig!
  • 1 0
Did jonno say he snapped his chain?? And had a cup of tea? And had lunch? Wow oi oiii

Great vid. Did it a Few years back in the wettest conditions Known to man. Need to go back
  • 1 0
It's just Ben's competitiveness showing thru I think. I bet many riders are thinking the same thing, they just don't say it out loud. Plus, a lot of folks think they are better than they actually are.
  • 2 0
F'n crazy, I wonder what speeds the faster ones were hitting? What brakes? Haha
  • 1 0
 90kph (50mph) is not uncommon...
  • 2 1
@mtbskills: You got your conversion wrong.
  • 4 1
I yelled f..k when he had that crash.
  • 2 0
That crash looked F'd AF - I was worried he woudn't be getting up.

 fighting for that 150th million'th.
  • 1 0
I'd freaking LOVE to do that run... just without the dust and problems all of the nitwits clogging the trail in front of me. LOL
  • 1 0
The snow is also very bad if you don‘t do the first run. Driving is nearly impossible...
  • 3 0
Larry Enticer would've been proud of that crash! Just gonna send it!
  • 3 0
Fair play deakin, gnarly crash and still giving it the beans, heal up
  • 3 0
Soooo many trees with my name on them
  • 1 0
You have my inky disposition too?
  • 1 0
Fixated on that bottle from the crashed rider and didn't notice the pileup at the turn until it was too late. What an epic crash!
  • 2 0
Haha I thought it was Matt Jones but it's his twin!
  • 2 0
 ON YER LEFT CHARLIE BROWN!
  • 1 0
hahah yeah man - i got a rock (looks like everybody got a rock)
  • 1 0
I thought I heard a femur snap at 2:22, guess it was his lip splitting open. I'm tired just watching that.
  • 1 0
I haven't laughed this hard in a while. That was some funny sh%t!
  • 1 0
"left the lock out on" LoL
  • 1 0
That fork fuckered his lip up real good
  • 2 1
I think his lip crossed the line just ahead of the rest of him. I have the same problem sometimes in the mountain sun - solar herpes.
  • 2 0
@endlessblockades: Bit of a shitter aint it, First time believe it or not came up like a balloon,
  • 3 0
 Sure did

  • 1 0

  • 1 0
 Ben was 83rd.
  • 1 0
Did he say he had his lockout on the rear shock the whole ride? Ooouch!
  • 1 0
I think he said it was after one of the climbs... so not the whole race... but probably quite a bit of it!!
  • 2 0
 @ianwish:
I would want to rig up a dead man's climb switch, like have your thumb on it for climbs then it springs back open when you release.
  • 4 4
I do not understand why people do this, it doesnt look fun at all. It just looks terrifying and painful.
  • 1 0
I now have a burning desire to do that. #megavalanche2019
  • 1 0
Can we have some line choice analysis please?
  • 1 0
sooo many jackasses in the way my god!
  • 1 0
"C'mon mate, muh brakes are fuhkin' buhrnin"
