Personally I think they should keep supporting him and help him train through a full winter. Give him a shot at a full EWS series (and then we get more great videos next year)

I'm not waiting for next year! Put him on a CX bike and hit this fall hard.

@WolfRidge08: I have a feeling Scott bikes may have been thinking about something like this from start. As a Director of Sales & Marketing (not in the industry), I know from the outset of being approached with this I would have been making plans based on A: What are our next steps if he f*cking nails it... keep going, sky's the limit! B: What do we do if he shit's the bed... oh well, that was fun, next. C: D: E: F: various spin-off options depending on middle of the road performance.

If you ask me... with how well this has taken off (no matter his actual performance), PinkBike, Scott and the other sponsors would be missing a HUGE opportunity to not keep this rolling. Hell, in this day and age, if we don't market something successful into the ground we're not doing our job!
  • 2 0
 Yes, one more!
  • 18 0
Out of anything Scott spends on marketing, this series has got me to see more Scott bikes on video than anything else. I'd say its been a good return on investment, send him!
  • 2 0
@whambat: Scott already sells a ungodly amount of bikes....not where I live, but they do.
  • 4 0
Ya! One more! Pinkbike I think this is your best work. Keep it up
  • 1 0
@islandforlife: yeah Scott should come out with a new enduro platform and jump on the opportunity to support Adam on the EWS as a great marketing opportunity.

 HELL YEAH!!!!

@whambat: and don't forget they were paying Paul Bass salary after his crash. I would definitely consider Scott as my next bike.

WE WANT MORE WE WANT MORE!

@eugen-fried: as an analyst, based on this statement alone, one can see that Scott's marketing and advertising is working.

Yeah!! One more, One more please Pinkbike and the sponsors!

Quote of the series: “ahhh I’m in a hole, I’m not Sam Hill”
I’ve never looked forward to anything on Pinkbike as much as this series! Well done everybody!!!
  • 6 1
Yep. Anyone whose seen Hill ride in person will confirm this statement. Mythical and magical to watch against even the very best of his peers.
  • 13 0
Reality TV show for dudes....next we'll have a house full of priveteers who get supported for the season....you see where this is going.
  • 3 1
@Loamhuck: Why did you mention that? Now I'm dying to binge watch it after Iron Fist season 2
  • 2 1
@bizutch: i can still watch his segment from three minute gaps like a giddy mtb'er
  • 68 0
Anyone else feel like Adam's parents watching this cheering him on? couldn't be more proud!
  • 51 2
I like that his overall result didn't leap off the page because it would have made people buy into a "Work hard for a little bit. See your dreams come true quick" mentality. He busted his butt, had quality support systems, elite trainers, flawless equipment & it allowed him to make a reasonable jump forward in the standings of an event with very little training time & 1 day format where one wreck or mechanical would have ruined his goal.

Even if he'd had a year to train, his results weren't going to jump him into the top 20 and give some miracle result, which is far more realistic.

Take note kids. If you want to be a pro at anything, it's a long, hard, steady grind with lots of failures in the middle Adam failed in his mind more than he succeeded along the way, but in the end, his long term commitment to one goal paid off in a noticeable improvement.

It was worth it to hear the last comment: "That's the first time I've seen you smiling after a race!"

Great job...but can we see if can touch his toes yet?

Amen - overnight success stories are usually a long time in the making.

What was interesting is how the pro riders are being chased by the privateers. If you look at the group of riders that finished around Adam in 2017 (the ten faster or slower riders), and which also competed in 2018 (8 riders), then all accept one rider (a sponsored rider) reduced the time gap to the winner. Half of the riders had better placing while the other half dropped, but overall they came closer to the winner, but the overall average placing was the same as in 2017. Which means that the privateers in general are becoming faster.
  • 1 1
@mitochris: Now post the ages of those who faded and those who moved up. Then we really get into analysis...
  • 3 0
@bizutch: well, the average age of these 9 riders was 29. The five that improved (including Adam) were 27 years, while the losers were 33 this year. The oldest rider of these was 42 and dropped 9 places. Average drop was 22 places (mean: 13.5). BTW. In this group, Adam was not the biggest winner. Cole P. and Adam S. improved 27 and 23 places, respectively. They are 23 and 26 years or age. Adam is 28. The biggest drop was Josh Lewis, with 53 places. I assume he had a mechanical. And yes. I was bored.
  • 1 1
@mitochris: Love me some real stats like that. Dont suppose you've been around to read some of Seb's (Roots & Rain) old school track time analysis from Ridemonkey ?

The whole series was so great. Excellent job Pinkbike. Send Adam to Italia! Send his to Spain!.. Send him on the whole 2019 EWS!!!

"Stage 2 was a whole lot better" . . . . .buries clavicle into stem.
  • 8 0
This is the best series I've seen in along time! The popularity of it really shows how excited us mtbrs are about the sport and supporting our own. Sometimes we see guys like Sam Hill and racing seems impossible but watching Adam train and race is really inspiring. I am so excited to keep watching!
  • 11 0
 Congratulations! Such an improvement!

Awesome series pinkbike, but more importantly awesome job Adam. The educational and motivational impact from this series has made it my favorite. Crazy effort while still going to work. Good luck in Italy!
  • 8 0
So, "Season finale" - that means that you're going to do this again next year? And by the way, definitely send him to Italy and make a bonus episode.
  • 5 0
Video series like this make me want to buy those companies products. The ones that are willing to go out on a limb and support the no name guy and take a risk. This whole series was an absolute joy to watch. Keep it going! Send this man on a full EWS series!

Privateer 2 - Pinkbike members submit reasons why they deserve to be the next PB supported privateer. Then maybe based off where they live, use the closest brands to sponsor him. And of course, a local shop to support him. Or Pinkbike selects 10 privateer racers across the world, PB provides small sponsorships and support, then a week before whistler EWS they all get brought in. Winner gets introduced to a few guaranteed sponsors. i'll shut up now

I’m already looking forward to Seasons 3-5 when Adam starts returning the favor and training some up and coming privateers with all that he learned in the first seasons. Well, I can always hope.

Seriously, while they often tell pros and celebrities not to read the comments sections, I hope Adam does. There’s a lot of support on here for the guy.

 Wooooottt hopefully one more episode

Admit you choked up a bit during that music in the last stage before the flashback montage. Luckily I have tp next to me.

Props to pinkbike for this series, it's been awesome. I've avoided looking at full results until seeing the last episode. Great job Adam!

Some of the best programming in mountain biking. Thanks, Pinkbike! And kudos to Adam for being the guinea pig for this show. Congrats on your results!

Best thing out there recently. Been checking every day ,multiple times for this last one. Can't wait to watch another. Series really motivated me to push my rehab and get back on it. Cheers guys. More of this please????

I don't race at all and don't ride anywhere near this level so I am curious regarding start position. In downhill skiing the top guys go first and generally get better course conditions. In EWS and DH it is the opposite. With so many competitors dropping down the course aren't the conditions actually worse for the top tier guys. Do the courses get significantly more blown out between the 1st and last rider? If so, does this not make the Sam Hill's of the world even more impressive?

Props to PB - best series ever and keep Adam rolling!

Ah yeah! And a bonus episode in Italy. Well done Adam, you coped with the pressure of us living vicariously through you like a champ.
  • 3 0
@pinkbikeoriginals Bravo, that series was awesome!
Kudos to Adam, the Whistler course is no joke. We saw some heinous crashes into rocks, tree stumps.

I thought you’d forgotten about us, I was very close to having a temper tantrum after stalking Pinkbike daily!! Solid episode and result, faith restored

This series was an awesome series, and the guy in it was a champ for exposing himself like this. Congrats on meeting your goal! Like most of us, if he can get his head together he can be in the elite of the sport...but that's always the big "if", cause the physical part is rarely the issue in this 70% skill-based, 30% physical sport.
  • 2 0
Way to go Adam. Such a good series. Feels like it really taps into the spirit of mountain biking and the average guy (gal) who wants to compete and improve and see how we stack up against the best. MORE!!!
  • 1 0
I think this series is so freaking good you guys should create a kickstarter, patreon or whatever to fund upcoming seasons, I'm sure plenty of riders would donate for this masterpiece to keep on rolling!! congrats Adam!, you've gotta rip finale
  • 1 0
Fantastic series. Very cool to hear all the cheering for him on course. Hope you will keep this going. Like anything in life success is a long slog and it would be great to follow Adam as he keeps working towards the goal that we all have dreamed about.

 Stage 2 was fckin rowdy.

I watched this before Wyn's track walk, the Syndicate drop and Minnar and Shaw course preview if that's saying anything. Cathrovision nearly pulled me in first tho. Good haul PB.

 Heck yeah one more!
  • 5 7
Nothing against the Privateer serie, but this man is so boring after all.... Make privateers great again please!!!
  • 2 0
What, you want a ratboy type personality?
  • 1 1
@Bike078: Adam has raced EWS’s for years. He is fully supported, how does that make him a privateer?
  • 1 0
@MX298: franzzz above was having a go at adam's personality saying he is so boring. I disagree, and judging by the reception to this series, so do many others.

Regarding his status, was he not a privateer before this season? Correct me if I'm wrong because this is the first time I've heard of him. And was it not the point of this series to take a privateer and give him full support then see how he does?
  • 2 1
@MX298: Really!? It's the last episode and people are still asking this question... Come back when you've watched episode 1.
