Video: The World's Biggest Public Jumps? Dream Track, New Zealand

Nov 21, 2018
by Pinkbike Originals

'Dream Track' in Queenstown has some of the biggest public jumps in the world.

Originally built for New World Disorder 5, the jump line cost $5000 to build and anyone can come and ride them. Fully sanctioned, official and some hits are 50 foot in distance. Crazy. New Zealand freerider Connor Macfarlane takes us on a tour down the line, tells us the history and hits some big hucks.

Do you think there are bigger public jumps out there? Let us know in the comments.

Scary public jumps, brought to you in NZ by ACC - You break you, we fix you, for free! PS. Nice work Connor, you're a natural in front of the camera!

I think there are more injuries on green trails in the bike park than there are on Dream Track. People riding those jumps tend to know what they are doing.

@red720: heh I am pretty sure there are 1000 times more people riding green trails than these... and 99% of crashes on green trails end with a plaster. Crashes on 50ft doubles tend to end up in instagram changing experience. Or like in case of Steve Smith, career changing experience.

I love how they wrote: anyone can ride them. How about no hahahah. Flattering but no Smile

@WAKIdesigns: ...yeah, no. You just can't compare a green trail to these jumps. The Risk jumping them is 1000 times higher, but i bet the skilllevel of These guys is as well.
I can only speek of my experience. I crashed much more when i started riding, also I didn't know how to fall, so I broke a few bones on easy Trails or dirtjumps. But now i do much harder trails and bigger jumps, never ever broken something again, because you know much more about your skills and what you can hit and what you can't. And even if i Crash, I know when to hit the eject-button and how to brace myself.

But i can't get your Point with Steve, he was allways a racer, wasn't he? Never changed anything in his career. And the end of that was not due to hitting big jumps. (RIP Steve!)

@red720: "People riding those jumps tend to know what they are doing."

And then, there's me who just recovered from the last stunt...making the possible impossible. since 1990. still alive though.

@mariyo: I can definitely read from your comment that you didn’t get my point at all. I read my comment again and I am terrified to admit that I don’t know how to make it better. Sorry.

I think boomerang farm on the Gold Coast is a close second for biggest public jumps. 50ft+

 Very close second.

So rad! You def don't realise how big they are till you're there though...

Haha saw them on video back before they had been revised to what they are now, got there and hit up mini dream for a couple of days and made the hike up... took one loon at the old road gap and said Nope! Guys were having major trouble shedding speed before they ran into everyone at the bottom as Connor said on this vid. Ended up breaking my wrist there 1 month in, not the best game plan!

Safety and 50ft gap jump in one sentence.. erm.. no.. I'll just stick with my super dangerous 5ft tables... (maybe next season)

I tracked down the Dream Track in 2005 after seeing it in Spoke magazine. They where massive back then. Proper build. Designed to build your skills so you can hit those 50ft jumps. Wish I had more time to ride them. Queenstown is a bike and general fun Mecca. Go Jan. Feb. Mar. best months.

Dream has some of the best hits around, globally. Kelly McGarry loved this place. Always has a real sense of awe as you look down at what you're about to drop in to and think about what it took to build it.

It's amazing just to go and see people riding these when we're down in Q'town riding the gondola bike park.So good to see Casey and Vaea sending it. Awesome.

@BCpov: No not quite- the lips here are much steeper as well!

Maybe the whacko jumps Jordie Lunn builds in the woods near my house?

I'm pretty sure the old Rampage site and other features built around that area and in Green River or Arizona are bigger but it seems we're talking about proper dirt jumps here, not small jumps made of dirt sitting at the top of massive cliff drops/gaps. This was a sick video.

I have ridden both Coast Gravity and Dream in the last 5 months. Don't get me wrong, Coast is awesome but it has absolutely nothing on Dream. Dream are twice the length of the biggest jumps at Coast and they have much taller/steeper lips.

@BCpov: never seen these in person, but crabapple is quite a bit smaller from what I can tell
  • 2 0
@nvranka: Indeed. Crabapple is tiny compared to this.

Crabapple is what 14yr olds jump on pro lines on BMX tracks on BMX bikes. This here is yuger and these are god damn doubles.

Fest series aren't public. in Belgium at the beginning you was able to ride the line during the fest if you took your own responsibility of yourself. but they did it only one time I think. all the year the jumps are closed and not rideable. they are only shape when the fest is coming. Now it's only with invitational

@influxproductions: nowhere near comparable! dream track is HUGE. crabs is safe

You gotta take into account that Gorge Road jump is a handful of KM down the road too....and also free!
