Video: The New YT Izzo Slices Through Irish Hills

Apr 23, 2020
by James Smurthwaite

bigquotesAfter releasing an Anime to introduce the IZZO, YT has just dropped an edit showing an 'IZZO adventure' in real life. The masked rider takes YT's trail bike for a spin over Irish trails portraying the characteristics of this true short travel trail bike: Fast. Agile. Sharp. The IZZO looks to take mountain bikers up mountains, down mountains, over loamy trails, muddy trails, technical trails... All for that adrenaline rush and breath of fresh air encouraging us to switch off on home trails and adventures alike.YT Industries

 Well... Officially over hyped-up launch videos. Dark footage, fast smash cuts, longest riding clip is just 2sec of slowmo. Just tape a banana to a wall and I'll watch it turn brown in real time please and thanks.
  • 4 1
 That is most funny. *Tips hat*
  • 12 4
 YT had to slow it down so that you mere mortals could see what was happening ... those of us who ride on YT's get access to the uncut RAW footage with around 16hrs of riding.
  • 38 3
 @HairyLegs: I have certainly seen a good chunk of YT owners take 16 hours to get to the top of things... So I can believe it.
//
Pew pew shots fired pew pew!

 @TheBearDen: Both of these posts are great.
  • 5 4
 Seems like all of the YT launch videos are more about being silly than showing off the bikes potential. Not exactly great marketing...
  • 4 7
 Let's see your videos.

 @endlessblockades: you seem like a fun guy. Let's have a beer sometime.
  • 2 3
 @TheBearDen: I have a 3 beer minimum
  • 2 0
 @endlessblockades: Okay but I pick the beer.
  • 3 2
 Sorry to hear you paid too much for your bike. pew pew, shots fired!
  • 3 0
 @mountaincross: lol I see your shoots fired but unfortunately you shooting at a man who pays Cost -30% his my bikes.

*Waves hand infront of face like John Cena*
  • 1 2
 @TheBearDen: Fully expecting that reply.

So I'll rephrase...."glad to hear you pay cost for your Yeti"

(or substitute any otherwise overpriced superbike of choice here)"

blows smoke away from pistol barrel.
  • 2 0
 @mountaincross: Oh just put in "glad to hear you pay cost for your Norco Optic C2 build" Then I can reply with, hey! you forgot the 30% off cost!
//
Clear all the smoke you want home boy, you shoot like a Storm trooper... Always missing.
//
*Waves hand in front of face like John Cena*

 @TheBearDen: You pick it - you buy it. I'll drink nearly any free beer.
  • 1 1
 @TheBearDen: Umm Ok

"glad to hear you paid 30% off cost for your Norco Optic C2 build"

and

"glad to hear employees for the bike industry (and their connected friends) are supporting the bike industry by paying 30% off cost for products the rest of us overpay for" "or we buy a YT"
  • 3 0
 @TheBearDen: I don't pay anything for my bikes my ladies buy them for me because I am the boss pimp daddy
  • 1 0
 @mountaincross: u tell them
  • 1 0
 @TheBearDen: maybe they were climbing so slow to get you started on the dh trails sooner, so that they don't have to wait half an hour for you at the bottom of the trail.
"tips stetson hat like Clint Eastwood"

 lets pick a bike and be a dick about it
  • 1 0
 @thoe: this guy. This guy f*cks. Lol
  • 1 0
 @Kiwizak: okay you go first!
  • 1 0
 @mountaincross: okay big boy. You clearly aren't really "getting it" see all of us here are just having a good time and you, you are taking it a little personal.

Come back when you're ready.
  • 1 0
 @HairyLegs: I'll accept your Clint Eastwood so long as one half of you mouth is closed and the other side is like a weird showing off your teeth/ smile lol.
  • 1 0
 @endlessblockades: do I gotta come down there? Or you gonna come visit me?
  • 1 0
 @endlessblockades: Best 3 beers in order: 1. Free, cold one 2. Free one 3. Cold one
  • 2 1
 @TheBearDen: We think alike, we both found the best deal we could get on a quality product. Stop dissing DTC bike owners when you get an even better deal with your industry connections.

Clack, clack, bang bang ain't nothin but the real thang.
  • 1 0
 @mountaincross: ah Jesus still not getting it. You think because I'm a part of the industry I give two flying f*cks what bike you or anyone rides? You honestly think I'd go out of my way to actually shame someone for their bike choice?
//
I made a funny Jab about YT owners that was nothing but in good fun. You come along and f*ck it up. Like read the original post, could it be anymore satirical? Should I make sure I type it out for you that it was a joke next time?
//
Move on bud, you killed the fun. And trust me your fragility surrounding your bike choice is something you should really work on because let me explain something to you. No one on PB actually gives a f*ck, about you, your bike or anything else going on in your life. Stop thinking they do.
  • 1 0
 @TheBearDen: Ok, Ok, exiting the escalator now. Have a nice day. (I thought my original comment was pretty funnySmile

 Only works whilst standing up stomping on the pedals though?
  • 4 0
 Also works well for abrupt stops.
  • 15 1
 Nice to see a bike being ridden on the sort of trails it was designed for.
  • 13 0
 But Richie Rude rides his SB150 like that too....

 Immediately sued by JayZ. Now renamed to 5010.

 I really like the looks of the bike and have enjoyed the advertising campaign. Direct to consumer pricing isn't as attractive as it used to be though. I think if I had the budget I would get an Optic, Rift Zone Carbon, or a Trance 29 advanced and have LBS support.
  • 4 0
 I think the Izzo pricing is pretty dang good at least at the bottom end. $2999USD gets you a carbon frame, Fox 34, Fox Float, Eagle NX, G2 R brakes, DT Swiss, the remote lock thingey, and ~30lbs. I'd say that's pretty good. Of those three you listed, I'd want to go with the Optic based on the glowing reviews everyone gives it. Except its an extra $750USD for the C3. Id consider the Rift Zone, but not the trance. I think they've missed the mark on the seat tube and head tube angles. I think its a good looking bike though.
  • 2 0
 @jojotherider1977: There is a big regional difference then. It's only $150cdn more for the Norco and Marin than the YT and I think YT charges about that for delivery. My current bike is much more old school than the Trance so it looks pretty good to me. I have a GT sensor on it's way though, so that opinion will probably change.
  • 2 0
 @JayUpNorth: ahhh, possibly import duties affecting the prices here.

I actually have a Trance 3 27.5. it's a pretty fun bike tbh. It's my wife's bike, but it's a medium and fits me ok. Allows me to play around on trails a little more than my capra 29.
  • 1 0
 Pricing is pretty great when you consider full package. Look at the wheels, fork spec, cockpit, etc. going on the bike and then do comparison. You're saving at least 20-30%, which is north of 1k for these ranges of bikes.
  • 5 0
 "But there's more!!! Order now and receive a complimentary ninja face mask which not only protects you from deadly viruses, but also make you unstoppable on the trails!"
  • 3 0
 I've actually been using a YT Mob bandana that came with one of my bikes as a face mask.
  • 1 1
 @Icehawk: That's funny - the only bandana I could find was a YT Mob one signed by AG and Angel the I 'won' on the YT IG account years ago and just used it for Covid as well. Those kids have no handstyle and you could barely read the sigs so i washed it a few times.
  • 9 2
 Looks like a great gravel bike
  • 3 2
 Yeah, same thought. All this... for that? Some need a bazooka to kill a fly...
  • 6 0
 I'd increase the front travel to 140mm. A tad more enduro bro.
  • 3 0
 Anyone know if you'd be able to fit a DPX2 in there right side up? Maybe match that up with a 150mm 36 fork. I guess it would be pretty close to a Jeffsy at that point though.
  • 1 0
 @Ty927:
I don’t reckon there is room.
Yea, jeffo covers that base
  • 2 0
 Im super stoked on this bike! Waiting for more real world info before purchasing a pro race. As a guy who needs an XXL frame , I am very excited to find a good size in this bike. This will make a great companion to my 160mm travel hardtail. I live in a very steep, hilly area and have been looking for a great up hill bike that can still shred down hills.
  • 3 0
 Of course I ride like that! If you have small kids at home, going out for a ride and you hear from the living room:
"You have 30minutes before it is time to out the kids to sleep!"
  • 2 0
 Sigh. Another fine looking bike with shit NX components on it. Add another $200 to get the Microshift upgrade when the time comes. Or, you could spend hundreds more and get a proper hub and wheel combo and either go SLX or XD/Dub.

All that aside, it looks like a fun platform for trail riding and I'm glad that YT is finally entering that market with a shorter travel bike. I'll wait for an AL one though as I'm not a fan of carbon for various reasons.

 .... and there we have the first edit under corona circumstances...
  • 5 1
 Proper trail etiquette these days ... alone and wearing a mask.
  • 6 0
 well, if you're alone in the woods, there's no point wearing a mask
  • 3 3
 It would've been cool to see YT give this to a Japanese racer, and film them through the trails and deep woods of Japan, considering the anime marketing campaign. Just a missed opportunity I guess. Still a pretty good looking bike. Excited to try it out eventually once a rolling circus comes to my town.
  • 4 3
 Yeah, fo real. And they really should have incorporated a SWAT compartment into the downtube, and each bike should come pre-loaded with sushi rolls. Talk about a missed opportunity... jeez YT
  • 2 4
 @thegoodflow: It wouldn't have been hard to ship a bike to a willing rider from Japan.. Not sure the point you're trying to make here.
  • 1 0
 @Ajorda: Uhh he's making fun of you ....that's the point he's trying to make.
  • 2 0
 Looks like a sweet bike that could be super versatile, especially with a pike or 36.. However, YT videos are just a little to cheesy for me. Let’s tone it down a bit guys..
  • 2 0
 I love the new dirt collector at the bottom and the twist lock suspension. Finally something new to repair as I was running out of work..

 Ballyhoura Trail Centre.

That Oisin O Callaghan??
  • 1 0
 Looks like it. Initially thought Ballinastoe until the large flat switchback shot.
  • 3 0
 Hi Sean ,correct that its Ballyhoura but I was away in Spain at the time ,Met the crew on last day .Good fun .It was freezing here that time they came . It was the coldest it had been all winter plus the mother of all storms brewed up aswell late feb
  • 1 0
 @oisinocallaghan: nicely done. Will they be releasing a longer version of the video or are they going to stick with the “safe” edit until restrictions have been eased?
  • 3 2

 'Underwhelmed' is the only word I can think of about the Izzo.
  • 9 0
 Based on all your riding experience on a just released bike?
  • 3 1
 @felimocl: Yes... alright, no. But normally I get a bit more excited about YT bikes. This one just seems to lack something. But hey, that's just like, my opinion. I thought I was in the right place to express that?
  • 1 3
 @Pedal-Bin: Welcome to pinkbike lol. The land of the downvotes.......(I somewhat agree with you, but I really do like the bie).
  • 2 0
 @Shafferd912: Yeah you're there. The bike looks 'fine', I'm just not wowed as per their other bikes. Normally when they release a new bike I immediately think 'YES! I must haz that bike!'. Just not the case this time. I am also super worried about the mud-bucket at the bottom of the shock.
  • 2 0
 @Pedal-Bin: YT are most definitely a gravity focused branded. The Izzo is simply them making a new xc/downcountry bike to appeal to a different type of customer.

As per expressing your opinion, remember this is pinkbike. Everything you say here will be ripped into. Welcome to the club

 My local Fat Tire trail stewards would be flipping out watching someone ride on a trail that is wet haha
  • 1 0
 It’s funny, I immediately wondered if you were in GSO!
  • 1 0
 I recently moved to North Carolina. Grew up in Colorado, and I was definitely shocked at how crazy people get about not riding when it’s wet. I know the soil composition is different, but damn... Back home the best time to ride is right after a storm. Meanwhile in NC there are folks who will slash your car tires at the trailhead. Yikes
  • 2 1
 Get a bloody hardtail for God sake!
  • 1 0
 i don't really like the video...a bit too darkiiissh Love Ale's pics tho!!
