Video: Trials Wizard Jack Carthy Rides with the Hazzard Racing Crew

When Orange said "we have a guy here you have got to ride with" I was very intrigued, to say the least!

It turned out to be cycling royalty and 8 times World Trials Champion Jack Carthy, who was keen to come up and try his hand on some of our infamous trails. As you'd expect it was a massive "yes" from me and an equally massive "when can we do this?".

When Trials Legend Jack Carthy popped up to visit the Hazzard racing boys we knew we were in for a treat

A couple of weeks later Jack trucked upon with his friend Tom and we had one of the best days on the bikes in a very long time. Jack was game for anything!

The day started by riding our “Slalom” trail that winds down the hill in a deep trench-like rut. Not an easy trail to master and a keen start for Jack who is relatively new to riding a bike with suspension and relaxed angles. Unsurprisingly he mastered things in no time so we headed for something a little more challenging. The “Death Tracks”. Yep, they’re steep and loose and things can easily get out of control as team rider Lachlan demonstrated perfectly.

It didn’t take long until Jack’s wandering eyes spotted a few unrideable rocks at the side of the trail. Yep, straight up and over, no qualms, no bother. It was our turn to try and not get schooled on our home turf. Needless to say, it was impossible and showed us just how skilled Jack is on any bike. Lachlan did us proud to be fair and has a hidden talent in this area while myself and Ferg could only watch in awe.

We finished the day off with some car park skills until dark and were pretty sure we found the recipe for an excellent day out.

Thanks to Jack for making this happen. Let’s do it in Yorkshire next time, eh Jack?

Filmed on site before we knew Coronavirus was a thing about 11 months ago now. Weird how something so simple as a group pic stands out in 2020. Soon come the days we can get back to the hugs in the woods.

I have one thing to say, you can't "get some dinner in" in the middle of the day, dinner is your evening meal, you'll be meaning lunch...

@Hazzard-Racing: I was saying that with a huge portion of irony in mind. I am, too, longing for a hug between friends, loud laughs in the woods when I miss a turn and crash, sharing of a good, hot cup of tee and all the good stuff is becoming normal again.

This is a bunch of the reasons I love riding bikes..mostly just screwing around trying some sketchy lines with friends! Fun watch.

That nose pick drop in was a bit over the top eh.

Would love to see Jack on that Orange or another FS/Trail bike ripping around downtown like Danny....while he probably couldn't hang with some of the fancy backflip, front flip, 360 tail-whip drop stuff....10/10 would give him a run for his money on most of the other technical stuff and probably has an advantage when it comes to tech lines and big ups...

lachlans trials skills arent too shabby either

That looked fun. Jack seems like a skilled and positive guy to have along on a ride, made for a great video too! I couldn't quite see it clearly but was none of them using some kind of chainring protection (bashring or taco)? Messing around like this and trying new stuff is fun but having your ride cut short (or at least have your chain drop all the time) because of a bent chainring would be a bummer.

Not sure about Jack, I think he had nothing on there but all the Hazzard Racing squad had full bash plates on. For messing about like this it's a must. Like you say, that chainring wouldn't stay round for long.

It's unfair how Jack Carthy is better at trials on his Orange than I am on my trials bike XD

Those Orange bikes will forever be my dream bike, if only they were easy to come by outside of the UK

Unfortunately not caught on camera, Lachlan bunny-hopped over Jack while he was doing back wheel hops. True story.

Well, ya can't say the Hazzard stuff ain't entertaining. The back wheel to front wheel on the rock was rad, thanks Hazzard and Jack.
