Video: What Bikes Do DH Racers Ride For An Enduro Race? - Crankworx Summer Series

Jul 28, 2020
by Pinkbike Originals

How many different ways can you set up a bike? Well, it all depends on your riding background. Christina asked some of B.C.'s best downhill riders how they are setting their bikes up to race enduro in the first event of the Clif Crankworx Summer Series.

İ love the fact that finn doesn't know anything about enduro
  • 18 0
Me too haha. He's super relatable except for his unreal speed.

My favorite part is that he doesn't even want to ask if he can bring his shock pump so he can have plausible deniability if it's not allowed.

@CaMKii: the French line of tv interviews.
  • 2 4
most of them are just pretending to gain that tiny bit of media traction. peaty has been doing well with this trick for sometimes.
  • 5 1
I liked how he dodged the question on tires to get around the awkward fact he's got a DHF up front

Or bikes in general, so damn funny to watch.

Your sponsored rider is riding enduro on...not an enduro. Marketing Fail! So speshal

Makes sense that Fin doesn't know what brake "calipers" are called considering he rarely uses them. So great!

Finn is such a cruisey dude, if I was 30 years younger, a female, rode MTB, lived in Squamish and caught his eye, well, who knows.

So what you're saying is that you're into short shorts...

Except we have been raised to keep that thing below your shoulders. Christina would be serving a 2 minute minor.

@rrolly: You betcha buddy!! A real hoser move eh?

funny how everyone says the Sight's suspension design is not well suited for a coil shock... and then all the pros run it with a coil shock. are they still running 185x52.5 or what? I dont see any progressive springs here.
  • 2 0
don't know the leverage ratio of the sight but the guy at the end is running a 600# spring on his sight....that's a crazy stiff spring, maybe to overcome a lack of progression on the frame ?
  • 2 4
@Charlotroy: Well you know best... These people are only pros after all.
  • 1 1
Jokes aside the vid says they need to overstroke the shock to get a coil in.
  • 1 0
@Charlotroy: its just a high leverage frame so it needs the higher spring rate than a bike with a longer shock.
The frame has some progression but not loads so coils just about work and there are progressive coils available if necessary.
  • 1 0
@Solozime: Yeah but they overstroke the X2 to get the travel too. 55mm vs 52.5mm stroke on RS
  • 1 1
@Crampagnolo I recently went over to coil on my sentinel which has even less progression than the Sight and i've been loving it, even without a cascade link. Maybe its because these high leverage bikes feel super supple off the top. I don't really get how these guys deal with the rebound of such heavy springs though when they don't weigh all that much.
  • 1 0
Yeah well the Stumpy isn't supposed to be great with a coil either but they sell one with a coil and Finn rides with one so maybe it doesn't make all that much difference?
  • 1 0
@PaulieAU: What I have read, they do cut down the 55mm on the X2 with a 2.5mm travel reducer.
  • 1 0
@Charlotroy: "The leverage rate goes from 3.2 to 2.6, a change of 18.75%" from the "first ride" here on PB. That seems like enough for a coil to me. I think the team only run 185x55 because RS don't appear to make a 185x52.5 coil.

Interested in this topic because I've just bought a Sight.

 Is Christina racing?

did i miss something or are almost all of them now riding an enduro race on a trail bike? (so enduro bikes are now just what freeriders were?!?)
  • 1 0
Since when are trail bikes 140mm to 170mm?
  • 1 0
@shredjekyll: whyever, on 29ers they stopped differentiating the trail from enduro bikes by travel... Anyway, listening to the video they call their bikes mostly trail bikes...
  • 3 0
Yeah Seth! Go get 'em on the trail bike bud.
  • 1 0
No tokens hey? The bois must be running the Luftkappes, hence the high psi and forks progression. No one would expose that little secret I guess Wink

Love how Finn turns up like he has no idea what he's doing there or what a bike is then goes out and wins Smile
  • 4 1
They have whatever someone sent them.
  • 3 0
It seemed like the seat was crooked on the first bike.
  • 2 0
maybe yoann is not the only one with three balls that affect bike setup

@christinachappetta missed opportunity to have a downhill word counter on screen! I stopped at around 20 something

Maybe their mechanics should speak for them.....
  • 2 0
 what norco bikes are those?
  • 1 0
Its the new sight, custom paint.

They look sick. I wonder how they'd feel with these setups at Whistler bike park for the jumpy stuff like a-line, dirt merch, freight, etc
  • 1 0
@anchoricex: I have the A2 in purple and its a beast of a bike. It absolutely rips, its long though and took awhile to get used to but is super stable. It is a great bike for my local bike park with decent sized jump lines, nothing like a line though.
  • 1 0
@btkindsvatter: you ever run a coil on it like these guys are doing?
  • 1 0
@anchoricex: No i haven't, but have been really curious. I have found the stroke of the sight is really progressive and i didn't really want coil due to the lack of progression it has. But since they're racing it, I am quite curious.

Is Finn riding the slacked out Stumpy or the normal one?

it's hideous. I guess it's an 29er with an XS frame cause the wheelbase looks tiny, like something you'd get free with a mcdonalds happy meal
  • 1 0
@markcorrigan: Trek kinks the top-tube on the S and XS frames to achieve a lower stand-over height for smaller riders. It does look pretty ugly though.
  • 1 0
@Xonky: that makes sense. The colour scheme is awful too which doesn't help. Ah well, each to their own I guess.
