The French Downhiller won the 2015 and 2016 event back to back and after 7 years he has made his grand return to Crankworx Rotorua with a gold medal finish at Rockshox Taniwha Downhill.— Crankworx
Jess Blewitt snagged her first pro World Tour gold with a top finish at Rockshox Taniwha Downhill. In 2020 she won the junior category of Crankworx Rotorua Downhill and this year she certainly cemented herself amongst the pros.— Crankworx
Loic was expected but Neko sending it on his run and holding onto the box for 16 riders was cool to see. Basically Rocky vs Drago in terms of budget and support.
They did a few interesting things with the coverage: - Drone footage. Agreed, this has to be part of the future, where terrain allows - Picture in picture. A split view on occasion that showed a replay in a small window, while the live feed continued in a larger window - Plenty of the course covered. Still had about a minute missing from the top section (seemed to happen in the WC DH last year), but good covered elsewhere. Except one corner where someone (?) crashed and we missed it because... blind spot
@highland-hippie: Yup, when they announced the extra coverage I wasn't expecting much but this was an insanely good event with good coverage. I cannot wait for the other stops. Screw Discovery.
Looks like they got some custom covers on that new demo. I bet he just runs it like that forever, like the shock cover on his old one, and we never actually see what's going on under there.
@Brasher: Looks ready for a long dropper and a motor. Seat angle doesn't look very slack for a DH bike either. It wouldn't surprise me if specialized has a motorized version in mind.
You can really tell Redbull has the "A-Team" working the broadcast now. Night & day difference! Camera work & of course Rob Warner & company are much better than the old broadcast crew .. no comparison.
Awesome track, awesome footage, awesome commentary. If they could bring this level of track design and coverage to the whole DH circuit we'd be in for a treat.
The best part of the track is the minute plus that wasn't on camera. It is a technical track, drops roughly 400m vert. Please come and ride it, at pace, in the mildly damp. Please also jump the 18m gap jump so we can all go "wooooo..." for you.

An electronic lockout for that covered suspension?
