Video: Yoann Barelli Climbs Double Black Diamond Trail in Whistler

May 19, 2020
by Yoann Barelli

WOW!

What a personal challenge and test that was!! Probably the best way for me to conquer my fears after injuring my knee last year doing the same stuff. Sorry for the swearing everyone.

I don't know if I can say I climbed this thing but I tried my best!

I kinda like these challenges. For me this is what mountain biking is all about - challenging yourself, not just physically, but also in terms of skills.

Hope you will enjoy it!!

Love

Yo

Alternate title: "Frenchman air-humps bike in the woods while screaming".

On a completely unrelated note, my parents now think I'm watching French gay porn since I had the volume on.

Commencal Pogo stick. You should get one. You're a beast Yoann. Well done man.

Feel the burn after watching him straight up hop his way up the B line. I can now skip my workout for the day.

Who needs a chain when you can hop on the way up and coast on the way down?
  • 8 1
not trying to start a wheel debate war but if he used an older commencal like the meta hip hop on 26inch wheels it would have been much easier to hop up. These 29er bikes look a bit too big. granted they roll over stuff better but if its as technical as this and you have to hop up that would be my call. That said massive respect for even trying this and he got over bits i was like....that aint happening...lol well done.

Friend of mine who's quite handy at tech riding/climbing like this stands by his thought that a 26er hardtail is the best bike for Slickrock in Moab.

Is riding "No girlie man" in reverse called a "Manly woman" ?

 Yoann, you should try rock climbing;
All that swearing and frustation when you fail mid climb, but accompained with a few meters of free fall and slight fear for your life. Good stuff, I'm telling you.

Ondra better watch the fuck out

 I love the tree dabs
  • 15 0
Only ground dabs count haha! I salute that resolute rider who will hug a tree still clipped with their bike hanging off of them to avoid having a dab counted.
  • 3 0
@50percentsure: totally! if the feet are on the pedals you're still good.
  • 6 0
Ya I never count tree dabs.

Time for a Yoann Barelli + Jeff Lenosky crossover.
  • 6 0
He needs to ask Commencal to build a trials frame so he can get up this trail!

I thought you had your lesson after blowing up your knee trying to climb sketchy stuff not meant to be climbeb
  • 3 0
I thought he blew his knee coming off a wet log ride attempt. This, this was determination as only Yoann can bring.
  • 2 0
@gnarterrorist: he blew his knee going reverse direction trying to climb on some old wooden feature
  • 1 0
 Clipped in too!

Dan Swanstrom built that trail. Local legend and character built River Runs Through It and most of the no flow zone too.

Man, the distortion from that lens gave me a headache. Great tech climbing though, awesome seeing yoann go back into the gnar...

That was good...actually found that more interesting than watching the descent. Some serious fitness, strength and skills involved with that.
