Video: Yoann Barelli, Remy Metailler & Steve Vanderhoek Ride An Insane Line in Pemberton, BC

Apr 9, 2021
by Yoann Barelli

Yoooooooo everyone!!

A couple of weeks ago as I was fixing the berm at the bottom of the Cop Killer chute in Pemberton, I spotted a cool line. A few days later Steve Vanderhoek came for a ride and I showed it to him. We spent some time adding big boulders to make a nice a solid landing. I came back on my own and did more work in the chute and the run out and boooooom, 2 days ago, Remy Metailler, Steve and I went and sent it and Steve's his girlfriend photographer Kelsey grabbed the shot!!

Best feeling ever. This line is quite intimidating at first, but man, what an amazing feeling hahaaaaaaaaa!!!

So good.

The rest of the video is me riding down the trail, to make you discover the beauty of Pemberton's riding!

@Boughey: just got their money's worth here!

This freebie stuff seems to suit Yoann so much more than EWS

Yoann is a beast. Awesome to see these experts ride and use so much caution but holy smokes, that end part was quick. Thanks for all of the videos and Yoann, bring your dog back :-)

Rode cop killer on the weekend. There were almost 10 people stopped at the chute looking at this line in awe. Absolutely bonkers.

And I thought my brake levers were flat. People think my brake lever position is flat but Yoann’s are another level. I do have to say though that a slightly flatter brake position offers a lot of confidence. In my opinion.

Put your bike in a repair stand with the front end down to where the rear wheel is over the top of the front wheel. Now the levers aren’t flat anymore. That’s how steep the trails are they are riding.

Does the increased confidence come from the added balls cable tension?

 @robito 2 baguettes and a Tim Horton's?

No offense to Steve, dunno if he's a Canadien or what. Love these three just out riding as friends, just like all of us with our crews, minus the steep lead in, 2 baguette drop to an off camber landing kinda stuff.

All that AND a water bottle. The dream is alive.

I see Steve and Yoann are both sporting NF gear, nice to see a locally made product getting some recognition, I have their pants and I'm very impressed with them, going to try some of their shorts if they ever come back in stock.

Seriously big-balls riding by these guys. Is there actually any easy trails in Squamish or is it just a total gnarfest?
  • 8 0
 Squamish sucks. Don’t go.
  • 3 1
The trail in this vid is Pemberton... which is arguably more gnar on average than Squam. Squamish has all levels of trails, but the videos where you're stuck behind a newbie on an ebike on an intermediate trail wouldn't be as entertaining.
  • 2 0
@nicoli: sounds like a "friendly" place for newbies. i think i'll stick to Wales.
  • 2 0
@slow-af-rider: Squamish (not where this video was taken) has trails for all levels. As does Pemberton, as does North Van and everywhere. These videos are just top level riders outdoing themselves for sponsor views and their own love for stepping it up.

Squamish is probably your best bet for many more easily accessible trails. But not till this covid shit it over.

Such sick riding by a solid crew just having fun in the mountains is what it’s all about

Three different personalities, three different riding styles, and all three are fantastically skilled, very entertaining.

Thanks for building the berm back up lads!!! That line looks easier than the main line. More critical but smooth. Good one.

 You are my hero @yoannbarelli!!!!!

I need to have a little lie down after that. Chapeau boyz

My wrists hurt just looking at the angle of those brake levers.
  • 1 0
His arms are straight to the grips though. Nuts how low and back he is on the bike to have his arms like that.
  • 2 0
It kind of gives you a sense of how steep those trails are.
  • 3 0
It's biomechanics; ideally you want a straight line from your elbows to your wrists. If you tend to ride over the front end then down is good, but if you ride a lot of steeps and are over the back then up is good. If you watch Yoann when he's riding in the steeper sections his wrists are in a neutral position, so a straight line from the elbow through the wrists.
