Video: YT Launches the Izzo with Gory Anime Edit

Apr 17, 2020
by James Smurthwaite

Whether it was a horror movie for the Capra or hiring Christopher Walken for the new Jeffsy, YT have proven time and again they don't trot out a standard 3-minute shreddit when it comes to launching new bikes.

Their latest launch edit is an anime-style animation for the katana-inspired Izzo. Curious about the Japanese narration? A translation is below:

“Life, it will test you.
人生は試練だ
Dull your spirit, if you let it.
流されれば、鈍る
So be fast and rise above your fear.
スピードアップし、恐れを乗り越えろ
Do not limit yourself, remain agile.
限界に挑み、機敏に動け
Be keen. Be sharp.
熾烈に、鋭敏に
And you will overcome.
そうすれば、克服できる
Because... it is–so.
IZZO だから
FAST. AGILE. SHARP.
高速・機敏・鋭敏
IZZO”

That's fucking dope. If you beat this guy in a fight you get a response from YT customer service.
  • 37 33
YT customer service has been amazing IMO, not sure what you’re talking about.
  • 23 7
@Whatajohnny: prob different for everyone but I’ve heard anything that requires a warranty/frame replacement takes months cuz they have to send it to Germany for “evaluation”
  • 41 17
@TannerValhouli: I’ve “heard” a lot of shit too from people who never own a YT. Every time I’ve dealt with customer service for my Jeffsy, YT has been very responsive and professional.

@Whatajohnny: damn, sorry for contributing to the discussion

@Whatajohnny: not in Canada, unfortunately! :/

 @Whatajohnny:

The big thing is if they have the stock in the US distribution center. If they don't sometimes you have to wait like 3 months.

Yt jeffsy owner here, and never needed customer service for any problem, but I did call them once to ask about the magnetic bottle for that bike, when it would be available and they answered quickly and told me when they would arrive...love the bike, love the service and this new whip looks insane.
  • 15 1
Haha amazing comment. I had a Jeffsy for two seasons and it is next to impossible to get responses from customer service. Takes minimum 2-4 weeks for a one-liner response. Warranty claims? Literally months. So bad.
  • 37 4
Wow it's almost like there are some drawbacks to direct-to-consumer brands.
  • 8 0
@Whatajohnny @TannerValhouli I broke my Jeffsy frame a couple seasons ago. It took 4 months to get a replacement triangle as they were bundling all the warranty and crash replacement parts into one shipment from Germany. Initially, they were charging as a crash replacement but since it took so long they ended up providing it free of charge under warranty. Time frame was less than ideal but they owned up to the extended time it took and the toll of sitting around with an unrideable bike.

 @Coolwinner05:

True that. I ordered from Canada back in 2017, it was a nightmare. That guy sucked.

Now here in the USA it has been a lot better.
  • 5 0
@gbeaks33: sounds like Orbea for the U.S., absolutely no response from customer service with email or phone call and when they actually do process your warranty claim you're lucky if you get the right part the first or second time. I've been off mine for over three months and have received the wrong item twice so far and I'm still waiting for them to get it right.
  • 4 2
@Whatajohnny: Imo Customer service can never be "amazing" when you have to wait days or weeks for a part in the mail. Amazing customer service is when you break a part on your bike and its fixed the same day. So unless you live in the same town as YT you are never going to get the same level of customer service that some bike shops can deliver.
  • 7 0
@DoubleCrownAddict: I get that, but I guess you have to expect that there will be some delays when it comes to direct to consumer brands.
Still - No more frustrating than going to your LBS and having them tell you that they have to order a part that won’t be in for a week, then you can easily just order it yourself (cheaper too).
  • 5 1
I haven't had DTC bike (are we abbreviating them yet?) but I've had unbelievable frustrations from local shops over the years. Ordering a bike gets more and more attractive.
  • 2 0
@Dr-YTMTB: 2017 is when i heard the most complaints, i think once they moved from Reno to So Cal it got better
  • 4 0
@Whatajohnny: YT Customer service is either amazing or absolutely terrible, I haven't heard an in-between story.
  • 4 0
@Ajorda: I've heard it's good in the states and some parts of Europe but terrible in Canada.
  • 6 2
@Whatajohnny: I second this. Maybe 4+ years ago it wasn't great but non YT owners love to take a jab when they have no experience. Have fun with your bike that is 2k more for the same spec.
  • 3 0
@Whatajohnny: yeah exactly the same, not sure about US but hell I had a stone chip of the paint and the sent me touch up paints even.
  • 2 0
@jeremiahwas: I can agree with this. I have an LBS that has enthusiastic sales staff and absolutely terrible service if anything was wrong.

Nearly bought a YT since i figured if i'm still going to get terrible service 5 miles away, may as well chance getting terrible service further away for at least £2k less and sweet bikes. Although i hear the UK/Europe customer service is of a much better quality anyway.
  • 1 1
@Whatajohnny: "every time"? Not sure if this is good or bad.
  • 1 0
@Whatajohnny: I don't know about your local shops but both mine service my bikes that I didn't buy from them and will match an online price for me and when they can't they tell me to get it online. They know I'm coming to them when I need help and they're still making a profit of parts even if it's not full store mark up.

 @asmtb:

I ordered from Canada back then. They sold me a bike, then sold it out from under me at Crankworx, and then they got one in and took their sweet time getting it in the mail.

It was a mess.

I’ve since bought from YT USA and the process was perfect. Even warranty claim (defective paint) was handled immediately.

For a bike company, that is seriously next level advertising...top work!

I don't know about that, but it's better than the Christopher Walken thing for sure.

I would be impressed if I was a Japanese teenager. This is just trendy marketing fluff, but if my company produced a mid- travel pedal bike that required a pathetic grip shift lockout to be efficient in the year 2020 I probably wouldn't want the customers to focus on the specifics either. Focus on the straight line on the top of the frame and pretend the bike is a sword.
  • 16 1
Right?! Just rad to see something other than the shreddit everyone releases
  • 24 1
 IT . LOOKS . AWESOME !

( still can't get one - allergic to pedalling - and also, broke af )
  • 23 2
This has almost nothing to do with the bike at all, yet watching it makes me want to buy 8 of them

Does it come with a facemask?
Facemasks are so hard to come by...

(I am not impressed)

Why did they not call it IIZO (いいぞ) that means great or like two thumbs up in Japanese Isso sounds like うそ means bullshit in Japanese.

I like it! Does anyone remember the stumpjumper video "Happy Entrails" or "Outlaw in Lycra" It was one of the first ads for the stumpjumper I saw. Pretty funny!

I’ve had nothing but positive warranty claims experience with both of the capra’s I’ve owned.
  • 12 2
You had to warranty 2 Capras? Wow
  • 6 1
I don’t care what people say this is a dope ass commercial lol, I don’t see any other companies coming out with crazy commercials like YT
  • 2 0
Great little edit, love it ... but I would really prefer YT spending money on developing their bikes rather then making these videos. It is very obvious that the guy steering YT has a background in marketing and not in engineering
  • 5 0
Does this come with a sword? If so, sign me up.
  • 1 0
Looks like they have the wrong spec listed under the lowest priced Comp model. I was super excited because it said it has GX, a performance elite fork and shock on their specs. Looks like those are the specs from the Pro - the comp comes with NX like in the picture and a rhythm 34.

please make a feature length version of this

Or maybe not, and rather give good money to your athletes???

YT promo ads definitely break the mold.
  • 3 3
In terms of presenting their bikes they are 300 steps ahead of all the others ,but this bike in terms of something fresh (no no ),what are you doing YT ,I might understand that you are appealing to the most majority of people riding bikes ,like that stupid thing of a bottle cage space , like that could define a bike ,but ok got to make money ,and in this times ,like you said on the preview LIVE CAGED ,good luck

Despite what I might think about the Izzo as a bike, I gotta give credit to YZ for the imaginative streak that seems to have infiltrated their product release announcements.
  • 5 1
 K A N E D A ! !
  • 2 1
This is cool but they don't sell bikes because of their ads. I thought the Walken one was a waste of money and they were letting go of factory riders at the time...

Very impressive sakuga for a promo actually, quite unexpected

i didnt notice that from the pics i saw but in this video it stands out and i like it....

Best product release video I’ve seen in awhile. Transitions giddy-up videos from a few years back were pretty awesome too/
  • 2 0
The bike isn't that special but their release stunt are pretty unique
  • 7 3
This one was. The one with Walkins was some dumb hollywood B^llsh*t. The ones with the goat man horror flicks were just weird. And all the articles about how they gave some famous person a bike didn't land with me at all.
  • 5 3
@freestyIAM: Agreed. This company has lost the plot.
  • 6 0
 @freestyIAM:

Still partial to the original Gwin/Zink/reignier etc Jeffsy ad’s. Bangin’ soundtracks, dope riding (on the actual product you’d be buying).

The one with Reignier and Hayden riding the 27 vs 29 is my all time fave!

 I would watch the series.
  • 3 5
Loved the animation, I was waiting for that guy to jump on the new YT but it didn't happen. The final part was disappointing, a poorly placed photo of the bike was a bummer. Anyway, i like that it wasn't a generic video of someone riding in the woods. Kudos!
  • 3 3
Seems like you have a advertising budget thats wasting money.... ya should buy a custom bong from me since your company likes to waste money...... ????????????????????????
  • 1 0
That was so ridiculous it was amazing.

Did the katana have a new hub standard or not?
  • 1 0
Not interested in their bikes but damnnn they know how to hit it with promo!

At least one thing I can give complement is they hired native Japanese speaking voice actor.

Never wait more than few days to get an answer from them when I had my capra., I live in Bc Canada.

Yeah, I love to hate mangas` aesthetic. It`s probably OK for those who are still 14yo in their heads.
Give us a good Tex Avery parody instead!
