We Hit Our Goal! 2017 Share The Ride Winners Announced

Jan 10, 2018
by Pinkbike Staff

The 2017 Share The Ride fundraiser is in the books. With a whopping 2097 donations, we surpassed our goal—raising a total of $51,246! On behalf of Pinkbike, Trailforks, and Share The Ride we would like to thank the Pinkbike community for their amazing contributions in 2017. These donations have given the gift of cycling to children in communities around the world. Without your support these kids may never had been able to relate to the joy you felt the first time you threw a leg over a bicycle, and now they can! Thank you also to our industry sponsors, without their support this campaign would not be possible.

For every $5 that was donated one entry was granted into the Share the Ride contest. Here are the winners who have claimed their prizes.

Engagement clicks bro... PB isn't worth $33 million by just giving things away. They've got this bike-blog thing figured out. Millions of unique clicks and visitor traffic daily are worth far more than the free products their partner sponsors give them (for free) to give away to their users. As much as I believe these fund raisers are awesome, and for great causes - in the end, PB and their partners benefit more. They raised $51k for this effort in several months, but they make that in 1 day in ad revenue. Yay internet!

@NYShred: Everyone's gotta make a living. I imagine there is a staff of 20-30 people, probably more people behind the scenes than there are editors/writers + freelancers who have to get paid. Trailforks also seems like a pretty big investment(both the launch of it and now keeping it going.) Also, Pinkbike isn't taking everyone's money and then bragging about how they are so charitable(like some presidents might do) or putting any of the money in their pockets.

@patnugent: For sure, apologies to PB, my comment was totally dicky and a product of working late and being really grumpy. I regret being cynical and taking something positive and spraying it with my moment of negativity. Unfortunately the "edit" button only lasts for 2mins but my moment of shittiness now lives on the internet forever. Thats the very reason why I don't have any social media accounts. I know I'm capable of being quite the a*shole at times and that comment above was one of those times.

Sad I didn't win, but happy some kid will be shredding on a bike I helped buy! Congratulations to all the winners!
  • + 2
Glad to see winners that actually have content in their profiles... Rather than Advent calendar account bots.
  • + 2
I won in the advent calendar... 1 username.. Lots of stuff bought n sold via the buysell.. don't comment much.. gotta click to win... guess I also have horseshoes up my ass
  • + 1
I'm glad to see some of the winners who actually needed the stuff. Vs a guy I saw win an advent who had multiple several-thousand-dollar bikes and pics of him racing in full gear and whatnot... Eh, that's just my jealousy showing through lol. Congrats to all winners.
  • + 2
Congrats to everyone! Looking forward to updates on the recipients of the new bikes around the world.
