This past weekend there was a World Cup DH race at Fort William, a BC Cup DH race on Vancouver's North Shore and the Teva Mountain games in Colorado.
Here's a look at results from all the events,

This weekend was the North Shore Bike Fest, which was capped off with the Shore Smackdown DH on Neds on Sunday afternoon. I have never ridden Neds or even had the slightest as to what to expect once I got to the Shore on Sunday at noon to watch the racing go down. Upon parking at the top of Berkley, you had a solid 20 minute hike in to the base of the finish line (Shuttles took riders to the top, where they had to ride in to the start line - some of the best crashes of the weekend took place on the way to the course), Steve Mitchell from NRG was set up just below the finish line with water, and Clif Bars for any athletes needing a recharge. Cycling BC officials were working hard to keep the timing all in order and spectators were gathered near the base to watch the tech home stretch. Since I'd never been there before my goal was to hike to the top of the course and then back down all the while snapping pics. Holy crap am I happy that I don't consider myself a racer as I couldn't go fast and be in control here - congrats to all those that can! Check out a few pics of the course:
I talked to volunteers, spectators, photographers and several racers and they all concluded that they really enjoy the Neds race. The course itself is challenging, but at speed is when the racers say that it really shines. The volunteers/spectators enjoyed the constant flow of riders coming through all day and the terrain really allowed photographers to pic an area that could be there own and shoot it to their heart's content.

The weather held out until half way through the pro men and then the rain came down adding a new element for the last of the riders. A few roots got slicker and some lines were tougher to hold, but in the end it was Ewan Fafard on his three year old Cove Shocker (see you don't need the latest and greatest to be the fastest) that was the fastest male of the day and 14 year old Holly Fenniak that was the fastest female of the day (she was on her mom's Cove Shocker and she bested the pro women by 13 seconds - this was the third time this season that Holy has topped the pro women's field - looking forward to more domination from this young racer). Here is where my question to you, the readers, comes into play - Should pro purse money (be it male or female) go to the top racers of the day or stay in the respected categories and the fastest racers get acknowledged, but not paid should they place in the top times?

The awards were held in what would be the only rain storm of the weekend, but it did nothing to dampen the spirit of these racers. Everyone seemed to have enjoyed themselves, big props to all involved in making this year's North Shore Bikefest a success.
