Video: A Builder's Reward

Mountain biking might be an individual sport, but we definitely rely on each other to keep this sport alive. Wesley is one of those riders who won't settle for an okay trail. He pushes his limits until he creates the perfect trail, and won't stop working until he has done so. Wesley shows us why we spend endless hours that turn into months building trails. He has put an insane amount of work into building and maintaining his trails, it's pretty awesome to see all of his hard work pay off and watch him shred his hometown dirt.

 Good luck with that.

Oh I didn't say it worked. But that's what it is. That's why 99% of our local jumps look like garbage.

So the good old "no dig , no ride" system - is a joke unless you own the land , it's not as simple as - no dig no ride because it's impossible to enforce , I like I said.

@beeone72 stop acting like a c*nt and go dig
  • 3 1
Then it's your responsibility to dig when you can. So you can ride. You're not exempt of the duty just because nobody else does it.

My responsibility ? Everybody has a mountain in the backyard ? I live in the city idiots - I have a greenbelt down the street ( I'm not going to dig up a local city park ) and we drive to other established trials. Just because you think it's ok to dig up a public area like you own it doesn't mean everyone is that dumb.
We dig at my friends cottage where the "no dig no ride" rule actually applies. Thats why I was confused as to your "no dig no ride" enforcement policy like my first question was asking.
I'd love to see you whiney bitches try to stop me riding "your" trails if they're in a public area.
Hope you have your trail security jackets on to make it official.

 A) You're being an a*shole.

B) You don't dig up random ass parks. You help maintain your local trails though. Not just hammer the hell out of them and leave. You bail and gouge some of it out, do the needful and fix it. Don't just shrug it off and call it someone else's responsibility. That's why most public trails go down the tubes because of the "it's not my responsibility" attitude.

You do a lot of assuming in your comments bro. My local trails in southern Ontario normally don't have features or berms that need maintenance - when I go to a trail that does , I have to pay to even ride it , it's owned (city or private) and they maintain it on my dollar bro.
Please don't assume everyone rides in BC with a local mountain to dig an ride for free.

Please don't assume everyone in BC has a local mountain to dig or ride for free. We don't all have the insane backyards some people have. In fact I don't have a back yard. I have around 4 sets of public jumps within 20 minute drive. 2 are maintained regularly (and they welcome people keeping them up), and 2 you're not allowed to maintain but people do it anyhow on one of them since it's beside a high school. The no dig no ride thing, mostly means if you're not willing to contribute or make necessary repairs then you don't get the privilege. It's not flat out "oh you didn't make this? too bad go away"

Lol. You live in BC and you don't any local mountains to ride or dig for free - thats rich.
Privilege ? Who gave you the right to say where anyone can ride ? What , because you piled some dirt I can't ride there ? Lol. Good luck with that , again.

I'm saying mountains aren't like walk outside and there it is. I live in the lower mainland. I have to drive for at the very least on a good day 45 minutes to get to a mountain where I need to shuttle or hike up. Trails are, for the most part, well maintained anyway because the riders take care of them.

And you're missing the point. No dig no ride doesn't mean "you didn't build, then you can f*ck off" it means if you break it fix it. If there's something wrong with it, do your best to make it work again. Upkeep. General, simple upkeep. It's everyones responsibility to keep their hobby going, because fun fact, city workers don't build trails, riders do, and they do it for free usually.

The local hill in your area is the size of our biggest lift access DH mountain ( 1 of 2 ) that we drive over two hours to get to.
Fun fact ....I already told you the trails I ride that have features of any sort ARE maintained and built by either the city or the private company that owns the hill.
The whole "no dig no ride" and "it's a privilege" thing sounds a little high n mighty to me considering everyones scenario is different.
I have to travel to go to any good trails - If I showed up at your local trails with my rake and shovel would you say great ? Or what the fu(k is this guy gonna do to my local trails that I ride everyday ? I know what I'd think. Lol. And why would I want to change the trails in your local area if I'm only there for like 4 hours ? Should I ride the trail with a shovel into pack at all times just in case my handlebar gouges the trail? Just saying your modo is not realistic for some riders.

If you had a shovel and a rake with you, i'd say you were prepared actually. Then again, most of my local jumps have toolboxes. I'm not referring to changing them. I'm just saying, you hack the shit apart on something you're regularly riding, might as well ensure you can keep riding it. I'm really not going as far as you think I am. I'm just saying that you can't relinquish all responsibility just because it's city owned. It costs someone time and money to fix stuff in bike parks. Might as well help.

I was at a pay n ride ($6.75) area yesterday myself.
The info in their brochure says not to maintain or alter the trails at all - hmmm.
