ADHRA - Western Cup at Kicking Horse Resort

The Alberta Downhill Racing Association is proud to present the first ever Western Canada Cup at Kicking Horse Mountain Resort on the July 11-12, 2009 weekend. This event will be run on a brand new DH course that KHMR is preparing specifically for this race. The most unique feature of this race will be the awarding of the Western Canada Cup trophy to the province with the fastest overall group of riders.The Venue

Kicking Horse Mountain Resort is located high in the Dogtooth Range of the Purcell Mountains, 14 km above Golden, British Columbia. Surrounded by towering peaks of two other mountain ranges – the Rockies and Selkirks – it is also close to six of Canada’s most spectacular National Parks: Banff, Jasper, Kootenay, Yoho, Glacier, and Mt. Revelstoke. The resort is just 1.5 hours west of Banff (145 kilometers) and 2.5 hours west of Calgary (270 Kilometers) on the Trans-Canada highway.

Registration and Fees

$40 for all categories if pre-registered by Thursday July 9 on www.karelo.com.

There will be a $10 late registration fee for all registrations on July 11th.

THERE WILL BE NO RACE DAY REGISTRATIONS.

Day licenses will be available for all non-licensed riders, please see the commissaire or technical delegate when registering.

The Schedule

Sat. July 11
10am-3:30pm Racer check-in and registration
10am-4pm Open DH training runs
4pm–5:30pm Elite training only
5:30pm DH Course closed for inspection

Sun. July 12
8am-10am Racer check-in (no race day registrations)
10am-12 noon Mandatory DH training runs
12-1pm DH Course closed for inspection
1-3:30pm Competition
4pm Awards
The Categories

Categories will be as per Cycling BC DH age categories with Sport and Expert levels added to specific categories as shown.

U15 Male (13-14)
U17 Male (ages 15 – 16) – Sport and Expert
Junior Male (ages 17 – 18 ) – Sport and Expert
Junior Female (ages 15 – 18 )
Senior Male (ages 19-29) – Sport and Expert
Senior Female (ages 19-29)
Elite Male (ages 19+)
Elite Female (ages 19+)
Master 30-39 Male – Sport and Expert
Master 30+ Female
Master 40-49 Male
Master 50+ Male

Citizen Categories:
U19 Citizen Men
19-29 Citizen Men
30+ Citizen Men
U19 Citizen Women
19-29 Citizen Women
30+ Citizen Women

Race Order

Race order will run upwards from youngest (U15) to Masters 50+ with Elite racers last on the course. Racers will be called to the start by race number and MUST obey the race director’s instructions. There will be a 45 second delay between riders and a course clear between age groups

Race etiquette

Race officials are to be obeyed at all times. Any abuse of race officials WILL result in disqualification. Any racer being overtaken on the course MUST yield the right of way and not impede the other competitor.

Re-runs

In the event of a crash, if an overtaking rider is forced to slow or stop, they will be granted a rerun. All other instances are at the discretion of the Chief Commissaire.

Equipment

Full face helmets are mandatory. Arm, Leg and body armor are highly recommended. Number plates must be affixed to the handlebars and be clearly visible.

Prizes

Cash prizes for the top three Elite riders in both male and female categories. All podium finishers will receive prizes generously donated by Calgary Cycle and Louis Garneau. Draw prizes will also be given to select lucky participants. All prizes must be accepted as given. Draw prize winners must be present to accept their prize.
