Kicking Horse Mountain Resort - The Western Open Downhill – Update - Learn to Race with BaSE camps!

The preparation for the Western Open downhill race at Kicking Horse Mountain Resort on August 28th & 29th continues. This month’s race update includes the announcement for the BaSE learn to race camps happening over race weekend and this month’s pre-registration prize winner.

And the winner is...

SE Racing, Kicking Horse Mountain Resort and Calgary Cyclepath have teamed up to build a sweet pre-registration perks program. All racers who pre-register online at cyclingbc.net are entered into a monthly prize draw leading up to the race. This month's winner is Dianna Hardie from Vancouver BC. Dianna has scored a new grip pack from ODI and will be able to claim this Calgary Cyclepath prize at the registration desk on race weekend.

A new prize will be drawn every month leading up to the Western Open along with a grand prize Spank Puff Frame will be given away at the pre-race patio shakedown on Saturday August 28th.



Learn to race...

During the Western Open on Saturday August 28th, BaSE will be running a Learn to Race DH clinic for teens seeking a solid start at racing.

“In partnership with the event, BaSE Mountain Bike Camps and Cycling BC have join forces to offer an opportunity for youth to get introduced to downhill racing” states Stephen Exley, Race Director for the Western Open. “Being fast, agile and confident on a bike are great skills to put to use when competing. The coaching team at BaSE can teach the skills to make a teen’s first racing experience a success.”

BaSE Mountain Bike Camps is providing a full day clinic with young mountain bike sensation Jesse Darling. The future racers will learn how to get ready physically and mentally, how to read and walk the course prior to a race, they will also work on their downhill riding skills and get to be assessed with a video analysis session at the end of the day.

The event...

Kicking Horse Mountain Resort and SE Racing have scheduled the Western Open for August 28th & 29th, 2010. Last summer KHMR was the host of the Western Cup and set a staggering precedent for future circuit downhill races. The re-worked Pioneer Race Course proved challenges to experienced racers and thrilled spectators. Moving with the momentum of last year’s unique event, the 2010 race will embody similar course elements with the addition of celebration events in the plaza hosted by Ryan Berrecloth.
