Where Should Bernard Kerr Do Our Stoppie Challenge?

Oct 12, 2017
by Pinkbike Productions

Pinkbike and Pivot have teamed up to give Bernard Kerr his hardest Stoppie challenge to date. As you will have seen from the video above we've lined up 3 of our favorite 'Rock Rolls' in Pinkbike's hometown of Squamish for the king of stoppies to test himself on - best part is you get to choose which one and also have chance of winning a brand new bike!

Pivot have just revamped the Pivot Mach 6 Aluminium and they are giving voters the chance to win their very own. The prize on offer is the XT 1x spec, which features Fox Suspension front and rear, Shimano 11spd XT Drivetrain and a Raceface Bar and Stem Combo - retailing for $3,899 USD.

With only 3 trails to choose from, do I have a 33.3% chance of winning?!?!
  • + 7
Everyone is in with a chance of winning, it's all about which trail Bernard throws himself down...
  • + 59
If you create 3 accounts and check a different one from each account, YOU'LL WIN FOR SURE

First lets call it the correct name of the trick - its called an "Indo"...

A "stoppie" sounds like when your mom is filming you ride in the driveway and says "hey, do that front wheel stoppie thing again for the camera".
  • + 53
@NYShred: "Indo" is what I just smoked! How 'bout "Endo"
  • + 5
We used to call it a California wheelie but without a front brake we used to jam our foot between the wheel and fork crown.
  • + 2
Go B! I say you hit em all!
  • + 6
@mrgonzo: That would be a Footjam
  • + 1
@timmyelle: as in "end-over".... vs "in-dover". At least from the history books I've read.
  • + 5
@NYShred: I thought an endo was when you came to a complete stop and held it. As in kerb endo or endo turn variations.
  • - 2
chopper - ask the 30- keyboard warriors that disagree with me and the 30+ keyboard warriors that do agree with the guy below me, who also agrees with me (sans typo)... the community here is bi-polar.

If I'm not saying "send it", "gutted", "slack", hashtagging a lost legend, worshipping mediocre yoga posts or disagreeing with the price of something, it gets negative props. So what do I know?
  • + 2
@NYShred: Back in my day, we called it an endo. Now you kids get off my damn lawn!
  • + 3
Personally, an Endo to me signifies a nose wheelie that ends in a crash or simply an over the bars crash. Endo > End over> "End over End" crash.

"I was crushing it until I did an endo off that rock drop and smashed my face up".
  • + 0
@tetonlarry: In the old school BMX freestyle days, it was just a simple trick where you jammed on the front breaks, threw your weight forward and balanced there for a second before returning safely to the ground. You could get all tweaked out and tucked back behind the seat and throw all kinds of style -- some guys would turn the bars with one hand and hold the seat post with the other for what was known as a bar endo. But really, it was a simple trick -- a basic, no matter how much style. If you couldn't endo, you might as well have forgotten about doing any other flatland trick.

I think this guy is doing more of a nose wheelie than an endo. But again, back in the day, a nose wheelie was backward. This is a "stoppie." I believe he will be rolling forward. We probably did that back in the day, too, but I don't remember what we called it.

Ok, history lesson over. Now get back to steppin' off my lawn.

I crawl down that slab on In and Out Burger at 2kph while crying so doing a stoppie down it would be pretty epic.
  • + 2
I came across this trail this past summer after joining with a couple of guys coming down Entrails. They said it was the bomb so I followed them in and one of them stoppied the whole slab turns and all. Mad skills required but apparent very doable! Just not for me....
  • + 4
@greg1: what turns ur suppose to go straight down it
  • + 1
@jackross: You drop in right to left off a steeper roll down and then gradually turn to the right as you work your way down and leave out the bottom right corner of the slab. No sharp turns really but not straight. I suppose you could take a more direct line down the middle but the guys I was following did it as described. Scary one way or the other imho.
  • + 1
@greg1: even more fun in the wet
  • + 1
Yeah if they were filming this morning it would have been entertaining. On the bright side, it wouldn't have been dusty!
  • + 44
 The hardline road gap?
  • + 23
What he should really do is when he's here in NZ for our summer he should stoppie down Baldwin Street in Dunedin (the worlds steepest street!)
  • + 5
Didnt Wyn Masters do this recently?
  • + 6
I used to live at the top of that street! Remember watching a buddy bomb it brakes-off on his BMX after a party at ours one night. I swear his hubs were glowing at the bottom!
  • + 1
@melonhead1145: its not called stoppie wednesday...he manualed it. I rode up it on my trail bike while I was there, wouldnt want to ride down on any less than two wheels!
  • + 2
@samty: Last time I went down Baldwin was on a Kona Manomano. Z2 bombers on the front with V's front & rear, a full face & a heap of overconfidence.
It's actually pretty safe to do so long as no one pulls out of their driveway or you don't have a brake failure (there's quite a bit of room to stop easily but the T junction would be a problem with no brakes).
My Cateye said I reached 98.4km/h. Only 1.6km/h more & I'd have reached my goal. Still not bad given the 50km/h speed limit! lol
  • + 1
@LlamaLlama: Dude he actually did stoppie down part of it.

Wyn should lay at the bottom of the hill, legs splayed, and let's see how close Bernard can get to his jewels without crushing them.
  • + 1
 @Skootur: Badass!

Right on! We saw you filmin' Crabapple on closing day - cool session!!

My son Ryder loves all those slabs & it will be cool to see you take it to the next level... Here's a couple of them:

When he's back in England he should do the massive slap next to the suspension bridge in Bristol. Getting a bit of stoppie action here from Martyn Ashton and Martin Hawyes back in the day: youtu.be/tdojA1YD4Cg?t=15m49s
  • + 8
Bernard rips! On Whistler's closing day as the light faded we saw him film/session Crabapple hits with STEEZE right after he stepped off the plane. No pressure!

My son Ryder LOVES all those slabs & it will be cool to see Bernard take them to the next level... Here's a quick clip with Boney & Intestinal:

  • + 2
 kids a ripper!
  • + 8
Bernard Kerr --> please rock In 'n' Out Burger with a burger in your hand. I guess you need only on hand for your front brake :-)
  • + 7
He could try pulling a stoppie in Sheffield city centre, but some bugger would nick his back wheel whilst he was traveling.
  • + 8
Lombard Street, San Francisco SHOW ME WHAT YOU GOT!
  • + 5
Bernard man he's the most underrated guy going The real challenge is finding something so knarly and huge he won't go down on one wheel
  • + 3
Bernard seemed most interested in Heuso so I chose that one. However, in and out had an amazing view and he still has the capability to do it 100%. Maybe do all 3 while he is there. Take it easy
  • + 6
Oh man! Hoping trail builder karma improves my chances at winning.
  • - 1
You forgot the first rule of trail building. And the second.
  • + 3
If it helps we put in a bit of tidying up on the riding line of the winning trail Smile
  • + 4
In N Out...animal style double double in hand! Would love to see him do it on Blue Dot or UPS in Moab or on Rollins Pass in CO!
  • + 5
Bernard is one steezy rider no question.
  • + 5
I wonder if he's already filmed all three.
  • + 1
I love Bernard's videos and his vibe in general but this:

"With stunning uphill capability and downhill handling that beats any bike in its class"

Said a marketer about a 6" bike sold with a fkng Fox Float Evol shock. WTF. I don't know how miserable mind could take this statement seriously. It doesn't really carry the message how confident you are in your product mate, it makes you sound like a self-boasting douche
  • + 1
You wouldn't believe how well it descends paved roads when it's locked out!
  • + 4
Lion's Back in Utah would be freaking amazing
