PRESS RELEASE: Whistler Mountain Bike Park

“New bike day”. Perhaps only one phrase in life is better (“Bike Park opening day”), but we’ll get to that shortly.

As if we didn’t have enough anticipation for Bike Park to open, our friends at GT Bikes sent our new 2019 Fury and Force Peak edition bikes. The completely designed Fury and brand new Force have a custom build for the Bike Park, and will be stocked at GBB Rentals and our demo centre for your riding pleasure.

With our shops still making the seasonal switch to summer mode, we headed do to Fluid Function in Squamish to get a couple of the new bikes built up. If you are needing to get you RockShox suspension tuned up and ready for bike park season, these guys are the best in the business.

The all-new Force won the EWS Whistler last year, so we don't think you'll be able to blame your riding on the bike.

Thanks again to the Fluid Function team for building up these bikes and letting us take over their space. Visit them before Bike Park season to make sure your suspension is up to the task of another summer.

Looking forward to picking one up next fall at a hefty discount.

I’ll sell you mine in fall! Big discount!

So it has been confirmed. These are our Staff bikes that are pictured. These are not what the rentals will be spec'd with.

Wow, props if they actually put MaxxGrip tires on demo/rental bikes (at least the high spec Peak models), give renters some actual grip but they will wear out super fast. Most shops put on the horrible Schwalbe MM Bike Park compound or single compound DH casing Maxxis and pump them to 35+ PSI for less wear n tear, and give you zero grip.

rock hard MM's work well at Whistler imo. they do wear like crazy. I burned up a set in 1 week last summer. Need high pressure for the sharp hits at high speed. I tried to lower my pressure just a little and wasted a ton of time with flats. there is a reason they pump them hard at the rental shop. Also, make sure you get the right shock spring for your weight if you rent. I found many shops had bikes way over sprung. my XL demo 8 had a spring that was off the charts. set your sus up right and alls well.

@DDoc: I've ran DH casing Maxxis Minion (DHF SuperTacky or 3C MaxxGrip front, DHR II rear) as well as Schwalbe wire bead DH casing (Addix soft) and SuperGravity folding Addix... yeah they wear out fast but you actually get grip. I do about 26-27 PSI front and 30-32 rear at 210lbs, very rarely flat and only hit my rear rim if I case into rocks.

Can't imagine running those rock hard tires in the front, would be downright scary to me.

your theory more-so applies to rental shops owned by whistler blackcomb, where bikes a lot of the time, are in shite. I work in whistler village sports and not only are our rentals cheaper than the mountain, but on one of the carbon demos for example, you get fresh sticky butchers, fox 40s, renthals, saints, hope hub, dt Swiss rims etc. We also have Evil park bikes on route as rentals, can't wait to try one of those! We also have regular scheduled maintenance. Don't mean to go on and on, but yeh, some shops have the goods!

@PeterT: Good point, I used to direct people to FantaykCo (until they started using the Bike park compound Schwalbes), usually suggest Evolution now but will put WVS on the list as that is a sweet build... tires are so important it sucks to give people bikes with no grip.

 That Fury colour is Drool

Carbon frames? RIP fleet after 1 week.....

There is a chance the bike pictured are actually team or staff bikes. If they are species with those tires. It would be the first year we ever did that.
