PRESS RELEASE: WHYTE BIKES

The ten out of tens and five out of fives review scores our bikes have been getting are partly down to another set of numbers- the ones that make up Whyte’s unique geometry and ride character. Whether it’s our Alp taming, EWS thoroughbred G170 series bikes, our entry level 600 series trail hardtails or our mold-breaking, award-winning Wessex road bikes every Whyte is designed to create a unique chemistry with its rider to let you go faster, further and more comfortably in total confidence.

That’s because we push the front wheel further in front of the rider at a slacker angle to the frame. This helps the steering ‘ self-correct’, keeping you on track whether you’re ripping down a rowdy mountain trail or a back road shortcut turns out shady. By adding a long reach top tube we can team the stable steering with a super short, snap reacting stem for dodging traffic and potholes on the way to work or surfing sliding tires down a black run descent. Add our own carefully selected handlebar shapes and you’ve got the perfect balance of confident communication and connection in your hands.

Steering feel alone isn’t enough to create a benchmark setting, award-winning handling character though. We also drop the center of gravity of our bikes as low as possible so they naturally glue themselves onto the ground through corners rather than leaving you perched and precarious. Because driving a barge is dull we keep the back ends super short whatever the wheel size to guarantee the hop and pop agility you need to bring the trail alive.

We’ve also created our own linkage systems and worked with our suspension suppliers to create custom tunes that keep ride height and geometry composed and consistent however hard you drive through turns, haul on the brakes or stamp the pedals. We also equip all our suspension bikes with dropper seat posts so you can stay low and mobile as well as fitting grippy front, fast rear rubber to underline their swaggeringly confident yet addictively responsive character.

There is a wish list spec on the Works, but stand-outs must include the 30mm hookless Whyte carbon rims hand-laced onto Hope Pro4 hubs, the XX1 Reverb with under-the-bar paddle lever and the RockShox suspension.S stands for Switch - the ability to fit 650b wheels with 2.8"tires and still have UK levels mud clearance. Our wheel kits switch into your bike in the time it takes to go back to your car and change the Eagle cassette.

A wide main pivot with oversize hardware is a perfect way to get the power down. The S-150 was built unashamedly around the SRAM Eagle concept. With Eagle tech now available at GX level, the S-150 S makes the most of the huge 500% gear range - both in the speed it climbs and the ability to get pedal strokes in, as well as a big top gear for the descents.

The new T-130 takes the playful, do-it-all attitude of its award-winning predecessor and massively updates it with more capable suspension, latest generation Whyte OTO geometry and sleeker packaging. The T-130 geometry was designed around a shorter 37mm offset fork. The extra front end grip this creates, allows us to make the most of the 140mm travel fork, fully exploiting the capabilities for the new chassis, the more neutral handling and the 2.6" tires. The Works bike gets a wish-list spec on our best and latest Whyte frame, creating what is for us, the ultimate trail bike.

ENDURO / 27.5/ 27.5-29ER

G-170 Carbon Works 29er - $5200.00

photo

When the Whyte Gravity Enduro team are not racing the 27.5" bike it's because they are riding the 29er version. The G-170 was always designed with both wheel sizes in mind - this modularity gives us the ability to offer both wheel sizes to suit your style. This bike is ready for anything you want to throw at it, from hard-core trail riding to EWS Enduro racing. With its open front triangle design, it is possible to fit various options of rear shock including coil shocks and still carry a full-size water bottle. The G-170C Works 29er has extra width built into the rear chainstays allowing the rider to fully exploit future developments in wide high volume tires up to up to 29 x 2.5" and maintain mud clearance.

G-170 Carbon Works 27.5 - $5000.00

This bike will not only be raced by our Gravity Enduro team - it was actually designed in conjunction with them. Their input to the geometry, combined with the new carbon front triangle and oversize hardware, adds up to a very stiff and capable chassis. This bike is ready for anything you want to throw at it, from hard-core trail riding to EWS Enduro racing. TRAIL / 27.5 / HARDTAILS

905 27.5 - $1900.00

photo

The new 2019 905 defines the modern Trail Hardtail. Its stripped back SCR frame, the all-new RockShox Revelation fork, and the 2.8" tires make this the best 905 Whyte have ever built. The 2018 905 brings ideas directly from our Whyte Enduro team, from the thicker V-Grips to the use of 170mm cranks to bring the rider 5mm closer to the ground without compromising pedal clearance. WTB STP i35 35mm wide TCS rims combined with Maxxis 2.8" high volume TR 3C compounds create more comfort, more grip, and more fun!

901 27.5 - $1400.00

photo

With the 901 it's all about the geometry - it will make you feel more confident in all situations than any hardtail you've ever ridden. With its BBX frame there is the easy option to upgrade to a Whyte Drop.it seat post. For 2019 the 901 rides on high air volume 2.6" Maxxis Forekaster tires which combine with the WTB STP i29 rims to create more comfort, more control, and more fun! The award-winning 901 features the "Get A Grip" seat post clamp system. This allows quick adjustment, fantastic weatherproofing and a nice ergonomic lever which is easy to operate however cold your hands might be.

Youth / Kids / 26" Trail

26" 405 - $999.00

photo

We've broken the mold with our kids bikes. By putting 26" wheels on a kids MTB we've given a boost in performance similar to an adult switching to a 650b/27.5" Trail Hardtail. More confidence, more control and easier riding. With SRAM NX 1 by 11 spec and a trigger shifter, the 405 really is a scaled down version of our award-winning 900 series bikes. We have spec'd a XSYNC Direct Mount chainring so multiple chainrings are available to tune this bike to the size of the rider. The 405 also comes with Whyte's own Get-a-Grip seat post clamping system. This easy to use clamp allows the post to be raised or lowered on the trail, even with small cold hands.

26" 403 - $699.00

they look like chinese specialized knock offs that someone put a whyte decal on
  • 17 1
I hope there's a small group of Whyte engineers and marketers giggling somewhere: "But then after we used the same suspension design and made it look like a Spec, we just stuck the travel number in the middle of S-Works on the top-tier model!"
  • 3 1
Specialized carry’s nothing like the 905 though
  • 1 1
@mkotowski1: They have a plus tire trail hardtail called the Fuse with a 120mm fork. The 905 is 130mm. Basically the same...

 @IanZSmith: negative. Nothing alike.

 Right?

Do you even punctuation, Whyte?

Not a single white Whyte. This must be on purpose.

The Specialized comments fall on deaf ears. There are MANY Enduros in my next of the woods and everyone was BLOWN away by the 'Stance' and 'Silhouette' of the G170. You can see in person the differences......with the low BB and progressive nature of the shock I am SO happy with my purchase!

 Thanks Brooks! Well said!

The G-170 Works looks like it's ready to shred. @pinkbikeaudience: are you still planning a huge test of 2019 bikes?

I'm new to Whyte bikes this year (201Cool . I tried out just about every brand there is for my most recent purchase, and my short list came down to Pivot (Mach 4 and Switchblade), YT (Jeffsey), Whyte (T-130). Had nothing to go on with the Whyte other than I liked the geo numbers, bike of the year awards, and years of good reviews in Europe. Took a chance on Whyte since they have a nice return policy. I've been happily abusing a 2018 T-130. This thing is rock solid and is by a good margin my favorite over all the bikes I've spent time owning, renting, and demoing. The build quality is excellent! You don't see many of Whyte's bikes here in the U.S. (yet?), so I get a few curiosity requests to ride it. EVERY response has been hands down... 'wow'. Light feeling, fast, playful, are common observations. The T-130 has a "do it all" feel to it, likes to be thrown around, and inspires confidence when things get steep and rough. It climbs steep tech like crazy. And as much as the 130 feels like it's a 150, I can only imagine what Whyte's 150's or 170's are capable of. Great U.S. sales support as well!

Bought 3 Whytes from Whyte USA and the hardtails are the best you can possibly ride. However after ordering 3 bikes I’ve tried emailing them for support and all my emails have gone unanswered. After being a “regular” customer Im somewhat disappointed and will not be buying from them any longer. Bikes are great though. Sound engineering and great to ride.

Can you get them frame only? If so, how much is the carbon 150?
  • 1 0
Hi Speedr01 we do not sell frames complete only.
  • 1 0
@whytebikesUSA: That's a mistake. You want exposure as a new brand. You'll get way more exposure selling frames cuz the folks that want frames are the folks that ride and work on bikes.

 Are they 29+ compatible?
  • 1 3
 Wish they would’ve made a more mid-travel 29er. Doesn’t seem like there’s much use for a 130mm 27.5 bike anyway.
  • 10 0
Is your second sentence a joke? Have you heard the TR Scout, SC 5010, Spec Stumpy? 29 inch whees have their purpose but the 130 mm travel 650B trail bikes out today are weapons for almost everything besides the biggest of bike parks. (Even then)

@RideTahoe707: imo no reason to be small wheels unless you have 140 travel or more. Most manufactures have forgone their short travel 27.5 options. The scout, stumpy, and 5010 all have 140+ travel
  • 5 1
 we do its the S-120
  • 7 0
@bridgermurray: not to be offensive, but that is incorrect. scout is 130r/150f, ST stumpy is 130r/130f, and the 5010 is also 130r/130f
