A Wild Season and Golden Opportunities Ahead

by FMB World Tour
With the FMB Diamond Series approaching fast, we are looking forward to a wild season jam-packed with loads of slopestyle action. As in the past the FMBA will be awarding wildcards for FMB Diamond Series Events at a number of FMB Gold Events. The FMB Wildcards have been confirmed, so it is time to get stoked for the best season yet!

Crankworx Rotorua Slopestyle in Memory of McGazza kicks off the FMB Diamond Series next week on April 2. Although the diamond contests are the focal point of the season, the FMB Gold Events will also play a big role for the FMB Diamond Series this year. The scores of the athletes at the diamond contests Crankworx Rotorua, Crankworx Les Gets, Crankworx Innsbruck, Red Bull Joyride at Crankworx Whistler and Red Bull District Ride will be totaled up with their best result at an FMB Gold Event to determine, who will become the FMB World Champion in 2017. So, the Gold Events will be essential to the athletes in order to secure the title at the end of the season.

The relevance of FMB Gold Events is increased even more due to the fact that the FMBA is awarding two FMB Wildcards and thus giving athletes access to the best slopestyle contests in the world. FMB Wildcards are awarded to the best-placed athletes at one of the below mentioned contests, who have not yet qualified for the following FMB Diamond Event; a golden opportunity for all athletes competing at FISE Montpellier (FRA), 26TRIX (Leogang, AUT), GlemmRide Bike Festival Saalbach (AUT), Colorado Freeride Festival (Winter Park, USA) and O’Marisquino (Vigo, ESP). Previous benefiters of this procedure last year were for example Ryan Nyquist (USA), Matt Jones (GBR), Emil Johansson (SWE) and Nico Scholze (GER). All four of them earned their tickets to FMB Diamond Events last year by performing well at FMB Gold Events. It will be exciting to see, who will be following in their footsteps this year.

 i miss watching Martin Soderstrom

 Who doesn't? ????

Always seems like some of the top riders don't really try to stack up / compete in all the FMB events. Semenuk always tunes out, Soderstrom is either out for injury or just not in it anymore idk, I try not to pay attention to the rankings too much because it's pretty clear that a lot of riders don't like traveling all over to catch every single event.

Unrelated: after 4-5 years of annual attendance, went to the "Sunday Joyride" last year at Crankworx, Whistler... what a buzz kill. Move it back to Saturday, I'll just catch the highlights/replays this year.

Uhh hi... I'm sure they would love to be at all the events, however this type of riding takes a toll on the body. Slopestyle is getting more competitive than ever with new and amazing riders coming up all the time. Get a grip man you got to be at the Sunday Joyride how lucky are you.

@Yarlezy: Anyone local can go you just take the drive and pay for parking ?

And no grip getting needed here, Sunday joyride legitimately sucks. Saturday evening joy ride was the cats ass.

I know, but like I've heard Cam Zink say at Crankworx Rotorua Slopestyle last year, "I think Rogatkin should have won." I feel the same way he went more, all out then Brandon did!!!! Frown

I just want to see someone fall into that water.

Does anyone know if Brandon is going to compete Rotorua this year?
  • 1 0
I know, it's a yes from me, almost certainly
  • 1 1
On his Instagram he said he was going to miss. Bummer but understandable nonetheless.

Don't listen to me I read Brett not Brandon. Brett won't be competing Brandon idk

@Dynex: Brett isn't ready yet he is still in recovery mode.

@Yarlezy: ?????? What up with Brett Frown ?
  • 1 0
@DigRenno: He hurt his knee a few months ago. He won joyride last year i'm sure he is in no rush.

@Yarlezy: awe too bad!! I knew he won joyride which l was glad he did!!!! Talking about joyride and all the guys that recently broke on the big platform of slopestyle... I wish Matt Jones would have done better. He had a really good top scoring run I thought especially for coming on the Crankworx scene now so it's kind of a bummer!!!

Wish Brett would have been able to pull a full solid run at Rampage last year!! Frown saw some clips of him in practice and it was good!!!!

  • 5 0
In 2015 it was rescheduled to Sunday do to rain. Last year it was scheduled on Sunday afternoon to make it more family friendly.

that was two years ago. They've now moved joyride to sunday permanently. The day everyone goes home. lol.

How many times is Rogatkin gonna claim some whack un-stylish trick this year?
  • 13 4
These so called "Whack un-stylish" tricks are bringing tons of new viewers coverage and trick advancements to slope style. Regardless the guy throws down crazy tricks to try to push the sport, not necessarily be the cleanest rider out there. Huge props to him.

So far already once with a front flip tailwhip to tuck on rezi

My number one hope is to see Rogatkin on the number one spot on top a podium at Crankworx this year!!!!! Brett 2nd and Brandon brave enough to take 3rd.... say what you want Brett and Brandon but a least Rogatkin on the top he deserves it!!!!! Smile
