Win a 2018 Whyte S-150s - Pinkbike's Advent Calendar Giveaway

Dec 15, 2017
by Pinkbike Staff
Advent Calendar 2017 - 15 December

Dec 15th draw is now closed. The winner of the 2018 Whyte S-150s is Pinkbike user superstoked .
Congratulations superstoked

Prize Details:

S in S-150 stands for Switch - the ability to fit 650b wheels with 2.8" tyres and still have plenty of mud clearance. Latest generation Whyte geometry, 150mm of travel and 29er wheels make this trail bike fast and controllable in every situation. A wide main pivot with oversize hardware is a perfect way to get the power down. The S-150 was built unashamedly around the SRAM Eagle concept. With Eagle tech now available at GX level the S-150 S makes the most of the huge 500% gear range - both in the speed it climbs and the ability to get pedal strokes in, as well as a big top gear for the descents. For 2018 Whyte will launch wheel kits that are ready to switch into your bike in the time it takes to go back to your car and change the Eagle cassette.

@JumpinJesus: all @jamesdippy wants for xmas is a nut
  • 14 4
Why,oh why,oh why do bike designers insist on haveing cables hanging under the bottom bracket?Internal cabling then all the mess hanging under neath, don't get it.
  • 6 8
Where do you see cables under the bracket?
  • 48 2
 @zonoskar: under the bottom bracket
  • 2 0
the other option is to run above the bottom bracket, like on the dmr bike reviewed on pb recently, which also looks a mess and takes up the space where the bottle cage would be. There is probably a solution out there somewhere.
  • 5 1
@jase111171: you win the internet for the day
  • 1 0
@Braindrain: There is, but it ain't pretty.
  • 2 0
I can't really see if it's the shifter cable or the brake line. I guess the shifter cable should not have too many bends in it, otherwise it impacts shifting performance. Also, the chance that it breaks is really small, even in that position. The brake line however has no business under the BB.
  • 1 0
Nothing you can't fix with a bunch of zip ties and a few feet of gaffer tape.

That said, I was never aware I ever managed to hit to bb onto something. The bash ring, yes. That's why I have it. But how I'd ever manage to make the bb shell hit an obstacle properly? I'd be more likely to hit the hose right where it enters the brake caliper. It is much more exposed over there.
  • 1 0
I'm guessing there just has to be a little extra slack near the BB to allow the bike to move through the suspension without pulling on the cables, right?
  • 1 0
@BobbyLite: yep, more travel ,bigger loop.Transition have changed there frame design, for that reason
  • 4 0
 @jase111171: @zonoskar
"Where do you see cables under the bracket?"

"Under the bottom bracket"

Priceless.
  • 1 0
@Poulsbojohnny: strong contender for comment of the year award.
  • 6 0
Wow, I would love to win this one... and it's METAL!!!
  • 5 0
Am I the only who thinks the Alu version of this bike looks about 10 times better than the Carbon? That's unusual.
  • 1 0
Awesome bike! On my short list for the next enduro rig: this, Orbea Rallon, pivot switchblade, and SC Hightower LT. so far I have tested the orbea and pivot but could not get my hands on the whyte yet...would be great to snatch this!! ????
  • 1 0
It's a good thing my email is now updated. It's been a old hotmail email from the days when hotmail got hack and their emails were no longer accessible. Gmail jaja! Now I'm just waiting for pinkbike to start their own email service.
  • 1 0
Hey Pinkbike guys - I see that "Winner has been contacted and will be published once we have confirmation of prize acceptance" - are you sure you typed my email correctly ? Wink

just let me know if the "winner" will not accept the prize - i can take it
  • 1 0
Love Whyte bikes, look great in the flesh.Think seatpost options will be limited to hydraulic actuated on this model though, looking at the frame angles.Anyone know the seatpost cable/hose routing on this model?
  • 1 0
It works great with all dropper posts, hydraulic or cable actuated.
  • 1 0
@mrfitz424: it just looks like the cable would have to come back on itself at a 45 degree angle, down near the bottom bracket, that obviously not an issue with a reverb, but I could see issues with a cable.Nice bike all the same.
  • 2 0
I was just about to order my new 29er frame but I think I’ll just hold off a couple of days to see if a nice email arrives from Pinkbike ????
  • 1 1
Holy crap what an awesome prize! Good luck to all and congrats to whoever wins it. Hope it'll be me lol. My buddies and I plan to shred several NW area parks in the upcoming year (yes Duthie included Big Grin ) and this bike, and that Strive, would be perfect for the job. Not to mention huge upgrades over anything I've owned. I would love to be wrong, so feel free to chime in and correct me, but I don't know if my current steed (2011 Marin Alpine Ridge) would fare well... ?
  • 1 0
*meant to say "or that Strive" LOL no way I'm getting both...
  • 1 0
Fingers crossed the winner is announced somewhere as opposed to the scam Ante Up For Trails MBOSC put on. Searched MBOSC site up and down and found no winner announcement anywhere.
  • 1 0
I got an email saying the winner hadn't responded and they will draw again in a couple of weeks, if not claimed. That was beginning of the month I think. No news since.
  • 1 0
Found this. They just announced winner. mbosc.org/news
  • 1 0
@sheathy07: thanks for the info @sheathy07 and congrats Mike!
  • 1 0
@sheathy07: interesting though as their rules state "Prize must be claimed within 30 days of drawing. Any unclaimed prize after that date will constitute forfeiture and be transferred to MBOSC as a donation." so MBOSC decided to reraflle the bike? That's prett cool.
