In Switzerland Bell is also a brand of meat. The logo looks disturbingly similar :/

 @unconvinced:
It's a conspiracy man, saw it on info wars. Think about it. A meat company that also makes helmets? Hmmmm, I'll pass on the loafed meat. Meat In People's Skull. Stay away man, stay faaaar away.

In protest, I will not enter. Not until Bell provides us with a vegan-friendly alternative.

I own this helmet and have actually eaten most of it. It's surprisingly not bad...it just doesn't work *as well* now for crash protection.
  • 3 1
@sarahlh: maybe if you eat your crash helmet you should get crash protection from the other BELL crowd by wrapping your head in rump steak?

Its also a janitor supply and the logo is almost the same.

 What a liar

Wow, in ver.3 they made it actually fit human head without the need of removing the safety foam from inside (you could of course buy a too big helmet and compromise you safety even more) ...
In 4th iteration, MIPS will stop squeaking and they will call it Silent Fit TM.
  • 3 0
They aren't safety inserts, they are pain pads!
  • 4 0
My super 2r fits perfectly, I guess I'm in the minority
  • 4 0
Not their fault you have an egg head...

If I win this bad boy, I'm going to turn around and auction it off, then use the proceeds to donate to the BIR institute or the concussion foundation. I don't need it, and $250 could at least help a little to solve CTE or the likes...
  • 1 0
Actually it'll probably go to the Stevie smith legacy fund!
  • 5 1
@solidliz must be dead chuffed at winning, since she only joined the day before, and hasn't made any tangible contribution to PB. Laughing all the way!
  • 2 1
@truffy Just a newbie with some luck.

I had a Super 2R but broke it about 30 seconds into its first outing. Fell on the chin bar, it flexed meeting my face, my teeth took a chunk out of my lip for which I was told needed stitches (didn't in the end). Helmet + medical bills = $1250. Bell offered to let me buy a new one at 80 or 85% the retail value which I promptly turned down. Loved the idea but I'm sticking to a full DH helmet from now.
  • 2 0
Why are you paying over a grand in Canada for medical bills?
  • 3 0
@Jokesterwild: Maybe this is the wrong venue for this story. Didn't mean to be a party pooper but since you asked... I'm actually British and it was before I became a BC resident so the out of country fee to even be seen at the hospital was $1000 (out of province was $400). My travel insurance wouldn't cover it because it was during a DH race event. That part was my fault. I had emailed back and forth with the race organisers to find out if the helmet was acceptable for that event. The question went through 4 people but was still inconclusive by the day before the event. "Sure it's not fully DH UCI certified but a helmet with a chin bar must have it for a reason" I thought. "Just don't fall on your face!" Well, yeah... What struck me is that it was a pretty low speed / lame fall. The chinbar certainly saved my teeth and jaw (it was a write off) but obviously a full DH wouldn't have the same level of flex. Maybe I'm expecting too much but I figure if I'm going to have a chin bar at all it should be burly enough to keep my face from getting impacted from a practical standstill. Lesson learned. Y'all can downvote me if you like now Smile

@TomCastellani: thats why i purchased the met parachute.....i tried the bell in the shop and could deform the chinbar with relative ease using just my hands and minimal force.....sure theres some flex in the met but its comparable with my full face dh helmet and significcantly stronger than the bell...to any potential buyers of the bell do the same as me and im sure you will be suprised how easy it is to do. Just wish it was more acceptable round here to wear them as i still dont wear it enough if at all....

@TomCastellani: if your racing dh a trail helmet with a chin guard probably isn't your best bet.
  • 1 0
@allenfstar: Absolutely true, although it wasn't what I'd call a tough track it still wasn't the smartest decision I've made. This is aimed at the enduro market and there are easily enduro stages which are on par or tougher than that track, so I could have had a very similar crash in a different scenario and been more "in the right" for having done so. Just sharing my experience really of what a practical crash scenario rather than a lab test. I've seen people riding Whistler bike park wearing these so maybe they're as hopeful as I was but yet to find out what crashing onto one feels like.

What's with all the hate on the super 2r? I love mine
  • 1 0
i think they look fine but i personally didn't like the weak chinbar. I was dead set on buying one until i looked at it in the shop and gave it the hand squish test and thought blimey that's not very sturdy.....so that's why i opted for the met parachute. I know the met isn't perfect as you cant remove the chinbar but if you want a chinbar that will actually help then its the best option out there. Its very light too and very well vented. The only real negative is that you need smaller height goggles to fit it such as Oakley m-frames. If you use 100% or similar the large area above the eyes means the helmet is pushed too far back and then your chin can show as per the pinkbike review pics of the met. Took me a while to figure this out for myself. Now with Oakley m-frame goggles (which are quite cheap too) this fits perfectly but im guessing not many people know this fact.
  • 1 0
@rabidmonkfish: regardless you your squish test I've personally seen the super 2r take a failed dirt jump landing directly to the chin bar with no injury or damage to the helmet. To me for a trail helmet that has the benefit if not smashing your face when necessary plus being able to run the largest frame goggles possible when I am downhilling, there really isn't a down side to the super 2r
  • 1 0
@allenfstar: but i would take the fact that the chinbar on the bell is weaker than the met parachute of a bigger concern than being able to use slightly larger goggles but to each there own. I have to admit i do also like the styling of the one in the comp here.

Ok this is the one I’m gonna win.
