Not really that confusing. "The Pivot allows your bike rack (up to a loaded NV 2.0 4-Bike) to effortlessly swing away, providing ample clearance for tailgates, rear gates or just increasing your hatchback access."
Not 100% sure what I'm looking at here. Is it a rack for your rack? But comes with no final bike rack, so if you win, you have to buy one of theirs... not the greatest prize ever but it's (sort of) free, so i'll quit moaning now.
@macross87: It looks like it would work for anything using a 2 inch receiver. I hate having to climb over my rack to get into the bed of my truck this would be awesome.
@Rigidjunkie: Agreed. I think this would be even better for the SUV and wagon crowd. FYI, for tailgate clearance, I went to a local fab shop and got a 12" extension fabbed up in "male-female" configuration so it would slot into my hitch, then push the rack off the back. With nice heavy steel, I have hung 3 fullys off the back, and can totally drop my tailgate and get the dog in and out. A fairly inexpensive solution, plus I got to go the fab shop which is always a good time! Fairly easy for them to make, and you will love the result!
@ismasan: Their heads will explode when they A: see how small it is and B: when they realise it's not even the smallest car in their range! Always have a giggle at US tourists in their hire cars wondering how we manage with such small vehicles.
@DaMilkyBarKid: As small as it is though, I treat it like a van and a lot of the time I go riding there's 2 DH bikes, 2 persons worth of gear, tools etc and big bags of food in it and there's still room!
@haroman666: Ok, I'm cheating here. I've got a Clio Estate, I think from late 2014 or so (bought it used last year). I can easily get two bikes (up to 15kg each) on the roof and two bikes (up to 30kg each) on the tow bar. And then I've got the complete interior available for gear and company. So yeah, that's good enough to go on a trip with four riders. My previous car (a 2007 Peugeot 107) didn't have a tow bar (and if it did get one, it wouldn't be certified to actually tow anything so that'd be merely for a bike rack). Still with that car I could get two bikes on the roof. Max roof load was 50kg so it could even take three lightweight bikes if I'd get another rail for a bike on there.
@haroman666: Sounds like my dirt cheap -98 Ford Fiesta. Also that fits 2 DH bikes, 2 DJ bikes and 2 persons with gear and all essential stuff. It is entertaining to see faces of people when unloading the car at some bike park.
I agree! I have a Thule 4 bike platform rake that would work with this. It's not brand specific. All you need is a two inch receiver. Would make life easy to access the back of any vehicle. The PB trolls are angry today.
@beirge294: Yep, I dont understand all the complaining. I could lift my hatch with a shuttle rack full of bikes on it. Buying this if I dont win it anyway
Bonus: you could, in theory, attach your plate to this and leave your rack on if you live in a place with tough laws on license plate visibility. It would peek out underneath
There's a period where the winners have to accept the prize before we can announce winners, so that process takes a bit of time to firm up. Normally we run a post that includes all the winners, just keep an eye on your Pinkbike and email inbox to see if you have won.
for all the non americans apparently "Tailgating, which originated in the United States, often involves consuming alcoholic beverages and grilling food. Tailgate parties occur in the parking lots at stadiums and arenas, before and occasionally after games and concerts"
All this stuff is free, todays prize is pretty rad and I knew what I was looking at the second it popped up. I had a older co-worker that once said to me, "Some people would complain about getting hung with a new rope". Some of todays comments apply sadly.
I'd use it ~ it's a PIA to bang my shins on the damn rack sometimes and getting things loaded up, swinging the rack out of the way so I can park my butt and drink a bear would indeed be handy.
I have a Kuat bike rack, bought it to replace a cheaper one after reading reviews. The thing has more movement than I'd like, I can only imagine what would happen by putting something between it and my car....
They need to give the option as which way you want it to swing out. i have a rear swing out bumper on my 4Runner and the tire carrier swings out to the right making this upgrade unless, bummer
I wonder if you can flip it over. Might have to remove and flip the red lever too. Looking at it, if it were upside down then your rack would be on the lower square tube instead of the upper square tube. Might be too close to the ground, but maybe not with a 4Runner.
@Endurahbrah: thought about that but it would probably limit ground clearance. i got a aftermarket bumper to increase clearance and my bike comes on lots of offroad trips with me. Gonna check out what dude suggested below
I have one of these for our sprinter van. Allows access to the back doors with my one up rack on the back. Mine however came from Rak attach, who kuat very obviously stole this design from. Bummer when someone takes a small made in america design and product and totally rips it off.
Well in that case, my bad, and that’s awesome to hear. Been a happy rak attach owner for a long time and it bummed me out seeing an almost exact replica.
Everyone's displaying the wrong emotions: "Is it wrong to intentionally make others envious? Probably."...........The emotion you're looking for is "envy".
What in the actual fu$k was the Kuat marketing team thinking when they decided to make a random component like this their prize? #Missedmarketingopportunitybro
WTF are you talking about. I have one and take it off road all the time, with a 4-bike Thule T2 attached. Gets the bike out of the way to get access to our camper, or your van, if that's your thing.
It's a great product if you want access to the back of your vehicle with bikes back there.
Good job going cheap on this one, Kuat.
That's WTF. This thing is badass if you want access to the back of your vehicle with your bikes loaded on a rack.
could have just bought one

p.s.: 1999 megane here

another gift from the USA to the world!
