ugh, i HATE oil slick. *enters prize draw anyways*
  • 8 4
 agreed
  • 28 0
That's okay a month of smashing them on rocks and you'll barely be able to tell they were oil slick in the first place
  • 9 2
Honestly, at this point, anyone publicly hating on oil slick is probably doing so to give themselves a better shot at purchasing said colour before its sold out.
  • 3 0
It does have a higher resale value tho...
  • 15 5
in my opinion oil slick details on your bike are amazing.
  • 3 1
@Manglerino: jup details like screws n stuff … i got myself a nice oilslick stem and after being stoked initially i now wish it was black
  • 4 0
If oil slick glides off of rocks, I’m all in
  • 4 0
@Manglerino: I'm fine with just the SRAM quick link on my chain, thanks.
  • 1 0
But my 13yo will not care. I would give my prize to him.
  • 2 0
Send like the only thing available for giveaway is oil slick
  • 1 0
 Seems like.. auto fail
  • 3 0
Oilslick stickers are even more ridiculous. Small oil slicked bolts are kind of cool though.

Here for the, "I've never won anything on Pb, so these contests must just be a paid ad" comments.
  • 14 0
A myth past down generations. One day a hero shall rise and give u hope that its a contest, for now only the dark ages of paid ads.
  • 4 1
I wonder if only the dentists win these contests?
  • 12 0
If I ever win anything I will post about it on PB so people know it's legit
  • 10 0
@sandiegotrent: no, it's only the wives, first cousins, and brothers-in-law of the highest seated dental executives who win McDonald's Monopoly...I mean Pinkbike contest...prizes.
  • 3 0
Well I won a bike and I'm working on a PhD, so will technically be a Dr. - but not to become a dentist.
  • 2 0
@imnotdanny: i will do that to. thats smart
  • 1 0
I’m curious if it’s ONLY for Pinkbike users, or if CB is giving away 3 sets in total and everybody can advertise on whatever forum, website or whatever. Spread that advertising around if you know what I mean?

I’m sure it says somewhere in the details, but I can’t be bothered to read it.
  • 1 0
 @sandiegotrent: didn't I win these last week?....
  • 1 0
 @ceecee: I dunno. Did ya?
  • 1 0
@sandiegotrent: nope. But if I can't sign up this Wednesday cuz I'm already signed up for last Wednesday, what happened last Wednesday--didn't it end? The contest isn't called 'Win It Each Wednesday' or 'Win It This Wednesday,' and the winners do appear to be announced every three Wednesdays, so I'm just going to think of it as 'Win It Wednesdays' tho I'll never win

So I'm guessing I'm in the minority of the people who kinda like oil slick?
  • 14 0
I am on team oilslick. I have the lacondeguy vaults on my otherwise almost all black jump bike and they look dope, the finish isn't very tough though and you get corrosion creeping under it from the laser etched logos. I am on my second set after the first were replaced and they are doing the same thing.
  • 17 0
 I like oil slick
  • 6 0
Yup, and I am in the even smaller, more special, more awesomer minority that loves it. So there.

So much more special than you "Kinda like it" people Wink
  • 13 0
If it's done right it looks amazing. Works as a great highlight to a stealthed out bike.
  • 7 0
I can go either way on oil slick, but I personally LOVE it on those Mallets.
  • 9 1
better than all the teal and mustard going around. i'm into it.
  • 8 0
@Sweatypants: Teal can be pretty... Mustard should only go with fast food.
  • 2 0
@rosemarywheel: can be, but it depends what its being paired with. there's been enough Yeti color combos and Gulf livery color combos to last a lifetime.
  • 2 0
I like the look of it on its own, but it doesn’t really seem to go with anything.
  • 3 0
Don't love it, but don't hate it either... I think it can look pretty cool on dark bikes, sadly mine is flash yellow (lol)
  • 3 0
I like it for little details like bolts and stuff but I don't think I'd want an oil slick chain or something like that.
  • 10 0
I like it but I have to pretend I don't to fit in on here
  • 2 0
I like it. But I can also wear a pink shirt, and a man bun (if paid well to do it).
  • 3 0
Personally I like a snail trail finish...but oil slick is a close second
  • 1 0
@Sweatypants: I don't mind the Yeti colors, but thats more of a bright, happy yellow. I like Transition Bikes, but the 2021 Sandy yellow they use? No.
  • 3 0
@ultimatist: I have a man bun every day and there’s nothing bad about it. I also own like 5-10 pink shirts, which I wear pretty often and I don’t get bullied about it
  • 1 0
@ANT-MOUNTAiNBiKER: then you clearly love oil slick =)
  • 1 0
@ANT-MOUNTAiNBiKER: I only have one... but I love that shirt.
  • 2 0
 FUCK YEAH OIL SLICK EVERYTHING
  • 3 0
@ultimatist: I think it looks good but it depends on the Colour of the bike
  • 1 0
I kinda like it too. I couldn’t commit to it on one of my bikes, but when I built my daughters park bike I put an oil slick stem and sprocket on it. They look great with the trans purple frame.
  • 1 0
 @bdub5696: Pictures, Mate?
  • 1 0
@rosemarywheel: honestly, but don’t even know how to post pics to a thread on this site.
  • 1 0
@rosemarywheel: they’re under my profile now. Didn’t see anywhere else to post them.
  • 1 0
@bdub5696: Cool! I will go look.
  • 1 0
@bdub5696: Also, you can't post to comment sections so no worries. You can on forum threads, though.
  • 40 0
These would look great paired with the DT Swiss oilslick hubs I also didn’t win
  • 51 12
the oil slick disease spreads faster than goddamn covid
  • 20 4
Are you suggesting oil slick isn't real?
  • 16 1
I know some people hate them, but I think the oil slick look is so good. I think the only thing better is that copperized finish (whatever it's called).
  • 14 0
These will go great on my golden pole.
  • 1 0
 Oil Slick Willy
  • 14 0
 These pedals look slick.
  • 9 0
Legend says the oil helps the pedals slip over rocks
  • 8 0
So many people talking shit on PB contests, oil slick, Crank Brothers... MAN I’d be so stoked to win these!!! I want them so bad but can’t justify the money when my current Mallet’s still work. PICK ME, I’LL APPRECIATE THE SHIT OUT OF IT!!
  • 5 0
With so many people claiming to "hate oilslick", then entering the contest anyway -- I think everyone is just "in the closet" loves oilslick. hahaha
  • 1 0
 This!
  • 4 0
 Finally got me this time.

I clicked the "Yes, I would like to receive news and information from Crankbrothers" box.

Damn.
  • 2 0
Why do my oil slick mallet e pedals not have the chamfered edge like all the other mallets? I have emailed crank brothers a number of times about this and have not gotten an answer. Maybe I'll get one here?

In the photos they have the leading corner chopped off as expected, but not in real life. More and harsher rock strikes are the result. What gives?
  • 1 0
From what I’ve seen, the outside edge is still chamfered, it’s just not a raw machined finish as the oil slick coating process needs to be applied evenly across the body. It’s should be the exact same shape as every other Mallet E. If you still think it’s off, I would suggest shooting a quick email with photos to info@crankbrothers.com !
  • 3 1
@aj-allen97: definitely off, here is an old one and the oil slick one, opposite pedal up against each other.
photos.app.goo.gl/6eFF3kRwBpqqvsCD7
  • 2 0
@aj-allen97: In case you are interested I got a response:

So after showing the picture to the team, you are right. The product manager didn't disclose that we couldn't chamfer the oil slicks specifically because of the coating process. The story goes we did the process and the oil slick was not passing out test for durability longevity (chipping after the process)

And from my understanding, the Oil slick production is very intricate and we won't be doing more from the sounds of it. So everyone with oil slick Mallets are sitting on very limited product

Hope this clears up your questions

@PTyliszczak: Ah, makes sense. Good eye!
  • 4 0
i love oilslick if you have something to match it, if not it doesn't look good.
  • 7 4
Can't stress how much I don't want these pedals. Hope they go to a good home!
  • 6 0

  • 1 0
they do be looking so sick also i am a huge fan of yours. You are the coolest person on the planet
  • 2 0
I think oilslick would look so sick on my bike, I have the lacondeguy grips with purple lockons and they would look so sick together. I am on team oilslick

someone explain to me how these contests work. how does just entering my name give pb or crankbrothers a way to contact me? There's gotta be a better way, like enter your email or something.
  • 2 0
You have to be a member in order to even enter. They’ll message you in your Pinkbike inbox and if you’re like me, when I get a message in my Pinkbike inbox I get an email to my normal gmail letting me know.
  • 1 0
@islandforlife: hm. Ok..this makes sense now.
  • 1 0
Dear Crankbrothers, I just got a new bike but the Stamp 2 pedals I've ordered won't arrive until July. Could you please hook me up with the win so I get to ride asap?
Kind regards/ Happy MTBer
  • 1 0
Just bought flat pedal shoes this afternoon... these would be perfect to go along! I need to work on my riding skills so going away from clipping in for the summer.
  • 1 0
I just scooped up a set of the large flats in oil slick. GRRRRReat pedals!! I don't get the hate on oil slick?? I think it's pretty sick!!
  • 3 0
Only a matter of time before a company makes an oil slick frame
  • 1 0
You have to chrome plate it first before putting on oil slick finish?
  • 1 0
 that would be sick
  • 1 0
@seanb4 they do. Walmart sells them, but idk who makes them.
  • 2 0
