I don't want to be that guy but. The winning entry used copyright protected assets. The competition details stated that you had to exclusively use the audio and video provided. The user license agreement also stated you needed permission to use anything you used in the edit.

 true!
  • + 8
Valid point. The whole "Be creative within this extremely tight window we give you that forces everyone to make a generic GahPrah edit." is weird anyway. Giving the prize to someone going against the rules is even weirder.

Congrats to the winner anyway. He won.
  • + 5
@JoeRSB: yes, that is true i really think they should take a closer look at the edits, looks like they didnt pu that much effort in at choosing them.
  • + 3
Agreed. The guy that won was definitely the most creative, but I wonder how many more people would have tried that of we knew the rules weren't being taken seriously. If gopro does this contest again they will have to do something to add more variety.

The edits they posted a week or two ago to remind us to cut these things were infinitely better than these cuts. Yes, the Smash Bros edit is creative, but it clearly violated the contract that you have to electronically sign, so therefore it should 100% be disqualified. I wish all of this didn't sound like all of us were just being butthurt sore losers, but com'on @GoPro and @Pinkbike! You clearly broke your own rules! It's almost like you didn't watch any of the submissions after the first week this was open.

Just for fun, here's mine. Hope ya'lls like it. www.pinkbike.com/video/491099

@curvedwallride: very very true! thanks for that.
  • + 1
@curvedwallride: Exactly, I submitted an edit, but felt very constrained by the rules, so it wasn't as creative as it could have been. The music alone had to be a big red flag!
  • + 1
Yep, it's under the WARRANTIES subsection. "You have all rights and licenses necessary to grant to GoPro and Pinkbike the rights granted in the Edit and Appearances, including but not limited to rights to synchronize any master recording and or composition used to video , images, video, audio, photos, text, or other material embedded within the Edit, and You will pay any and all third parties who may be entitled to a royalty or fee"
  • + 2
This is so true. He probably works for GoPro anyways so it's all a stich up.
  • + 2
@curvedwallride: Wow. I didn't read that far into the documentation. If the winner ends up having to pay Nintendo's royalties this will get really interesting/sad.
  • + 23
Wow! Three strikes and you're out GoPro. Those were pathetic.
  • + 5
I didn’t think my submission would be worthy of winning anything but now that I see the winning videos it’s blatantly obvious to see that many of us were robbed of recognition due to lack of serious judging and enforcement of the competition rules. This is a major un-professional move on GoPros and Pinkbikes behalf resulting in a competition subject to blurry rules and people winning large sums of prize money by what virtually appears to be through “the luck of the draw”. Just wanted to show some appreciation for all those who took this the Comp seriously and hope when @GoPro run competitions like this in future they can be held accountable to their own terms and conditions.
  • + 3
couldn't have said it better, good job mate.
  • + 8
lol Some kid went crazy with the special effects.
  • + 2
Congrats to the winners! Would be cool to see the other edits since a lot of folks put good effort into them. Share your cuts! Win or not, it was fun to work on and worth sharing with others.

Obviously the first place put a lot of work and creativity into that, but the 2nd and 3rd place were super generic, nothing special about them. I hope I don't sound douchey but I thought I really had a chance to win something with mine: www.pinkbike.com/video/492027
Oh well, I guess we'll try again in the 3rd round.
  • + 1
 I dig it.
  • + 2
Yea your edit flows much better and tbh Im not a fan of the overdone special effects
  • + 0
@EliasFritzen: thats where all the edits should be won, the creative special effects.
  • + 1
@mtbshaddy: Hmm not really, but that just comes down to personal preference... some people prefer clean cut to the music and others crazy flashing, cartoons and text all over the place, but like I said that's personal preference.
  • + 1
@EliasFritzen: that pretty much means everyone can win this contest, just chuck some clips together and slap music on it :')
  • + 3
@mtbshaddy: That is the exact definition of this competition! Anyone can win, everyone has the same starting point, see who can make the best end product.

Obviously the judging is going to be very subjective as there is no concrete definition of "best".
  • + 1
@geuben: but this contest should be really hard and they should have picked edits that people put alot of effort into, 2nd and 3rd were just sad im afraid Frown
  • + 1
@mtbshaddy: In my opinion the most difficult way to stand out in this edit contest is to not even use silly special effects, and thats exactly what I went for. Because nobody actually edits their videos with ridiculous effects like that in the real world, so it becomes much harder to make something memorable when you are restricted like that. I put about 20 hours of work into mine. (yes I know that was a bit much)
  • + 1
@boostmaster: you have a point but, i have used similar effects in IFHT editing contests and won the audience choice award and got 4th overall, also won signed gloves off dangerboydeegan so thats why i thought i could have had a chance at winning this contest thats all.
  • + 3
2nd and 3rd place were very basic. i hope you can look at mine and make 2nd thoughts about that since the effort they put in were very minimal.

WOW.... I hope they didnt miss your edit because that should atleast be 2nd place! the effect, flow, creativity and the overall editing was INSANE!
  • + 2
Something seems a little shaddy about this
  • + 1
@Uhlrichl1: not at all, we are brothers thats all aha
  • + 1
Let’s hope PinkBike run an edit competition again so I can try my luck once more! I was tight on time to make the edit but here it is: m.pinkbike.com/video/491964
Tell me what you think!

I hope @lymeathlete took the screen name because they’re from the town in CT and not because they’ve had the spirochete! Either way, congrats and enjoy the sick new whip!

 Hi @catfish9797

I am totally stoked on the bike. I will be picking the groms brains at my local pump/jump park to learn this bike (I come from an all mountain and x-country background).

Unfortunately for me, I did contract Lyme Disease. I went undiagnosed for nine months, but I was very fortunate on having the right people around me (one of them has Lyme and told me to get tested, my life would be completely different without her. I owe my life to her) to kick the disease before it hit the chronic stage (1 year). There are no words to describe the pain and suffering.

Lyme Athlete will become a for-profit and a non-profit as well in the future. It will be geared towards athletes (but accessible to all) as the name implies.

Here is the video I submitted and my second time editing a video: www.pinkbike.com/video/492092

Don't want to sound salty but whats the difference between my edit and the second place?

  • + 4
Same dude no offense to the 2nd and third place people they were decent edits but they were both pretty generic and not much to differentiate them from most other peoples as low keybsalty as i am still stoked for those guys who won its sick gopro are giving away a decent sum of money and a bike just for some editing comp
