100 Women Took Over A-Line with Micayla Gatto - Crankworx Whistler 2017

Sep 13, 2017
by Pinkbike Staff

During Crankworx 2017, A-Line was shut down to all but the ladies while Liv Giant hosted a women's only event down the world famous trail. Micayla Gatto takes to the trail to catch up with the ladies that were riding and cover this fantastic day.

It's not that we don't feel fine riding next to the guys... A-Line is so damn busy that it's hard to get speed for anything when you're constantly pulling off trail for the hundreds of people who ride it daily. Being able to ride it without worrying who's behind you was fn rad. I'd never ridden it before, and never would have if not for this event.

10/10 to LIV for this ridiculously cool opportunity. I'll be back next year.

Personally, I think there needs to be allowance for slower riders (slow being a relative term to whoever is riding behind you). It's not fair, nor should it be expected for people to always pull over, just for the reason you mentioned. Everyone paid the same amount for the lift ticket, and everyone deserves to ride the trail and carry some flow, uninterrupted. respect and consideration should be handed BOTH ways. I do realize this is a hard thing to mediate, but people need to try - and not get stuffed up and bent out of shape by someone not opting to pull over.

Personally, I'm usually someone who tell's (shouts at) whoever is in front of me NOT to pull over. And sometimes I may act like a cheerleader (regardless of the gender of the person in front of me). I like to be stoked, and I like other people to feel the same way.

Why do women need their own day to ride the trail. No matter your gender, if youre not good enough to ride the trail, dont fucking ride it
  • 22 5
@FLATLlNE: thanks for being cool enough to get it. I agree. It's hard af to progress on a trail when you have to stop so much you can't clear jumps. I'm not fast or particularly great at biking but I'd be faster and better if I could ride trail top to bottom every once in a while.

@Inuit: Yeah, we should have a similar event here in Germany. Close up, for example, the Geißkopf Flow Country trail, and say only for boys since we do not want to be pestilenced by slow girls. Sounds ridiculous? Its the same bullshit we see in the video, just reversed. Turning this whole "setup" around shows how f*cking ridiculous it really is.

I NEVER EVER had the feeling that my wife was intimidated by faster riders or was "constantly pushed to the side" or asked for "help and advice from female riders". Its all a lot of Bull****. It does not matter if you have balls or tits, we all enjoy the same sport. We dont have to gender everything.

@WrenchRy87: @goldfish3 @oragejuice "Goldfish" just made a new account to trash women... look at their comments about Pivot rider Emilie Siegenthaler, calling her a terrible rider. Grow a pair (of whatever) and own up to your sexist opinions under your normal account. Emilie and Micayla can no-doubt shred harder than that wad.
  • 10 4
@goldfish3: because a lot of women are ashamed somebody could see them failing and laughing about them. And its still not enough women in this sport. Especially in every other country than canada. an other point, you won't get better if you dont try. So you f*cking ride that trail till you clear it.
  • 9 1
@Tarka: there was a guy trashing rachel atherton when she crashed in TT, and other women as well, his account was suspended... im gonna go out on a limb here and say same guy?

@Helmchentuned: Glad to hear political correctness does not exist in Germany.

@FLATLlNE: @FLATLlNE: I'm tired of carebear culture like this...it's the same in every sport...when you're at the bottom of the food chain you respect those above you; you earn your spot among other better riders and you certainly don't deserve to f*ck the flow of the trail up for everyone else. There are plenty of other easier jump trails if A-line is too hard for you...

Let's be real, you don't need to be a park rat to maintain proper flow on A-line, and anyone who is struggling is likely struggling because of confidence issues. If you don't have the skill necessary, gtfo.

Go learn to surf and you'll quickly realize that you are at the BOTTOM of the food chain in the line up and are treated as such.

Fact is, most scrubs out on the trails DO NOT pull over when they are being tailed. I'm seeing a lot of comments here from people who are frustrated that they constantly have to pull over...where are you when I'm on the track?
  • 9 12
Guys and gals, ignore the little goldfish. Clearly, he has some sort of small guy complex, and should proceed to go jump in a fire. Addressing him only serves to sidetrack an important point, sharing the trail fairly, which transcends gender IMHO. There should be equality amongst ALL trail users, and neither women or those perceived as slow (women or men) should be perceived or perceive themselves as inferior.
  • 16 9
@nvranka: Ah, there's the big fish complex. Thanks for bringing it out to play. Please note I did say respect/courtesy goes both ways. There are people who will ride A line for their first time, where the trail may be on the cusp of their ability, and yep, they might just slow you down - but they have every right to be on the trail if it's sensibly in their ability range - even if their ability is not compatible to yours. You are NOT superior just because you can throw a mean whip "bruh". Hate to break it to ya.

And the only time you feel you're at the bottom of the food chain, is when you let someone else make you feel that way. In it's simplest form, it's bullying, really.

I've encountered this stuff plenty in the last 20 years in skateboarding, biking, and climbing - all of which I do or have done at a pretty high competency level. I hate it - and most times, I'm apt enough to be able to handle myself with a sharp exchange of words. I've got a good buddy however, ex military, one very very nasty tour in Afghanistan, real bad PTSD. He hates it too, and I've watched him pummel people on trail, at the crag, and actually at the gym (yeah, we were thrown out) for giving him flack for being "not good enough" or a beginner. Needless to say, he doesn't to well with intimidation/bullying. He boulders double digits now, for reference and also surfs pretty well too but never too to biking. So I guess...sometimes your lip can get you in trouble - just a word of wisdom - don't think just because you're good at activity X just lets you be a trailside mouth piece, it may catch up to you.

Respect, common courtesy, and a little common sense, and I think we can all keep some flow.
  • 18 8
@FLATLlNE: I'm not nescisarily trying to make it a gender thing. I just don't believe in special privileges for groups due to traits we have no control over. I think @Helmchentuned had a really good point where if the situation would be reversed, everyone would freak out. Why can't everyone just ride together and nobody gets discluded from riding? if you want to go to a jump trail and roll every jump, don't do it on A-line. And if someone in front of you is riding slow just pull over at the next stop and give them some space. We don't need special privileges for riders based on gender, riding level, ect

If a truly "representative" squirrel catcher feature still existed, based purely on the comments from the people interested in trying this trail for the first time below, this event could never have happened, and if it did, it'd defeat the point of having a squirrel catcher in the first place. Get super comfortable on b-line, then you're ready to give a-line a go, without holding people up, same goes for the dudes.
  • 11 14
@goldfish3: You're starting to sounds half-sensible in some of what you are saying.

Unfortunately, men have done themselves in with hundreds if not thousands of years of patriarchy, douchery, and debauchery. We've been the ones in privilege, dude. Things are not really equal, and I don't blame a single woman if they think men don't always play nice. If they want to close a single trail for a day to encourage women to come out and have a stronger presence - freaking have at it. YOU DESERVE IT. It's impossible to get my girl to come DH with me, but she'll go for a women's clinic or session - and to be that's huge. I see the value in it, and I support it. If you don't, that's fine I guess, but I hope to see more of it because it's positive imho.

And perhaps we don't need privilege...but we could use a little fairness, across all shades - and it seems like you get that? Despite what people seem to think, cycling is not some exclusive club, there aren't ranks. I agree that people should use judgement to ride trails within reason, and progress sensibly. Obviously no one should roll A-line at a creep, and roll every jump, but if you're going at a good pace and making an honest effort to clear jumps - you belong, period.

You nailed it on the head with one of your comments. The faster rider can always stop too, and give the slower rider some space. That's ace - thank you.

@FLATLlNE: I have never read such shit in my life!! Its true that there has been discrimination against women but that was something that evolved over thousands of years and is an argument that has been won. you are looking at the past through the prism of the present. I know so many women that ride horse with broken arms, legs, ruptured spleens and broken backs and they still ride. Put a women on a horse and ask her to ride A-line and she will drop you!

This is all about LIV trying to promote itself!

To date there has been no dialogue on mens rights - that is something that is coming and is something that both men and women need to wake up to.

Mountain biking is an inclusive sport. Its not a men only or women only sport its just biking and both sexes have equal rights!

@Prof: "To date there has been no dialogue on mens rights..."

Are you f**ing kidding me? Now you are going to play the victim's card saying that men are losing rights and women are having more rights?

Events like this one are not only good for women but for the entire industry! But I guess you and that retard @goldfish3 are too worried about having A-line closed for a few hours while "silly girls are riding our trails stealing our rights as fast, macho riders"

If both of you are that much of super fast riders, then go and session Crab apple hits or D. Johnson or D1 for a couple of runs and when A-line opens again after the event you go back and show the rest of us how fast you are. I don't see you complaining about having A-line closed for the Air DH race. Or let me guess, did you race it with the pros?

There are so many trails in that mountain that you can take your insecurities and ride Garbo for a few hours and when you are done you are still going to be the same big man you are.

  • 3 1
@whitebullit: and in the case of a rape, or a non-concensual intercourse? Should a woman not have a choice? Because that's actually where it's going.

And you are telling me a woman shouldn't have the right to make the call on her own body if the pregnancy is a safety concern, or serious defects detected early on in the fetus? You are saying a woman doesn't have the right to make the choice then?

Not all situations are the same and not all end up having to make that choice because they were irrisponsible. But, it seems a large chunk of America wants to lump all woman in that category - and it's your narrow minded kind that will allow it to happen.
  • 3 4

I don't get it... they needed a day to ride A-line without the guys going fast and pushing them off the trails? I'm a guy and not particularly fast down A-line. In fact, most the local women are faster than I am. And apparently there were pro ladies out there riding as well? So basically they're mixing pro riders with non-pros, but they're all females? Do they not understand that gender does not equal speed?? I think it's a cool event to do, especially for promoting females in mtb, but maybe if the point is to encourage the slower riders to get a feel for A-line (I know how that is, I was very intimidated my first few times down because I didn't want to be THAT guy slowing everyone down on a flow trail) they should do an amateur's event. I'm sure that there are newer male riders that would appreciate a chance to get a feel for the trail without being pressured to go faster. I hate the way everything gets separated by gender. I have seen some seriously fast lady riders out there, it's not just guys that know how to go fast.

Regardless, I think it's an awesome event that brought a lot of lady-riders out for a fun day on the hill.
  • 5 0
@FLATLlNE: I am pretty slow and not getting faster at 44. I will stop at a section and wait for a gap. If there are other riders getting ready to go, I either wait for them, or tell them they should wait a minute as I am pretty slow. The only time I have ever had an issue was a couple of rats on A Line this summer who I told as I was dropping into the last section (they were BSing) they should wait a minute. They got stuck behind me the last couple of turns and were bitching loudly how their run was ruined. My view, tough shit, I told them.

I do pull off line when I hear riders come up behind me and there is a section I can do so. Almost all give a polite thanks. Unfortunately, there are always rude and selfish people everywhere and I can see how that can discouraging.

I think in the end, we should try to figure out why women may feel indimidated and how to make the experience more welcoming. We are getting more young children and families into the sport and I am sure most guys would love to get more women riding. One though is to have an hour during the day that is designated on a run for slower riders that want to try it, practice, get better, move up. It could be rotated on different runs for different times during the day. Just my two cents, which with inflation is worth little.

@Gambit14: I don't work for Liv, so I can't tell you for certain, but the point wasn't to get "slow beginnings ladies on the trail". Yes we were mixed with pros, but there were 100 of us lapping in groups, each group ended up with a couple of coaches, and we all went at a pace we were comfortable with, and no-one on the trail was out of their ability level. IN GENERAL (caps for emphasis because you'll find a way to turn it around for your benefit) women are much better at waiting in between groups, giving each other space, taking breaks off the side to let other groups pass, and being extremely polite through all of it. That was the point of this event, women encouraging each other to progress without distraction.
  • 5 0

@oragejuice: "lol go ahead and tell yourself that. Bottom line here is, if you aren't a woman, you don't know what it's like and you can't speak for us."

How dare you? You sanctimonious, prejudiced asshat. You're so arrogant that you think you are only person that can make comparisons and judge others, but how dare someone return the favour. How dare a man talk about something like this, but I bet if I trawled your social media, even PB, you'd have opinions on things that, by your statement above, you're not qualified to comment.

YOU are the problem on the trails, YOU are the problem with inclusivity and equality. Your victim chip must be getting heavy now.

The exact same thing happens to male riders of lesser ability. Exactly the same thing. Performance sports are inherently clique, where those of the same ability group tend to stick together, unless their grouping has more in common than ability, like friendships for example. Humans are tribal animals, and unfortunately sometimes better ability creates an arrogance and insular attitude, it's not cool or right but it happens. But to judge all male riders like this, that is also the height of arrogance and downright as insulting as people insinuating or plainly saying women are shit riders.

I fear for the sport, the hobby I love as it very quickly becomes another gender battleground, instead of working together to improve attitudes and access for greater numbers of riders to participate, of all genders. Although this event is a good idea, what has it done to break down those barriers? Nothing, it has done nothing, the problem of attitude and respect on the trails hasn't been addressed.

Riding together promoting a culture of unity, founded on mutual respect and tolerance is what works. If this event had loads of wobblers of both genders, getting to know each other, encourage each other, forming friendships; that will break down those barriers and encourage more women to the trails.
  • 6 1

The event was awesome to see, but in terms of encouraging more women to the trails, it's gutless, there's no substance to it. The issues of attitude and respect, or the lack of still exist, there are absolute tits on bikes of both genders, just like there is in any other hobby or walk of life.

The way to combat that is unity of action. Not this exclusivity pity party that it is becoming. That further entrenches positions.

@dhmoose: precisely, saying "we want to get more people out there on the trails, let's have a day that excludes a bunch of people" just defies logic to me.

I HATE the fact that I constantly find categorisation 'women-men' in place of 'begginers-advanced' in this sport. Women are treated as second-class riders just because they're women, regardless of their skills. And when people see a girl riding better than the boy they're like "WOW", but the opposite is obvious - that's painfully unfair for both sides.
Events like this do not help to improve the image of women riders - they rather confirm this f*cking stereotype that girls need some special treatment to catch up with boys. While they just need to stop being treated as mentally or physically retarded for mtb!
I don't think the whole idea of 'women's day' is wrong, but this ridiculous argumentation! "to give them the opportunity to catch the flow"! WTF?
What about slower men? And what about fast women - how should they feel about this?

@RedRedRe: We're not competing for time splits. We're trying to find a way to find a solution for trail use. For competition, sure, make classes for age, weight, skill level, and gender.
  • 4 2
You're losing the forest for the trees here.

Stop being salty and stop reading in-between the lines--just use some basic common sense. I didn't see a single sad face in the video--just a buncha girls happy to ride!!

I can't understand why anybody has anything negative to say about this..... ಠ_ಠ
  • 6 1
@Ron-C: The solution should be just ride the trail that matches your skill level. Men, dogs, women, whatever...
Riding a certain trail just because is a "must", without having the basic skills is not fun for other users and definitely not fun for the challenged rider. People just wake up in the morning, buy a bike and wanna be up there with people have been training for years. However this is a bike park-only problem, never had this issue in real trails.
Step by step, earn your meals.

@RedRedRe: Also in riding - horse riding Wink But I'm not talking here about competition categories 'men, women'. I'm talking about presenting a viedeo with some cheerful newbs trying their skills with a comment: "What happens when the LADIES get A-Line to themselves?". And then: "Good times and progression" Everything would be nice and fun, if this was a realation from 'Fresh Rider day' and 'lady' were not a synonym for 'beginner' (or 'noob'...)
I really long to see a video with some nicely shredding girls entitled like this.
  • 25 2
Rad. Hopefully more and more women will feel cool riding alongside the guys going forward too, it's no big secret there are plenty of us guys who are slow as hell so don't let that put you off!!
  • 22 2
It's cool and all, but are there not guys (and probably more guys than women) that are in the same boat as these women? I feel like making it "woman's only" is the wrong approach to this issue.
  • 2 0
It's 2017... One could probably get a wig and some femaninley colored kit and you're good to go!
  • 16 1
Stoked to help more women getting into riding and helping promote them.. But all this talk of closing a trail in the name of "allowing progression"... Isn't that litterally the reason that they have trails like Crank it Up where lesser skilled riders can work their way up to trails like Aline? Didn't they just talk about this exact thing in the last Trail Engaged video?
  • 20 3
"Inclusiveness" via "exclusiveness" oh the irony.
  • 14 6
For those of you complaining that this event should have been open to slower male riders or that these girls should ride other trails instead... get over yourself, it was for 3 hours and happens once a year. Let the girls do girl stuff.
  • 6 2
^^ This... and any events that promote the sport in a positive way are a good thing, regardless of gender. For all the dudes that have a problem with this event - huh?
  • 3 1
I think this is a fantastic promotional event, but I also think it's bs the way they separate men and women. There are fast women and slow men (me! haha) While I do believe that this event helps to promote ladies in mtb, I think that's all it should be advertised as. Selling it as a day to practice A-line without anyone fast on the trail is basically like saying that all the women aren't fast riders, when in fact they had newer riders and far more advanced riders sharing the trail, they were just all female. We should share the trail with this kind of respect for the other riders all the time, male or female. Don't push the person in front of you, no matter how slow they're going. We all pay the same for a lift pass so we all need to share the trails.

While I think the way they advertised the event was complete bs, it's awesome to see an event like this that encourages a large group of ladies to get out there and shred.
  • 2 0
Men are sick of being called misogynistic pigs by society for no good reason while there are sexist "women-only" events happening..

At the same time, women are demanding equal treatment all the while they receive special treatment.
  • 7 1
Waited to comment until I came home and asked my wife (and mother of our two daughters) her take. We agreed a slower rider, or noob session, would've been more appropriate. We also agree worldwide systemic patriarchy and misogyny is reality...but exclusivity in the name of inclusiveness comes off a bit silly. Also I wasn't riding during that 3hr window, but color me pissed off if the trail was closed while I held a perfectly good day pass after driving up there.
  • 10 3
Hey girls, I don't like meeting assholes and joeys too, I just don't have an excuse to close a trail off for them for a while. So lucky you ladies.
  • 4 0
I have to say, I feel like I could hold my own speed-wise down most of the whistler trails but there's always times when somebody comes up and RIDES your ass. It's hard because i'm also going fast yet now I have to try to not panic and pull over. I've never been down A-line and I wish I got to ride the ladies only liv day because it's probably something I won't ever ride otherwise. It's a big air, high speed trail meant for the people who ride it as such, sucks but hopefully there's more rides like this planned in the future (it doesn't even have to be for women)

Good on the girls who got out!
  • 3 0
It's not necessarily right to ride someone's ass, but as a slower rider than most people on some trails, I know I can't determine the flow of the trail with my speed disparity. I look back when I can, keep the headphones at home, and pull out of the way of faster traffic as soon as it's safe to. Just like I hope slower riders than me to do the same.
  • 12 6
They should do that for a couple of hours a week. I'd bring my daughters up for ladies day for sure
  • 3 0
Lighten the fu#k up people!!!, this was a perfect promotion for womens mountain biking, and thats what it was, a promo event, no different then shutting it down for the downhill race or a film shoot or enduro etc -- they shut it from 9 till 12 !!! .. 9 till 12 ....- a whole 3 hours! I aint ever been to Whistler but I am lead to believe there is more there than a-line!!!! and indeed that a-line is not the be all and end all or trails, so why the the shits given!!!
  • 1 1
The reason why people have their panties in a knot is not because of 3 hours out of the 8760 hours in a year...

It's because of hypocrisy.

You have women demanding equal treatment and equal payout in races..

ALL THE WHILE THEY ALSO DEMAND special treatment and sexist, exclusive events.

I know for certain that I have stirred my fare share of shit on this trail. One of the best comments from a friend of mine made sense. "It was like riding through a hornets nest following you, people were pissed". Passing is passing and in my eyes acceptable on A-line. However I do recognize that progression comes in so many ways. I was never the fastest guy by any means. Giving folks the ability to ride a trail without the stress of someone scaring the shit out of them sounds pretty rad to me. We have all been there. Maybe this trail needs a schedule for just that. Ladies I'm stoked that you enjoyed your time, Cheers!
  • 3 1
I definitely think its great that they do a womens day, although I think there is a common theme among both genders and easily identifiable > there are always slow riders on Aline. Unfortunately it seems that MALE slower riders seem to give less of a shit if someone comes up behind them. Again, each gender has their own underlying reactions. Both genders find ALINE intimidating DEPENDING on your level of skill.

I ride aline regularly, I can tell you right now that going the speed to clear the jumps, it can be downright dangerous coming up to a slow rider that doesnt know WHAT to do when someone behind them is faster. Not that they are slow, but the fact that they just freeze up can cause a lot of issues. Quite frankly, the squirrel catcher changes were a utter joke. And has put many riders in danger (on both ends of skill spectrum). Its just as dangerous for that beginner mtber to get on a high consequence trail like aline as it is for the faster rider to come hauling up to someone who doesnt have the acquired skills.

I think WBP made a downright DANGEROUS mistake making the squirrel catcher even slightly smaller. It would benefit everyone as a whole for whistler to come up with a solution to get in more progression and keep the absolute beginners of the trails such as Aline. I have come up to people who BLATANTLY shouldn't be on aline, it may sound pretentious and yes us as MTBers accept risks of collisions and such. But when someone who just starts out mtb decides "Aline" is the trail to head to because "Its AMAZING and WORLD CLASS" is only asking for trouble, and serious injuries to both parties.

For whatever reason people think that just because they paid for trail access they can get on any trail. I definitely dont think thats the case. If you care about your saftey AND the safety of others, there needs to be serious consideration into what trails are ridden at what point in your MTB riding career.

I found aline intimidating for ages, it took me a long time to work up to it and start clearing the jumps. Now that I can its absolutely awesome. But I think a more appropriate trail progression line needs to be defined to level out the risk curve.

Ive had so many close calls this year on aline, its very worrying actually. And quite frankly most of them could have been prevented and completely avoided with proper signage, rider education and rider ability progression.

Alines rad, everyone should ride it, but only when they are ready to be hitting jumps of that size (Slow speed, high speed whatever, there is a certain skill level required for jumps of that size no matter what).
  • 1 0
As a side note, what I was getting to is that if there was a better progression line up to aline (kind of like adding CMore to WBP finally!) I would hope women would feel WAY less intimidated getting onto trails like Aline. Because they then have a defined set of trails they can work up to Aline etc.

FYI, I kind of feel like Crank it up is a joke of a progression trail. At least CMore (Butts!) is a wicked start to the line of progression.

Women: We demand to be treated as equals.

Also women: We need our own days for shit because we can't handle being treated equally on normal days.

The irony is almost too good.

I just don't understand why the sport has to have woman only events ? whats the issue I have never seen or heard any man talk down to a woman on the trail. in fact its quite the opposite, I have only seen nothing but support?
  • 6 8
You don't get it cuz you're not a girl. I feel for them... in a way... but then... I just accept that I don't get it, let'em have it
  • 4 7
" I have never seen or heard any man talk down to a woman on the trail."

And because you personally have not witnessed it, all the women who claim to deal with it on a regular basis are liars? If you want to understand why there is a need for women-only events, talk to some women about it.

men like to talk down to other humans. It's in our genes. Men like women have pattern recognition system. Women are weaker by default - testosterone driving muscle and bone structure development - hey. Genes say hi again. Chance that a man will treat a women as "slower" are therefore high. It's logical. Some men manifest it in various ways, some don't at all. Can a woman feel weaker than a man? Statistically- yes. Should she be then treated as lesser rider? No.

Simply put: don't be a dick. Some men are, hence women want to avoid them. I personally despise dicks. With skill often comes perspective. You just don't talk down to a slower person when you know there are several skill levels above you. Only the really poor riders are so bad at what they do that they cannot see how bad they are. Kriger Dunning effect

@laxguy: ever heard of Flat Earth Theory? Or gender pronounce scandals? Donald Trump?

Common sense DOES NOT exist. It is the modern version of Neitzches saying: God is dead. People by average actually are stupid. Those who aren't are so occupied with not being stupid that they get little done. Which is stupid.

@WAKIdesigns: Unfortunately I'm alive right now and living through this f*cked up shit, day by day my faith in humanity slips further away..
  • 1 1
@laxguy: at the same time, head up mate. You would not like to live in 1940s, not even in 1970s. We live in the best places on Earth at this time in this part of the universe. It's genuinely the best time to be alive. In 50 years - who knows. Internet just exposes who we are, what crap has been hidden behind human facades. We learn at incredible pace. We still have our monkey brains making us talk stupid crap, behave like idiots, but if you think about it, if you went back in time, with some of our stuff, to middle ages, possibly even to 1700s you'd be a god. I mean, find some articles from 2008 on Pinkbike, you'll see how much we progressed.

It's good man. The worst part is always idealizing sht, believing in coming back to the Garden of Eden. It lowers the quality of your life significantly

So pumped for the women who got out and experienced this great trail. They should do days like this a lot more often as it only makes for better experiences for everyone on the mountain. I can not wait to get my daughter on to some of these trails, and I hope that she will look up to and aspire to be rad like her mum and other women ripping the park!

Absolutely right, the more riders we get the stronger the sport and community will be. That makes it better for all riders. If events like this help bring people into the sport, that's excellent.
  • 3 2
@Lwchin: not if man can't ride lol
  • 3 3
No, don't be silly. The sport will always carry on growing and developing - its driven by the top riders (male or female). Getting more women into mountain biking is good for the industry so they can make more money...grow up!

So many dudes butt hurt that they don't have their own day to shred. The video was definitely lacking in the riding to talking ratio but still rad.
  • 1 1
I don't see why not have a women's A line. If women want a women's only day, fine with me. Also, if it helps get more folks out on the trails then Bonesaw. I suppose I'd get rid of it if many women didn't like it. I just don't get to decide.

Equal treatment or Treatment based on Merit. Pick one

  • 1 0
Lol the truth is triggering to reality-deniers.. Even the people in the video acknowledge the general gender difference in speed.

Saying women are slower than men in general is not sexist because it is based on facts/reality.

Having a "Women Only Event" is sexist because it literally discriminates based on one's sex and sex only.
