@ibeaver: I met him and wouldn't call him a dikhead, there's definitely a good dude inside of him, so I'd call him a "Rolling stone" Having said that I would NOT liketo have him as my neighbor
@Otago: I purposefully didn't mention Eddie... that dude is a mess... saw him once along with Vanzacs and holy damn... keep these people away from me please. This is the exact kind of people who should never touch alcohol, they get drunk with two fkng beers and start wrecking havoc. Smoke as much weed as you want, you probably should... just stay away from booze
30", yes für sure! But we'll have to wait until everyone's gotten himself a 29er, then the obvious switch to a different wheel size (regardless of the size) really makes $en$e...
Yeah I was thinking it could just be the best of both worlds just like moto. Good traction up front for roots, rocks, ruts and holes but still good acceleration and handling at the back.
I just can't appreciate Minnaar's vibe more. The guy is pinned on track and so cruisey everywhere else. Gotta love talented guys that don't take themselves too seriously.
Take the time to get to know some South Africans and you will find that many are like that - dead pan, straight bat retorts and a a very very dry sense of humour. Minaar is a class act.
Im wary of making something of nothing when largely the haters seem to have chilled on the 29er issue...but I feel like there's still a lot of animosity toward the big wheels. I know a lot of the riders are just having a laugh and poking fun but I feel like behind the laughter the "29ers are gay" thing still won't die. It's one thing coming from the keyboard warriors but it's really disappointing to see it from the pros. Hopefully the syndicate trio are the guys to finally slay the dragon, I just hope they don't take the whole podium in case it comes back stronger than ever. Putting all that aside this is gonna be a really interesting weekend of racing! Can't wait to see the 'it's only practice' times today
The times will tell. If 29ers are truely faster (which they are) then everyone will be frantically trying to fit them into their frame or at least putting a 49 up front... (tough luck for guys on Rockshox)
Well played Santa Cruz / Greg / Jason / Fox for putting their balls on the line and giving it a go. Also props to Chris Porter as I am sure he has helped getting the 49 out.
@fartymarty: that's an interesting point you raise dude...CP has been quite outspoken about the disadvantages of big wheels and I don't remember ever hearing him say anything good about em. But at the same time he's a firm believer of 'the clocks don't lie' so I guess he's already had a nice slice of humble pie? I don't know the guy, I just read and watch anything with him involved so maybe I got the wrong end of the stick but if he was involved in the development I wonder if there was any conflict of interest? Probably not cus he's a professional but I wonder what he thinks of it all?
@ThomDawson: This used to be the case but reading on the Geometron thread on mtbr the Mojo guys have been testing 29F 275R on G16s with 40s up front at 180mm with good results. I think he was originally very anti 29ers (and probably 275 for that matter) but "the clocks don't lie".
@Travel66: yeah but the comments I'd read from CP on it have the impression he was reluctant! From those same comments I gathered he didn't even want it to be 27.5" but "you can't get the tyres" or some other crap lol
@fartymarty: CP must be listening and downvoting my comments :°D I might just have to give that thread a peep, very much interested in geo...I've recently turned away from the far out bikes in favour of a more moderate approach but I'm always interested when people try things that haven't been done before etc which is why I've tended to follow CP's comments etc.
@ThomDawson: I'm also interested to see how far it all goes. For me the limit must be MX bikes which are about 62-63HA and 1500WB. I don't think we will get this long but 1400WB seems a reasonable limit for taller guys. I'm also a fan of "outside the box" thinking and pushing / establishing the limits.
I don't know, his humor is lost on me. I'd prefer yippie bringing some good times as opposed to sarcasm and snarky. He comes off demeaning to some riders to me. Now let me preface by saying he is stupid fast on a bike but the commentating game is something I personally am not digging.
Totally lost on you. He's their completion, not a reporter. The interviews are to be taken as Wyn trying to get on the nerves of his competition. It's all in good fun.
Santa Cruz please make a 49er edition V10. Red n Gold paint in tribute to SF/NorCal's 49er heritage. Would be sickest bike out there indefinitely. Maybe Sourdough Sam on the headtube. Thank me later. Fox I'll count you in on this too. You already have the gold stancions to match. Please please please!
I'm glad that he still puts out these videos, he's the only one taking the piss and trying to make it enjoyable.
Fingers crossed for a podium @wynmasters
Wouldn't want his brother either: www.scene.co.nz/queenstown-news/fernhill-party-house-tenants-face-the-axe
