YT Announces New 2019 Jeffsy

Following their video yesterday, the Mk2 YT Jeffsy has been revealed. We've had some time on the new bike and will post a First Ride soon, but for now, here are all the details to pore over. As you might have guessed from the video, it's not a complete overhaul, more a refinement of a massively popular bike.

The 29-inch version of the bike gets given another 10mm of travel to boost it up to 150mm for the CF Pro Race version while the 27.5-inch version remains at the same level. These numbers are no strangers to the EWS so this looks to be a more aggressive trail bike than the original. It does have us thinking there's a big gap between at the lower end of YT's range now, could something fill the short travel void in the future?

Suspension
YT Jeffsy

Intended use: Trail
Travel: 29" 150/150mm, or 140/140mm // 27.5" 160/160mm, or 150/150mm
Suspension: Virtual Four Link
Wheel size: 29" or 27.5"
Frame construction: Carbon or aluminum
Sizes: S, M, L, XL, XXL
Pricing: $2,299.00 - $5,699.00 USD
yt-industries.com

Across both wheel sizes, YT have adjusted the kinematics and refined their V4L (Virtual Four Link) suspension system. They say their aim was to improve pedalling, so anti-squat has been increased in tandem with a steeper seat angle. The suspension curve has been flattened, and the bikes now have metric shocks.

photo

bigquotesFor an even better riding experience, we have refined our award-winning V4L suspension technology. JEFFSY is very sensitive off the top, with good mid-stroke support and plenty of end-stroke progressivity and an overall poppy character, which gives you a feeling of security when taking on rough terrain and big jumps. The generous amount of anti-squat prevents unwanted suspension movement – the result is outstanding climbing efficiency with neutral suspension behavior.YT Industries

Geometry and Sizing
In terms of geometry, it's a case of death by a thousand papercuts as revisions have been made all over to improve the bike across both wheel sizes. It seems like the 27.5 inch bike has been tweaked while the 29-inch version has some more serious overhauls. We've already mentioned the seat angle that has been steepened but both bikes also get longer reaches, slacker head angles and lower seat tubes. There's an integrated flip chip to mess with the bike’s geometry a bit—but of likely most will run it in the low position to slacken the head angle and lower the BB for fast and rough terrain. The standover has been lowered and a chunkier headtube is said to increase stiffness.

The Jeffsy gets an added XXL size for this edition. The XL and XXL bikes will have longer chainstays than the rest of the range to keep their balance.

Geometry 27.5"

Build
There are some other changes to note here as well. The Jeffsy gets the same single-sided access bearing system as the new Tues, and there has also been a refit of the cable clamps and cable plugs. The frame will be protected by an integrated plate on the downtube and you should get less wear as there are fewer mud pockets. Finally there's a Fidlock magnetic bottle holder that gives you an extra 100ml of hydration on the frame over the old model.

YT offers four spec levels of Jeffsy in each wheel size, three carbon (CF Pro Race, CF Pro, CF Comp) and one aluminium (Base). The CF Pro Race versions of the bikes have the extra 10mm of travel and the highest spec levels. The only aluminium model of each bike is the Base level. As announced earlier this week, Base level spec YTs offer an entry point into the YT line with a functional and easy to tune spec on an alloy frame.

All the jokes aside...this is a well done bike. Longer chainstays on XL and XXL sizes is really smart and cool to see brands finally doing this. The numbers have been updated to be more 'modern' but not over the top. waterbottle thing...still not sure why this is such a big deal, but they have their mini one I think you can put on there. Overall really nice looking bike and worth considering if you're looking for a solid trail bike. I'd argue renders the Capra sort of useless...but what do I know.
  • 14 1
Definitely a solid bike for most people... The GEO numbers are virtually identical to the ripmo...
  • 13 6
@dhx42: Yup...and the CF Pro race...with the exception of the drivetrain is an amazing build. Put Eagle on it and the thing is pretty much perfect spec.
  • 11 1
Offering two chainstay lengths is a huge deal. That's awesome.
  • 14 0
I would disagree with your point about the capra. While the jeffsy is more capable now than ever, so is the capra. It is now truly like a mini dh with dh casing tires and a spec that matches.
  • 9 1
@MikeyMT RE: Capra useless -I wouldn't DH race on a Jeffsy but I have many times on a Capra so there's that.

@endlessblockades: if you raced DH on a Capra, it wasnt a proper DH course...Love the Capra and its a burly trail bike but it aint no DH bike.
  • 21 5
Norco's been changing the frames for different sizes for a while dude
  • 34 2
@tuumbaq: I never said it was a DH bike - I said I personally would, and have, raced DH on a Capra but wouldn't on a Jeffsy to point out why I feel the Capra hasn't been rendered 'useless' by the Jeffsy. Mammoth, Northstar, and Bootleg Canyon have 'proper' DH terrain BTW. As proper as this old man needs.
  • 16 2
Norco has been doing this for years.. glad to see more designers smartening up as well!
  • 14 2
@tuumbaq: There's not many tracks you can't get down swiftly on a 170mm travel 29er

@Jackson900: Fair enough. But a mini DH bike IMO is useless...its not good at trail or DH riding. Get a trail bike and a DH bike and you have the right tool for the job in each instance. If you're a one bike only person I see the Capra as a viable choice...beyond that its overkill for trails, and lack luster for Dh...probably solid for a park bike but 180mm is a LOT to pedal.
  • 14 0
Capra 29 is a 170 f/r bike and 180 in the 27.5 size. It can also take a triple clamp fork. I run mine at proper DH parks like Trestle and Keystone and the only thing holding me back are my skills.
  • 38 2
I had a 2018 Capra Pro race and while the bike was nice to ride, I gotta say that the customer service was extremely frustrating. These direct to consumer brands do make a lot of sense and when it comes to bike/$, look no further. HOWEVER, customer support is vital with these business models and I can say from experience that YT needs to ensure the market that they have made significant improvements in that department.

Every email or phone number you find on the YT website goes to one guy's phone and while he's a nice guy and can be helpful, he's completely overwhelmed. YT needs to double or triple down on their customer support staff, badly. I think the product quality is acceptable but with no brick and mortar to stand behind their products, customer support MUST be there.

Just a word of caution to potential buyers...

 @kudikidd29: Re: Offering.
Whatever. Frame only is over $3K. $5,600 for the base build. And people bitch about YT availability. Until they increase production, it will always be in short supply due to the overwhelming value.
  • 12 1
@icdesign: Yep, Norco is great. Innovative but quiet and not overly flashy, marketing-wise. Maybe that needs to change, but it's also part of their appeal.

So if you actually ride your bike more than on the weekends you will know why a water bottle is so important. To carry your water on your back or hips, to keep these contraptions clean, to prepare and wear these 3 to 5 or more days a week is a nusance. So anyone that rides often wants the ease of filling up and throwing a water bottle on thier bike for an average ride. I only wear my water for large unassisted Enduro or when me and my buddies decide to go out for the whole day into the woods.
  • 3 0
@Poulsbojohnny: Oh I totally agree. I'd much rather pay for a Jeffsy (or two) than the Offering with very similar numbers.
  • 1 3
@dhx42: Jeffsy more longuer at reach and WB. Ripmo uses less offset on the fork, then the HA feels like 65 and also reduces WB
  • 6 0
 @tuumbaq:

Sam Hill raced a one of the WC on a NukeProof single crown last year and got like 7th. ????

@wtmorgan1: Yeah, the 2019 Lyrik is a sick fork.
  • 7 1
@H3RESQ: Is almost as if not everyone is exactly like you and feels different about certain things. Crazy how the world works that way. And by contraptions you mean bladders...? Super hard to fill those up... :eyeroll:
  • 1 0
@Poulsbojohnny: pretty sure he/she was simply saying evil has similiar geo
  • 3 1
@MikeyMT: Was just explaining why its a "big deal" to some. And yes I mean bladders, and how in hip pack and back packs they flop around. I myself use a Lycra top that holds a bladder so its tight to my back and doesn't move around, but again only on lengthy days out when my bottle isn't enough.
To each thier own for sure, but its why many expect bottle cage mounts on anything but a DH bike.
  • 2 0
@H3RESQ: Fair enough. I have a bottle and do use it. Last bike didn't have it. I ride with a little Ergon pack either way.
  • 3 0
@ali-chapple: Assuming you mean chain stay length, but aside from Norco, not a lot of brands are approaching that topic. That means it's a reasonably big deal for another huge producer to do it.
  • 5 0
@MRwillP: agreed. JM needs some support to improve Canada's customer service. There's no way one person can do it all.
  • 2 1
@MRwillP: Well written! Signed a YT Capra Owner.
  • 1 0
Yea, as an owner of an old capra mk1, I found the capra mk2 (pro race 180/180mm) too much bike to peddle about, so inefficent - its almost a dh bike.

To me it looks like the fox 36 equiped 160mm pro race jeffsy 27.5 is a good replacement of the original capra (once fork bumped up to 170)

I’m more tempted by a 140mm 29er though - the original was such a short bike with a tall seat tube. Looks like YT is now seriously on fire.

But....

Anyone else think it looks like a propaine hugene?!?!?
  • 1 0
@dhx42: I noticed the same thing, except for the shorter top tube.
  • 1 0
@alexsin: and look at that stack!

  • 1 0
@jamesbrant: hehe you must know me.
  • 2 0
The Capra is MUCH more of a big mountain Enduro race/bike park/shuttle/gravity trail machine. The Jeffsey is a technical trail bike or a weight weenie enduro race bike (no offense intended).
  • 2 1
@MRwillP: and a word of caution to YT Industries. Because you are correct...any direct marketing sales model would do well to invest in customer service (manuals, how to videos, maintenance related discussion forums, excellent warranty, a well staffed customer service team, etc....etc....).
  • 2 1
@gdharries: Can't see buying another brand after having one.
  • 2 2
@mountaincross: And to have units in stock as well as frame only options for those that don't need complete builds!
  • 2 0
@H3RESQ: just personal preference mate, that’s all. I prefer a pack, and use it often enough that cleaning isn’t a nuisance at all, some prefer a bottle... ain’t no thang! Just ride.

Cove Bikes already used longer chainstays for bigger sizes within their first gen shocker frames around ~2006
  • 3 0
@tom666: fair comment, but my short wheel Base 27.5 150mm intense carbine is faster down really tight, steep, twisty, technical tracks like water world up at golfie in Innerleithen. My nukeproof mega 290 factory is a monster truck down the fast rocky stuff and I was fastest of the day on most tracks in morzine / les gets last summer on that machine. Modern 29er enduro bikes are faster than 26 dh bikes of old based on the strava data I have recorded

@H3RESQ: stick it in the freezer after you ride and you don't have to clean it.
  • 2 0
@MRwillP: My experience was totally different. My Tues had SRAM Code R brakes that were under some type of recall. A local shop replaced the parts, and YT had me send them the receipt and they sent me back a check to cover the labor.

I was pleasantly surprised by the way they handled the entire situation. So much so that I'm looking at a Jeffsey/Capra for a trail bike.
  • 1 0
@dhx42: Yep, only thing that sticks out is the Ripmo's seat tube is for sure shorter. I'm 6' on a L and can run a 225mm dropper if that even existed, its bonkers!

  • 2 0
@shredb4dead: Part of the savings of a direct to consumer brand is passing the cost of the build kit directly to the consumer, rather than marking it up 60% then selling. That is why there is no frame only option, you'd be paying the same price as any other frame set...
  • 1 2
@RideTahoe707: For me buying a YT would not be about saving money. It would be about getting a frameset I like with the geo and travel I want. I don't care if the parts guys don't sell enough parts if not specing their goods on full builds. A La Carte all the things. Looks like Commencel or bike shop brand framesets it is.

Wow! Looks like great bike with unbeatable value for money ratio…
I did quick math and checked the prices of top carbon 29ers with top suspension and carbon rims to understand what’s the ratio vs. price of Jeffsy 29 ProRace in Czech Republic / Europe. Of course this is just huge simplification as there are many more aspects which I didn’t reflect. Also specifications vary in many cases. But it’s still hard to believe that you can get two pieces of YT or one from other brands for the same price…
YT Jeffsy 29 Pro Race / Santa Cruz HIGHTOWER LT CC XTR 51%
YT Jeffsy 29 Pro Race / Ibis RipMo XX1 EAGLE 54%
YT Jeffsy 29 Pro Race / Yetti SB 130 XX1 47%
YT Jeffsy 29 Pro Race / Trek Fuel EX 9.9 29 63%
YT Jeffsy 29 Pro Race / Specialized S-Works Stumpjumper 56%
YT Jeffsy 29 Pro Race / Scott Genius 900 Ultimate 49%
YT Jeffsy 29 Pro Race / Giant TRANCE ADVANCED PRO 29 0 70%
YT Jeffsy 29 Pro Race / Evil Offering X01 66%
YT Jeffsy 29 Pro Race / Propain Hugene Highend 82%

Well done YT!!! Can’t wait for full review of Jeffsy!

You should work on your math. Propain Hugne HUGNE is 6470 euro and the Jeffsy pro race is 5300. That's 22%. And the Propain has 12 speed xx1 eagle VS Shimano 11 speed on the Jeffsy. And the hugne has Reynolds black label wheels

You missed out 2 bikes from Cube:
YT Jeffsy 29 Pro Race / Cube Stereo 150 TM 29 120% (£4000 vs £4800)
YT Jeffsy 27 Pro Race / Cube Stereo 140 TM 275 137% (£3500 vs £4800).

Both come with fox Grip2 36 factory, DPX2 factory, transfer factory dropper, 1600-1700g alloy wheelset, GX eagle, carbon cranks/handlebar, code R brakes.

And you can buy them from a shop. Geometry on the 140 27.5 is nearly identical to the Canyon Spectral.

Must be the huge buying power they have, there's no other bikes with the same spec for the price.

I'm tempted by the Jeffsy but it's £1300 more than the 140 and that's before a fairly easy to get 10% discount which makes the stereo 140 £3150.

 @tallpaul-s:

is it possible to sell cube frame? is it possible to get more than 350EUROs with the ebay?
  • 1 0
@nagan: Don't see why not - it's a carbon front end, alloy rear so should fetch decent money! I'm guessing you're added up the cost of all the parts and realised, like me, that essentially you're getting the frame for free?

$3500usd for the cheaper carbon 29er. Makes no sense with that cheap shock, dropper, guide r brakes (ffs!) and 11 speed drivetrain. Think I’d rather spend the $150 extra (can’t believe I’m going to say this) and buy a alloy Stumpjumper EVO 29, with a warranty I can use at the local shop not 10 minutes down the road.

yeah, and guess what happens when you break your specialized frame, or dropper, or fox fork or do any kind of significant damage: THEY SEND IT BACK TO THE MANUFACTURE AND YOU WAIT....just like the dude that saved thousands and got a YT.

There's no service advantage going through the LBS when the LBS never stocks high end components and aren't qualified to handle warranty claims on suspension. You're going to have to handle that through dirtlabs or fox/rockshox.

again, what good is buying from the LBS and paying a %60 markup when it doesnt get you back on your bike any faster???

@Honduh2000: It is all about the bleed for any brake performance. SRAM brakes are probably the hardest to bleed but once you have it down and know some of the tricks they are great. It comes more down to the feel of the brakes for what you like.
  • 1 2
@tacklingdummy: good bleed, new pads, perfectly clean caliper with spotless pistons and alignment. Then it's good for a couple rides, or one mud puddle.
  • 1 0
@Honduh2000: Agree. Have Guide R's on 2 different bikes and have had no issues in over a year. My '17 Tues came with Guide R's as well, and other than having them replace first thing due to a recall, I've had no issues with them either.
  • 1 0
@yzedf: Then your bleed has bubbles. I have had Guides RSCs work for a couple years great without having to re-bleed again and swapped out pads a few times. I just bled them once when I first got them to shorten the cables and no bleeding since. I have had Avid and SRAM brakes forever. Started with Avid Juicy 7s, Elixirs, X0, Guides. All great.
  • 1 0
@tacklingdummy: What does a dirty/muddy caliper have to do with how well the bleed was done?
  • 1 0
@yzedf: Because you said it is only good for a couple of rides. I never had problem with mud or water with those brakes. There is a lot of tricks that help with getting a good bleed with SRAM brakes.
  • 1 0
@tacklingdummy: neither set I own has an issue with the bleed. Both sets have issues with pistons sticking while dirty. One had a bad lever assembly that was rebuilt once and then replaced later. Unfortunately I really like how they feel when they are working properly so I deal with all the bs. I've also got two pairs of slx (new and previous gen) that both work well but don't feel as good at the lever. I wish I could get something like my old Trail XO brakes, those were amazing aside from the fragile carbon levers on rocks.

Something the article failed to point out is that the Pro Race version now comes with a Fox 36 vs last years Fox 34.
  • 9 1
Which is a big deal. I have a 17 Pro Race and the 34s bumped up to 160 make it fairly unstable. Great move.
  • 8 1
Huge upgrade... honestly I don't see the point of the 34 other than the step cast version for people trying to build really light short travel trail bikes/burly XC "downcountry"... 34 on a 150-160mm bike never made any sense, the weight savings are insignificant for the superior feel and damper on the 36.

Disappointed they didn't spec 36 Performance Elite GRIP2 on the CF Pro though.
  • 1 0
@jamesdunford: It would be interesting if you switched to a 160 mm 36 to see how much difference you notice. For the 17 Jeffsy, do you recommend bumping to 160 mm or leaving 34s at 150 mm?
  • 2 2
Ya no grip2 on top spec model is a bummer
  • 4 0
@gramboh: I'm pretty sure it's got a GRIP2. The spec on the website just says Fox Factory 36 without mentioning the damper at all. But the pictures all show a GRIP2 fork as far as I can tell.

@jamesdunford: Wait, you answered my question with 'definitely'. Did you mean to say that it makes no sense to have it at 150?
  • 1 0
@cedrico: Nope, 160. I need to change it to 150.
  • 1 0
@jamesdunford: Ah, ok. I guess I'll keep mine at 150.
  • 19 2
The new CF model and it’s prices look great, but really disappointed in how they decided to scrap the aluminum models. Obviously keeping the old frame is better than not having any aluminum models at all, but seems like a really lazy choice. I want to know more about why they decided to do this, given that it probably wasn’t tech/ material constraints because they had no trouble updating the Capras aluminum frame last year.
  • 7 0
I'm with you. I'd prefer aluminum for a number of reasons, the main one being cost/benefit ratio. This seems to be the norm in the industry now, Kona still offers the Process SE with the aluminum frame from the last gen.

  • 1 0
If they'd make that with similar spec, similar geo and similar weight - if it pedals well at 150 why not have the extra travel? I'd rather they make a hardtail.
  • 8 2
$5500 is a pretty sweet deal for that spec. and $3000+ for lower end bike of this caliber is pretty sweet... not that they are even lower end.

I'm a yeti guy right now, but why the hell are they $8000+? same specs for the most part, but it's like the frame is $5500 bucks when you get the upper end bike, just unrealistic... I may go this route next... $5k for a bike with great specs is fair enough deal to me and they look awesome.

I like the jeffsy geo, but wish the head tube was a bit slacker than 66.5 or 66... The capra is great but man that's a lot of travel. listen to me bitch. YT, I like the bikes a lot.

flag deadtime (Jan 11, 2019 at 10:51) (Below Threshold)
I have a feeling the bike pictured, with Factory suspension and Kashima everything is not the $5700 model. That’s usually on bikes well in the 6’s, but good for YT if they put factory at such a strong price.
  • 6 0
@deadtime: it is that bike, their top tier one.
  • 7 0
@deadtime: Ya, I believe they are that price, and that spec... I was checking out a 27.5 capra ont here... CF Pro Race...

sheesh, X2 shock, XTR shifting, Carbon rims, fox 36 kashima everything, carbon cranks, renthal cockpit... crazy specs really good.
us.yt-industries.com/shopware.php?sViewport=detail&sArticle=2092&sCategory=260

$5500 bucks... Point is, I could buy this complete build AND a yeti $3800 SB150 frame for what Yeti is selling their top of the line bike for.... Doesn't add up.

Don't get me wrong, I love my SB6, but after blowing my frame and no support from them, I am going this route next.
  • 2 2
 @level4designs: xtr 11 speed, not 12
  • 4 0
@shaked: who cares.... xtr 11 or 12 speed really... are you saying that is why a Yeti SB150 or SB6 goes for $9500...

sheesh, I'll take YT and 5 sets of XTR Groups for the future. All I'm saying is a Yeti at $9500, can't tell me the frame is $3800 and the group set is almost worth almost $6000.
  • 1 2
@level4designs: YT has a great value. They just missed something with the spec when they put "old" drivetrain. But, yes, great value
  • 1 0
exactly... 66 deg or even 65.5 would have been perfect.
  • 1 0
@kyle618: I kind of like the idea of a jeffsy, but throw a 170 fork on it...
  • 6 0
This looks like a great bike with solid specs, but in terms of value for money other non-direct companies are catching up.
The top of the range bike costs 5300€, which is 300€ less than the orbea Rallon I just ordered from my local dealer (albeit I am in Spain) with custom specs and color (similar build kit than the Jeffsy but with a Fox X2 out back). Leaving out the boutique brands with silly price tags you can get a solid bike from your bike shop now a days for a price that s not too far from the direct brands...
  • 1 1
Does it have carbon wheels, bars and the rest?
Or you just changed the shox?
  • 6 0
YT, I want to buy your bikes, but please answer me the following:
1. Why not have 2, maybe 3 paint schemes at most, that way one doesn't find that the model spec they want is out of stock

2. Why have you chosen to not upgrade the Aluminum model. You're missing out on a segment of riders who would buy the new model in aluminum, but will now look elsewhere, as you're selling a frame whose geometry is now stale.
  • 8 0
This bike looks like a winner...nice job YT
  • 5 0
Beautiful looking bike! The CF Pro 29er is what I’d go for if I was to choose a model. 150mm rear with a 160mm front (increase the travel up 10mm from stock) would make it a beast on the downs!!!!
  • 1 0
There isn‘t. At least not if you compare the CF pro with the race. The 160mm 36 and the 150mm Pike have an almost similar axle to crown (actually I think the 36 is a little bit shorter despite 10mm more travel).
  • 1 0
I've just bought one with the intention to bump it up to 160mm. Is it easy to do?
  • 1 0
@skill7: it is very easy to bump up the travel. All you need to do is buy new air shafts in a longer length. Takes less then 30 min to drop your lowers, swap the shafts and lube it all up. People raise and lower their forks all the time to meet their needs @Paradan09
  • 2 0
That is what everyone wants, but by having all lower end models at 10mm less, they are kind of driving people to seek that extra travel in another bike if they don't have $5700.
  • 1 0
@Rubberelli: all you have to do to change the travel on the lower end bikes is put on a longer stroke metric shock and extend the fork, it’s really a simple concept and doesn’t cost too much money
  • 2 0
@TheSlayer99: You would pay $500 For a shock and $1k for a 36 or Lyrik if that's the suspension you want. Why wouldn't someone just buy a lower spec Troy or something in the first place?
  • 4 0
Quite the difference in components from last years models for $400 more. Glad I got Last years cf pro. Here the spec difference:

Guide RSC vs. Guide RS
Race Face Next R carbon cranks vs. SRAM GX Eagle
Next R handlebar vs turbine bar
Suspension is preference but I prefer fox..
Fox transfer is better than the e13 dropper Imo. Have heard a number of complains about the e13 dropper.
2018 jeffsy was over half a pound lighter too.
  • 7 0
Why do colour options by spec? This must make it harder to stock.

  • 6 0

  • 6 0
Quick on the comment, but slow to get the bike
  • 2 0
He doth comment quick, he removest the likelihood of reciept
  • 5 3
I expect to see a lot of 160mm conversions on that Fox 36. Just like your seeing with the Offering. Biggest geo surprise to me is the top tube. Pretty short. It's a measurement I care about cause sometimes, believe it or not, even in CO, im not climbing or descending - i'm pedaling along and don't want to feel "pinched". Overall, sweet whip with nice improvements. Love the silver/teal.
  • 7 4
Go by Reach not actual TT. TT length is slightly irrelevant now that we're given an actual objective number for fitting purposes. This bad boy is one of the longest reach/steeper SA machines available. Keep Ripping!
  • 8 0
However,.. Being that you're from CO, We'd all expect you to get Guerilla's version of this bike. Made in CO!!!
  • 3 4
@dietcoors top tube length is irrevelant now a days just go by reach. and account head angle and seat angle to see the traits of the bike as well as stack to see how far you need to raise or lower the handlebar.
  • 10 1
Gotta still use ETT to measure fit, as the seat angle moved forward to compensate for the longer reach. If all you looked at was reach and that seat angle was at 60 degrees, the bike would probably not fit you...
  • 12 0
@Thustlewhumber: agree. @5poundplumbbob @slipnjloc, Reach is irrelevant if you're seated, ETT is irrelevant if you're standing. I do both...
  • 3 0
@dietcoors: @Thustlewhumber: totally agree - look at the 2 numbers in combo. My recent bikes have the same ETT length but much longer reach and steeper SA.
  • 4 1
@5poundplumbbob: TT is not irrelevant. It is totally relevant in climbing/pedaling position. Reach is relevant in descending position.
  • 2 0
The somewhat saving grace to TT Length is that you can simply slide the seat backwards to get more room (like 10-15mm). Now, if you are a real tall guy on an XL, you might be getting closer to the rear axle...tho YT has nicely put on longer chainstays for L and XL to keep it balanced and the front wheel down. I'm 6-4 and SUPER sensitive to this but something tells me it might be non-issue with some minor bike setup.
  • 1 3
@tacklingdummy: I'll take the hit on the climbs thanks. Seated power output is uneffected by torso angle.
  • 3 0
@jclnv: You must be riding pretty flat climbs then. On steeper climbs, torso angle directly affects ability to keep the front tire planted and maintain good traction to both tires.
  • 1 4
@tacklingdummy: Lower your bars and bend your elbows!
  • 1 0
@jclnv: dropping my bars leaves me feeling a bit uncomfortable on the downs tho (I'm 6-4). I think this is where the steeper STA comes in as it doesn't have as big of a compromise
  • 1 1
@Svinyard: Everything is a compromise. Steep SA bikes climb significantly better regardless of TT length/torso angle for me.
  • 2 0
Its quite simple - redesign ALU Jeffsy 27 the same way as Capra ALU 2019 and put the same build kit as CF PRO.

Until then i'm keeping the money, last year alu frame version with entry NX is not good enough. You should learn from how quick you sold out "limited" high spec ALU a month or two ago....
  • 4 1
Hey Pink Bike, can you confirm that the Alum frames were NOT updated and are staying the same but with new paint? I'm 99% sure by the pics that its not the same geo as the new CF Jeffsy.
  • 3 4
AL frame is still 2017 model so it's a bullsh.. 2019 model. New paint and that's about it....oh NX12 Eagle but 2017 frame. So you need to pay 3300€ to get a real 2019 model thats kinda pricey for direct sales brand dont U think???? YT why are U doing this sh..????
  • 3 2
@Juricakocina: Yeah I feel like whiffing on the Alum and upping their prices has kind of eroded their position. Its not the really nice deal it used to be. I'm looking for a trail bike for a buddy and while this is a nice carbon option, its not spectacular considering you can get 20-30% off last years bike. Heck even a Yeti 4.5 is close in price to this now. (old school geo tho). I still really like what they've done for the bike tho. Its a sweet option.
  • 2 1
@Svinyard: Yeah for sure! Like they are saying We got a new model but you'll have to pay for it! And for those who can't afford it you'll be fine with with an older frame..... Let me quote YT: "Selling direct – ditching the middlemen – was the way. It allowed us to create cutting-edge bikes with impressive kit at truly amazing prices by passing on savings directly to you, the customer." truly amazing prices... Yeah right (AL model)
  • 1 1
Further proof is that they have Aluminum builds ready to ship - but carbon bikes won’t ship until May.
  • 6 1
Am I mistaken or are the alloy 2019 models the same as 2018?
  • 10 0
I was just on their site. Seems the alloy bikes did not receive the redesign. Pretty disappointed about that.
  • 2 0
Doesn't look like they fully updated the Canadian site yet... The new AL model is that dark blue / white, which isn't showing yet...
  • 3 0
One base spec al model with the old frame, on both wheelsizes. Nothing between 2300 € and 3300 €. I'm glad I bought the "old" 27.
  • 4 0
@leftyMTL: New colors are showing on the US site and it is the same frame as last year, just with the new colors.
  • 1 0
@rkillianjr46: But a lower price tag compared to the 18 years.
  • 1 1
I really Hope this doesn't become the norm...no bueno YT.
  • 3 1
Talking of balance, how about even taller headtubes on the xl xxl bike, 125 mm is brave and low, so by the time you pack up the stem, you've lost some of that precious reach .
  • 5 4
Maybe I'm getting old and cranky but I have been riding for 25 years but it seems like people have become sheep. It has to be longer, lower and slacker. I need my bike to be able to ride like I'm DH pro even though I'm scared to do a 3 foot drop.. Ride a bike that's fun for what your doing. Don't buy a plow for average riding cause that's what is the in thing. Everything is marketing now a days. I guarantee the old Jeffsy is way more fun to ride than the new. I own a trail and a DH sledge but the way .And I'm not a fossil ,both my bikes are newer.
  • 4 1
Eh, this bike isn't super long and the chainstays aren't super short. The BB drop is even less than 30mm and the freaking head angle is 67d. You are whining in the wrong bike thread dude. No offense.
  • 4 1
Everything that was criticized about last year's Jeffsy was updated/fixed. Well done YT! This bike is going to do really well.
  • 7 6
 Still pressfit. No thanks.
  • 4 0
 Still guide brakes..
  • 3 2
What's the tire clearance? Looks like they dropped the E13 drivetrain, which is a plus IMO.

If you look at the GX Eagle (Pro) build and compare to the Ripmo GX (for a few hundred $ more) you get Fox 36, DPX2, wider wheels and tires, DW-link, and dealer support. Now that initial hype for the Ripmo has cooled off a bit, you can find some discounts for it if you shop around.

This is great bike, but Ripmo still for the win.
  • 5 0
not sure where you're from the but the GX Ripmo is about $1000 more than the Jeffsey pro race up here
  • 3 0
@arrowheadrush: $4799 GX Ripmo here (many shops will match): www.competitivecyclist.com/ibis-ripmo-gx-eagle-complete-mountain-bike

vs. $4299 GX Jeffsy CF Pro

Again Ripmo IMO better components: Fox36, DPX2, wide rims, Maxxis tires, DW-link and dealer support for $500 more.

I hear you though. Canadian Expat now in the USA - being a consumer is just easier here. You just need Trump to get along better with Trudeau, and fix the weak CAD.
  • 2 0
@smoothmoose: That Ripmo is decent value but weird build.. Performance (basic level) 36/DPX2, Deore brakes (they work ok but way too cheap for a $4,800USD bike)... also I wouldn't say DW-Link is inherently better or more valuable than Horst-link, it's just a different design/feel.
  • 2 1
YT are really missing out on the short travel trail market, not that now it would be any cheaper than a bike from my LBS. The canyon neuron doesn’t have good geometry, the alloy versions don’t even have the same frame design as the carbon ones which don’t have good geometry to begin with, and it has an IS headset so you can’t throw an angleset headset on and make the head angle actually slack. And of course YT can’t do a build without specing sram eagle or any model of their trash brakes, so the cost is even higher due to needing to switch the drivetrain to something actually worth the money and brakes that actually have any sort of stopping power. Last years pro race cf builds were amazing with the exception of the sram brakes. I love the geometry of the new bikes, but the lackluster components and absence of shorter travel models are the only think that prevents me from buying a YT.
  • 2 0
I’m surprised they stuck with e thirteen wheels, everyone I know with 2017 or 18 jeffsys had shit luck with them. Other than that they love their bikes.
  • 3 3
....bike, geo and kit is great.....but why thay put that small ugly steep triangle btw seat tube and top tupe like this.....all curves and shapes on frame are nice smooth and stylish.....but this spot is really out from the design line....would be much better without that triang hole and a bit more smootly curved against top tube.....!!!!
  • 1 0
 Exactly, that triangle looks terrible...
  • 2 0
Every time I think they can't possibly make a bike look any better. And I'm proven wrong each time they bring out a new bike.
  • 1 1
I don’t get the price comparison thing.YT -> Consumer. Santa Cruz, Yeti, Ibis, etc. -> Distributor -> Dealer -> Consumer. It’s obvious there is several thousand difference . Nobody will do it for free. To be honest I am surprised how YT and especially Canyon can do it sooo cheap. YT says they have 100 employees and Canyon 800. This is a lot of salaries they need to pay every month. I bet they don’t make any money during the sale time. Also to compare it to Hightower or SB130 with complete 12 speed X01 or XTR doesn’t make sense when YT specs only 11 speed XTR derailleur / shifter combo but all other drivetrain components and wheels are some cheaper substitutes. If they would spec complete 12 speed XTR or X01 with even some decent alloy wheels instead the price would be easy few hundrets more.
  • 6 2
Gimme an extra 100ml of water bottle.
  • 1 0
Nice looking bike. Don't need a new bike, or even want a new bike (I love my Transition Patrol), but I'd really like to give one of these a try... A travelling demo fleet would be pretty swell.
  • 2 2
Anyone notice the 29er has shorter offset forks (42/44mm vs traditional 51mm) while the 27.5 has the typical 44/46mm offset instead of the shorter 37-39mm? Kind of odd... Was hoping they would do short offset and slacken the HTA to 64.5/65 on the Pro Race and 65/65.5 on the normal builds.
  • 1 0
Awesome bike, but agree would have preferred to see a slightly more slack HTA.
  • 1 0
I would like the Large or XL that they make. They only make one in each size then they are gone right? I have never seen more than one at the same spot so I just assume the "MOB" don't like eachother very much.
  • 2 0
What is the point here of the horizontal shock mount when a vertical mount would allow a NORMAL bottle in the triangle? It's a four bar. Can someone please explain?
  • 4 0
 Holy seat tube Batman!
  • 1 0
Is there a geometry difference with the extra 10mm on the Pro Race model? I would guess that they're would have to be, but where's the mention?
  • 3 0
Geo change is from 10mm more fork travel only, same frame. Rear travel is from a longer stroke shock but same eye to eye so static geo is the same.
  • 4 0
 hey waterboy, you suck
  • 2 0
I wish they had bumped the travel up to 150 on the lower specced models and not just the pro race model
  • 1 0
I really like the Pro Race 29 with the 36 and 150mm front and rear. But why is the Pro Race the only bike to get that amount of travel and a 36?

  • 3 4
Sexy bike! Nailed the geo minus seat tube, just a touch to steep for my liking.. Wish they'd adopt a different suspension platform, horst link is so damn blah, it keeps YT from separating themselves from the other shit ton of manufactures using it.
  • 2 3
I love the look of this bike but the recent stories about terrible customer service from YT has turned me off. Think I'll stick with Cannondale and my LBS. It looks great but until they get their customer service snafus worked out I think I'm out.

As a 6’5” rider I approve of this message.
  • 1 0
Except the for the short seat tube, I agree. I am running a 530mm seat tube right now and still have 280MM of seat post showing...so you take away 45mm from that and the seat post length starts getting ridiculous (325mm of seat post out of the frame). With the extreme dropped top tube of this frame that puts a TON of leverage on that seat mast...I see broken bikes in the future for the long-legged people out there like me.

I would also love to see what the Alu version looks like.
  • 1 2
