“...all of them”
BlaBlaEnduro
Barely in his 30’s still and with no tats, no race results, and a new baby and job this year, this guy is gonna struggle to get out in 2018. He’s set on continuing his dawn patrol assault on the local scene and is honing in on some PRs on some easy-ass (I mean sic AF) flow trails. When not getting bucked off line or casing jumps he takes long bathroom breaks to troll the bikerweb.
As for Giant, he was with them most of his entire career but that deal ended many years ago.
£1500 cost price to normal brand > £2250 to distributor > £3500-£3750 to brand.
£1500 cost price to YT > £2,750 to consumer. Bigger margins, more control, just harder to market.
Right, I’ll go back to refreshing the TUES Pro web page hoping the large comes back.
This kind of marketing and low prices are going to inevitably kill some bike shop brands.
1 BILLION Dollars.
Thanks man, this is gonna be fun.
That being said supporting a good handful of women riders is obviously the right thing to do, and for some reason when companies do the right thing it usually seems to work out for them in the long run. Funny that.
It seems logical that if sponsoring more women made more money for these companies than sponsoring men does, they would all be doing it a lot more.
Male or female, it doesn't matter. We are all human beings. The best human for the job should get the job. For example, I would love to see more males in bra model roles, but it turns out men aren't that good at wearing bras!
The funny thing is there's lots of evidence to support the idea that companies who make decisions based only on immediate financial returns tend not to be as successful in the long run as ones who set goals such as "supporting people who are great trying to do great things".
And if you are going to reply please don't take it off topic to a general discussion on political correctness.
I am not saying girls are all shit on bikes. I am not saying I am a better/faster/more deserving of sponsorship rider than any sponsored woman. I know they could beat me in a race. That's not the point. There are also hundreds if not thousands of men who could beat me in a race, who are also not sponsored.
My point is that sponsorship will come if you are awesome. And by that I mean awesome, period. Not just awesome compared to other people in your gender age and socioeconomic ethnic grouping.
We don't have gender classes for science, medicine, politics, business. Having them in sport is an admission that girls cannot compete, which is not true. Some of them can and do compete. I am stoked on that. Not because they're women, but because they are awesome, period.
Do you get it now? My point, I mean?
Crying about not enough girls on pro teams stinks of white knight syndrome. Don't belittle the achievements of those who have made it through blood, sweat and tears by suggesting pro contracts should be handed out on the basis of gender alone. Gender should not come into it. Gender classes are sexist, and there is no place for them in today's progressive society.
@jaame: Going out of your way to essentially demote women's progress in sports is petty lame. Justifying it with the financial bottom line shows a lack of humanity. If you really believe that then why don't you encourage them to dump their only female rider?
If YT wants to be a bro culture company that's certainly their choice.
As for tennis. Oh no. Biomechanical differences occur between everyone. Gender classes are still sexist. What they are doing is saying women are weaker than men, but there are a lot of women who are stronger than men, including me. I struggle to understand why we only need two groups. Why is it just male and female? Because it's not fair to make women compete against men. They wouldn't have a chance. I also would not have a chance. So what do I do? Try to lobby for another category for asthmatic short sighted men between the ages of 34 and 35? No, I just accept that I will never be a pro sportsman, even though it was my dream just like anyone else of any gender who didn't make the grade, and get on with my life.
Tennis should have dropped the gender classes and pooled the male and female competitions, with associated prize money, into one pot. All genders should compete in an open, winner takes all.
These days it's gender equality in name only. The only way to make sport fair for everyone is to have only one class.
I'm not sure how happy I would be if I finished 84th in a world cup downhill race and had to pay for my own fuel to drive home after washing my own bike, and someone who was slower than me was getting PAID because she happened to not have a penis. It's sexist!
Give the job to the best person for the job, not to someone "because we need MOAR GIRLZ"
There is no ground to be gained by name dropping or name calling.
I am resolutely opposed to any form of discrimination, be that positive or negative.
The only way to make life fair is to treat everyone as equals.
We do not achieve that goal by any means other than a pure meritocracy.
I am not bagging girls out. I think girls are awesome. They don't need me to tell them they are awesome.
Rather, I am bagging out people who have this incessant need to push the agenda of girls in professional sports, whether said girls deserve to be there or not.
That is all.
When I read this article, my first thought was that's great. Look at all those people who have got the job they want, living the dream riding bikes for a living. That is something I could never achieve, regardless of how hard I worked at it.
Unfortunately it seems some people can't be happy for them, because their feelings are primarily about how unfair it is that only one of them is a girl. It's tantamount to saying those sixteen other riders don't fully deserve their spots on the team. They are only there because they are male and YT is a bro life organisation, or something.
I guess what I'm saying is, why do people have to be so quick to complain about everything? Can't you just be happy for the ones of us who did make it? We're all humans, at the end of the day. Don't discriminate.
You don't have to agree with that, but it is a very different way of looking at the issue than your position. /imdone
German coast guard „what are you sinking about?“
At least now companies are releasing bikes and have stock available immediately. I used to be that they would pre announce and it would take months for the first people to get their hands on them.
Speaking of guys, glad they managed to slip one woman in there... sheesh.
On a final note: Go Aaron f*****g Gwin.
Not all from YT though.
Marty Mcfly's immortal words from the GFOAT never wrang truer
Reminds me, I actually met (here in Mexico) a person by the name of Usnavy (U.S. Navy).. seems they saw it on a cap or t-shirt and liked the sound of it...
i get that.
but id they chose to have a shop
(which they do )
you woukd think ot woukd be
1 open
2 not look like a failed buisness
commencial is a block away with a very nice shop with all there models on display ans a friendly staff to assist you
makes YT shop look even worse .
i woukd never spend money on a bike i couldn't see of feel in person .would you buy a car you didnt test drive ?
having a sweet team and great advertising is not enough for me to drink the cool aid . and run out and buy a bike online
personally i like my local shops
im not against dealer direct sales at all
but i live in arguably the best place on earth to ride .
if i was a manufacturer with a shop here i woukd make it pimp AF .
to better boost my sales
do you buy a bike based on what the internet says or the guys who ride them and pay for them outta there own pocket .
let people see and feel them and i bet they sell more bikes .
...until someone with fatter pockets wanted to sign him
