PRESS RELEASE: Zerode Bikes

We are very excited to inform you about our latest offering and the next step forward for the best possible riding experience, the Gates Carbon Drive System available for all Taniwha and Katipo platforms.

The Carbon Drive system replaces a standard chain and chainring systems, using a belt and specifically designed sprockets, that heightens the experience of riding a Zerode to new levels.

The belt itself is made from high modulus polymer, nylon and carbon fibre and requires no lube. It’s built to go the distance with testing showing the Carbon Drive belts will last more than twice the lifespan of a chain and will not stretch over time. The belts come with a 2 year warranty. The Carbon Drive system in conjunction with our frames literally redefines what it is like to ride a quiet bike. The low mass of the belt means there is no 'slap,' it’s just the sound of your tires and the dirt. Removing the metal on metal contact of a chain and chainring, the belt delivers unparalleled smoothness and also has consistent efficiency throughout its entire life, unlike a chain which efficiency degrades as it wears out. The patented CenterTrack and MudPort profiles or the Carbon Drive sprockets have been specifically designed to shed mud, dirt, snow and other debris. The belt is also much lighter than a chain and virtually impossible to derail.

The Carbon Drive is unaffected by mud and dirt. The system's efficiency does not degrade overtime unlike a chain.

Lighter, quieter and longer lasting than a conventional chain, the Gates Carbon Drive heightens the experience of riding a Zerode to new levels.

The Carbon Drive System will be available as a retrofittable kit to all existing Taniwha and Katipo and also as an option when you buy a frameset or complete bike. The Carbon Drive System requires a different tensioner and chainstay due to radius in which the belt can bend.

“Free yourself from oily, rusty chains, and join the Gates Carbon Drive revolution. Clean. Smooth. Strong. These are the advantages of the Gates Carbon Drive™ System. Our carbon reinforced belts last longer than chains, never need grease and are nearly maintenance-free. Say goodbye to high-maintenance bike chains. Say hello to simplicity and fun.

Created by Gates Corporation, a global leader in belt drive technologies, Gates Carbon Drive is the best high-mileage bicycle drive on the market.” - Gates

Yearly oil change, a carbon belt every couple of years, on a bike that absolutely kills. No brainer.

Zerode is innovating. This is ground breaking stuff. I hope the technology trickles down to the rest of the bike market and price goes down.

Ground Breaking?! Nicolai and Cavalerie have offered this setup for a few years now.

@sswann: Never heard of those brands, so not the most known companies in the US.

@tacklingdummy: Nicolai is a German brand together with geometron. Pretty much did most of the science for the "Longer, lower, slacke" movement, think of it as a German Yeti. Doesnt shift huge numbers but very influential.

Cool stuff. I wonder what's the efficiency of this belt setup compared to the chain setup.

We aren't sure of the exact numbers but by the feeling through your legs you cannot notice it.

@mikelevy, when are we seeing a review on one of these?

Wonder if the belt feels compliant when pedaling. I know chains are more efficient than belts...

I am ok for getting abused for this question, but is this a single speed?
