In 1953, Seattle artist Lewis Nasmyth was hired to design for a western-style gas station in Georgetown close to the heart of Seattle. Now turned into a park, the 44ft wide cowboy hat still stands, occasionally turned into a renegade half pipe. Steven Bafus wrangles out of the brim. Red Bull Illume top 250 finalist image from the 2013 image quest.
Love this shot Paris. IMO better than the Minnaar shot in POY, but what can you do. One of the best photos I've ever seen, was great in Illume, still great now.
I grew up a mile and a half away from the old "Hat & Boots" to the right of the hat were two giant cowboy boots that were restrooms, and the hat part of the gas station if I remember correctly.
