In August 1896, Skookum Jim and some mining buddies found gold just outside Dawson at Bonanza Creek, kicking off the Klondike Stampede. Dawson shot up quick as lightning, adding boardwalks, bar-rooms, bordellos and boarding houses almost overnight.
