This is for everyone who thinks a photographer is only as good as their equipment. Of all the MTB shooting I've done, World cup DH is the hardest. Almost all the elements that make up a good photo are out of your control; light, where you are allowed to stand, spectators, what the rider is going to do, etc. It's an exercise in quick and creative thinking, not pushing buttons on expensive gear. The riders aren't going to help you either, and while some are more naturally stylish than others, their job is to go fast not fit themselves nicely into the composition of your shot. No retakes, no second chances. Obviously equipment plays a role, but cameras are just tools for the job and the best one is always the one in your hand (or pocket).
